  • wow that was awesome i could not believe it is fan film

  • Are you guys serious? this was cool but why are you guys talking shit about the real film? that movie was fuckin awsome, nobody wants to see another fail like Sin City. the only 2 movies that did justice to their comic were V for Vendetta and watchmen in my opinion.

  • What track was this from the SIN CITY soundtrack? Thanks.

  • The voice acting sucks

  • Bow wow wow wow wow wow wow wow (that is my eyes popping out)

  • Awesome !

  • great job!!

    Totally awesome

  • Pretty damn awesome. Consider me impressed.

  • OMG THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • wow this is great

the movie made is much shorter but this has style

its exactly like in the comic books

and i bet the music is from sin city

  • Well, that definitely was much more enjoyable than that _other_ movie...

  • this is fantastic, and you did this a while ago yet its really well done!

  • I like how Rorschach actually has the sort of voice a real person might have in this. It also makes sense for him to have New York accent.

  • this was wonderful. i love the film noir look. I also enjoy the fact that R sounds like the drinking out of cups guy.

  • I like this because it was made even before the film was. Awesome!

  • was that a grappling gun or a penis pump???

  • I was wondering about that too lol

  • How can you say that? Sterotype only likes the badass guy, Do you know the message Alan Moore was telling us in the book?

  • Could have slowed down with Rorschach's narrative in the beginning to add more effect, but it was still great. Love the dark tones.

The accent was surprising. Didn't picture Rorschach's voice like that but it was good. Sorta like a New Yorker-Tough Guy accent.

  • this was good i just thought you could have improved your rorschach voice alot.

  • That was really good.

  • Wow, this is similar to and idea I'm doing right now, never noticed this until now.

But I think this is really great! I love the style it's got, the music is very fitting, and the green/blue-screen work is outstanding!

  • WOW AWSOME job!!!! it was exactly like the comic!!!!! congratulations!!!

  • Well Done! Was it animated the full way through? Or did you animate the backgrounds and not the Actor? I'm curious.

  • This was pretty cool! Man, these film makers should put some hardcore fans in charge of movies about epic comic super heroes

  • Your work is awesome. I think the voice could have been a bit more gravelly cause all i could think of was Christopher Walken with this voice. But seriously. redo the entire movie man. Myself and friends believed the movie could have been way better than what they did.

  • awesome work. you said u used sin city production techniques but what did you do specifically? I'm interested to know how u created the backgrounds, as it was blue/green screened, and how u got the shadow to move on the pavement?

  • i'm also interested, could u give me some tips? it would really help. thanks

  • The backgrounds were illustrated or photographed then composited together. The shadows are transformed transparency of the green screened footage, basically the alpha channel from the key was used to create a black cut out of Rorschach, which then was made semi transparent. After that it was stretched to look like a shadow, and composited to fit it into the shot. These types of effects are easily done in software like Shake or Nuke, after effects would work too.

  • would this be easily accomplished by the chrome key from final cut express?

  • fu(c)k

  • That was sick.

  • I personally wasn't crazy about the music, but other than that, well done, man. Pretty cool.

  • Go to Vioku. com to watch the full movie

  • I'ld love to see what you could do with my other favourite Watchmen characters like Doctor Manhatten and Ozymandius. Especially Ozymandius because thats where the movie version dissapointed me most

  • It was abit confusing, but I think it was ok.

for those that haven't seen it yet, you can watch it on

    vioku. com

  • I agree. The graphic novel is meant to feel like a film noir. And this is the perfect music to capture that feel.

  • these effects look a hell of a;llot nicer than "The Spirit" and that was probly multi million dollar film. man was that awful. GreAT JOB!

  • i do really like this, but the music puts me off? for some reason i dont imagin the watchmen to have this kind of sound... i always thought it would sound slightly more like somthing out of blade runner?

  • this is amazing. what programs did you use?

  • I remember watching this so many times before the movie was announced!

  • Holy hell!!!!!!!!!!

This could pass as an official Watchmen movie! I like the live action against greenscreen, like Sin City and The Spirit mixed together with the Watchmen feel to it.

    Even a perfect Rorschach voice!

    I'm ranting now! Who cares?

IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE MORE OF THESE, YOU SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER MAKING SOME!

(maybe a whole film, or is that just wishful thinking on my part)

    I'll shut up now...

  • Looks likes more like the Frank Miller's dreadful The Spirit, but I cant blame you

    0:32 was an awesome shot

  • At least Rorschach IS left handed in this clip. They seem to forgot that detail in the movie. he he

  • whoooooo

three years later, the movies pretty much finally

    REALLY out!!

  • Hehe, this is Watchmen, Frank Miller's style!

  • I saw this 2 years ago, and this still rates better than the trailers and clips from the official Watchmen movie. You definitely should have been a consultant. Hope you're making just as wonderful things and wish you professional success.

  • Woah.

    That was crazy impressive.

I'd love to know some of the techniques you used, if you at all feel like sharing!

  • i think i know how they did it. they filmed and poured awesome juice all over it with a hint of FUCK YEAH! and a mild dash of BAM! lol

  • I worked on this project with thehodster, and it was fairly strait-forward. all the live action was green screened, vector graphics and photography were created and manipulated to match the original comic cells. The hardest part was pulling a decent key from the miniDV footage. Each shot was graded to match the color palette of each cell.

  • Wow, thank you! You don't know how much you've helped me out.

  • oh, maybe i shoud've read the description before i commented

  • the format kinda reminds me of the spirit and sin city for some reason.

  • wicked

  • pretty cool good job keep it up.

  • Very good. Best I've seen.

  • Fucking Awesomeee men!!!! we want more! :D

  • Also, great video. Awesome! :)

  • You know what's sad? Zack Snyder is directing Watchmen and guys like you aren't. Seriously, Alan Moore wanted to show how superheroes would be like in the real world. That's why you see Rorschach slowly climbing up the building wall. Zack Snyder has Rorschach zipping through the air, flying up to the window of the Comedian's apartment. Why? To look cool for the sake of looking cool. Bullshit.

  • i see ur point, but if adrian veidt can catch a bullet, then atleast let rorshach fly up the building with some style.

  • ...no. He's Rorschach, not a borderline superhuman like Ozymandias. I will not compromise on this. Never compromise...even in the face of Armageddon. ;-)

    LOL...Inside jokes.

  • lol good comeback

  • wowwowweewah- Borat.

  • omg! amazing!

  • awsome

  • Damn, dude. You did this for a friggin' high school class?? I'm impressed!

  • freakin awsome

  • that's it?

  • that was pretty good fan film. best ive seen so far.

  • You make a pretty good Rorschach.

  • you misssed the hook going to the window but exactly like page 5 AWESOME!! RORSCHACH OWNS and SO does WATCHMEN

  • Pretty good, but that Brooklyn accent is terrible.

  • GREAT JOB.

    --

    Sent from my Helio Ocean

  • Rorschach is deep.

  • This is amazing! Everything looks wonderful and sticks with the details of the comic.

You did a fantastic job and your Rorschach costume is amazing. I made a mask out of some stockings and it came out alright but yours is really incredible!

I can't think of any other way to describe it!

  • nice!! you did a very good job of it! and i respect you even more because Rorschach is my favorite character!

  • Very nice. The effects are beautifuly done. I hope you got an A on the project.

  • nice work dude, really great!

  • As an obvious fan of Watchmen, you should be very proud. Sweet!

  • Nobuddy cay-uhs.

  • Dude this was fucking awesome

  • Not how I think Rorschach's voice sounds but it's awesome anyway

  • good work!

now lets see if snyder can keep up ;)

  • Perfect... At first glance, I thought this was a college project, but then I read the description. o__o Amazing!

  • Nicely done. I would consider that an A project. ^_^

  • wow that was fantastic.

  • Wow, definitely excellent.

  • I love Rorschach and you make him look really good

  • Very nice. I'm assuming you got an A?

  • Great Job! The Grappling Gun part was perfect,

  • Thats supacool

  • This is one of the best fan films i have seen. Great Rorschach voice too.

  • really good video editing

  • Excellent! Great job guys!

  • What are you talking about? This was a fan made video, not made for the movie dumb ass.

  • definitely a fave!

  • Good job man. amazing. tho like someone said earlier, rorschach's voice is a little too emotional. be better if it was monotone

  • roshach seems to have a brooklyn acent

  • Dude, Thats incredible! I love it! Now if you could make the whole book, that would be Just Awesome. Too awesome for exclamation marks.

  • Awesome job!

  • Visually this is fantastic, but the voice and music bugs me.

But it's me, not you. The voice I just imagine different, and the music... well, I never thought Watchmen was very Sin City-ish. But that's my bad, not yours.

  • This was really really good!

  • i like how you did it Sin City style

  • nice!!! great vid

  • Pretty close to pg. 5 I liked it. You should try to do a bit more.

  • It was page 5 just with music and a speech

  • dude this is awesome! that was so cool i wish you had done more than page 5

  • Not bad. Rorschach is supposed to have a monotone voice though... your Rorschach has too much inflection and emotion. Also, would have been cool to have some sort of sound effect for the grappling gun. Very cool though. Very.

  • how did u do this like what did u use? cuz i want to learn how to do this

  • very freakin awesome!

  • Very nicely done, if this is your student work you have a great future.

  • Very nice, captured the mood really well, 'Raw Shark' looks terrific!

  • Now that I think of if, Rorschach must've been reeally skilled knowing how to climb a Manhattan skyscraper without any previous skills?

  • Oh man! Now this is more like it! I've seen a few fan films on Youtube but this takes the cake! Actual production design, a good voice, everything about this is really high quality! Nice job!

  • awsome movie, got any more i must see them

  • This is a "fan film"? Wow. I just started reading the book because of the trailer and this video has the look of the book NAD the style of the director. Amazing.

  • this is pretty cool, it's really close to the comic

  • I agree with 5460996, has a Sin City look to it. Great.

  • Beautiful !! I like the Dick Tracy feel this had.

  • 5/5, would much prefer more of this to whatever WB is releasing.

  • Very good use of Sin City's style. What exactly did you do that gives it that look and feel?

  • this is great.

    please continue!

  • Amazing.

  • nice work bringing the comic to life.

  • Sweet bro!

  • Nice job!

  • I agree with you "ethanseidel", what the film industry needs is originality. But when dealing with the case of adapting graphic novels, especially adapting a work written by the genius Alan Moore, it's best to just stick to turning a comic book into a movie fame by frame, because you know, the end results will turn out nothing less than genius.

  • very good work.

  • Great work to you and your team! WOw! I totally caught the vibe, and the Rorshach voice worked 100%. I hope to see other films from you.

  • Don't get me wrong this was awesomely amazing. But don't forget that what the film industry NEEDS, what the film industry so lacks, is originality. As cool as this is, turning a comic book into a movie frame by frame is the easiest thing to do. So, yeah this is cool for what it is, but you have created nothing original here.

  • Great job!

By the way, where did you get that music from? Is it from the movie "Sin City", by any case?

  • Still the best Watchmen fan film ever! Great job and amazing work to bring this to life.

  • The voice seemed too forced but that was fantastic.

  • that's... just amazing really A+ dude it felt like you where actually reading the novel

  • This was FANTASTIC! I really like what you did. And this was your final project? Hope you got an A+ for it!!

  • Everyone hears a different voice in their head for Rorschach. I think that giving him a New York accent is brilliant and actually makes a lot of sense. I'll probably hear a grittier version of this voice the next time I read WM.

  • This is how it should be!

  • Mood, style, technique & music are all spot on. However, like all other efforts so far, you haven't captured the 'voice of Rorshach'. While I understand & agree that voices based on a graphic novel are intensely subjective, the voice of Rorshach must, I believe, be free of emotion or accent. Excellent in all other respects, though.

  • you can hear alan moores own interpretation of rorshachs voice if you look online. he uses accent

  • Alan Moore's English so you won't know what Rorshach's true accent is... IF he has one.

  • #1. This video is AMAZING!!!

#2. there is no WAY that Sin City is better than WATCHMEN!

  • That was amazing, Hodster! That's just how the Watchman movie should look.

  • Wasn't Rorschach's voice supposed to be like that except more monotone?

  • Nice! but the voice was a little off.

  • If Sin City the movie wasn't made, wouldn't this style of music be perfect?

  • Very Nice. Reminds me of Sin City.

  • thats fucking ace for a high school project, do more of them!

  • where did you get the music?

  • Sin City Sound track

  • Dude, hit me up.... we have to combine forces and make more small WATCHMEN movies..lol

  • could you make more man...tha was fanastic

  • Couldn't you find a more original soundtrack? It's depressing to think of people linking the genius of Alan Moore to crap like 'Sin City.'

  • Shut the fuck up. Both are milestones in comic history. And its because of Robert Rodriguez that CGI based comic book movies like 300 can be made. That movie cementing Snyder's directing ability and allowing him to adapt Watchmen for the screen.

  • Why do you need movies of comics in the first place? Especially ones like 'Watchmen' that are already perfect and can only be made worse in translation? (I haven't seen or read '300,' so I don't know the case there).

  • I am a Film lover, its my whole life. I also love comic books of literary merit, and Watchmen happens to be my favorite. I will admit that no comic book movie is as good as its source material, but you can't denounce a film Soundtrack of a comic book film and make that the basis for your entire judgement. Then you turn around and denounce comic book films altogether, neverminding the fact that your commenting on a Watchman Fan FILM. Your opinions are valid, the context of them is not.

  • Yeah... you're right. I guess I've let it get too personal (still can't believe they made a film of 'From Hell,' my all-time favourite from Moore). Easiest if I just keep avoiding them.

  • 'From Hell' was shit, Even Depp couldn't save that project. Not as bad as 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen', though!

  • I like "From Hell" on it's own... just not as an adaptation... they TOTALLY missed the point of what Alan Moore wanted to with the book.

  • well i guess you have no taste in comics. watchemen-good sin city-better! and the sin city soundtrack is the shit!

  • Walter didn't know the comedian died on page 5. He found out when he got to the appartment and looked inside the wardrobe.

  • I think it's page five of Chapter 2. He definitely delivered the "A Comedian died in New York" line in that chapter. I think this guy chose to animate the scene where he approaches the building that the Comedian lives in because it's more visually satisfying than the scene where he in fact gives this speech. It's just Rorschach writing it in his journal, chilling on top of a building.

  • wow, that's really cool!

  • Not sure how I feel about the voice over, but visually this was stunning. Very professional look and style. Great work.

  • Hah, I opened the comic and saw that it went perfectly with page 5!!!

    Good job!

  • Perfect match. Very Impressive!!

  • What in the hell kind of high school did you go to? That's some great production!

  • Seriously good stuff there.

  • Seriously good stuff there.

  • Amazing

  • this was awesome! nice job!

  • Moore don't hold the rights to Watchmen, DC does. Thus the film is produced by Warner Bros. AFAIK him and Dave Gibbons deserves royalties, but Moore gave up on them and let Gibbons have the money.

As for the video itself: Awesome!

  • Rorchack animation god. Like. Now you do other caracters? Waing for more. Exited

  • woops, Roschroach. Stupid Norwegian. Typing error. sorry

  • Whoa! A strong atmosphere in this clip! I think Moore maybe should have sold the movie rights to you ;)

  • Yep. DC totally should have sold the movie rights to this guy...!

  • Holy garbage.

Judging from this, you could have a future in big-time films.

  • roschroach rocks!!!!!!!!!!
