WOW!! you were in the SAME area that would experience the MAJOR landslide at Frazier siding on January 19, 2008. Amtrak just restored Coast Starlight service on this line yesterday May 6, 2008. I am very happy you recorded this video in 1994 during the SP days.
According to my timetable you were only about 4 miles away from the infamous Frazier siding.
These engines (Dash 8s and F40PH) were the primarly locomotives for trains like the coast starlight. before the P40 or the P42 took over. Today, the Dash 8s are the secondary locomotives while the P42s are primarly.

I have seen that exact snow shed on America By Rail, The Heartland. It was just coming somewhat close to the end of the movie.

Also. All the "Pepsi" Dash 8 are repainted to the "Diet Pespi" paint or the Phase V paint.
