Another observation is that Diaz was not even landing any punches when the fight was stopped. Daley had his hands up and was weaving his head to avoid being hit. Random.
Terrible stoppage. MMA is getting out of hand with this crap. Could have just as easily stopped the fight when Diaz was on ground getting pounded and not defending at all.
Arbitrary and random. Diaz is one of the least technically sound and overrated fighters. Dumb luck seems to propel him to great heights.
The point is, a referee could have stopped the fight at that moment and we would be having the exact same debate. 50/50. The standard for stopping a fight is arbitrary. Some fighters who are getting pounded get a chance to comeback, while others are not. Sometimes in the same fight.
@MrTakethetimetothink And the funny thing is they said the same thing about Muhammad Ali almost 50 yrs ago. Know what's up before you go around spouting a bunch of crap.
What was said about Ali is irrelevant. And now he has Parkinson's. I guess that means Diaz will too. Now do you understanding the meaning of relevance? Or do I have to school you again?
I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for this but the stoppage was early. None f Diaz's ground and pound was landing and Daley was still swaying on the ground. I think if the fight would have went on Diaz would've still won more decisively.
@didimydoe3 Word. I guess he got a fight against Penn comin' up? I think. Dude just needs to learn that to become a top fighter he can't just half ass his way around.
Funny how i see some people, or even alot of people, comparing Dailey to GSP...i mean, are you people to be taken seriously?
GSP is so many levels above Dailey its not even funny. Above all, GSP is a professional, and can AND WILL capitalize. Like in this fight, when diaz opens up, Dailey rocks him and doesn't finish. With GSP, commit such a fail either standing or on the ground, and he would just punish diaz, end of story.
I doubt Diaz got what it takes to bring it to class like GSP.
@overgrow00 i will agree on that, GSP isn't a brawler like diaz, but he gets things done, and if everyone could do what he does, he wouldn't be holding the title rite now.
Hes a superior fighter, whether we like his style or not. Personally im not the biggest fan of his fighting either, but what can i say, if i had to put a bet on someone, my money would be on GSP hands down.
@overgrow00 oh and diaz retreated from GSP fight. if hes the best p4p or thinks he is, then hes gotta show it, not just talk smack and retreat like a wimp.
Proly figured its more than he could handle and left it for some other time.
@overgrow00 last thing i read about that novel, was that diaz wasn't showing up to promote the match, and this happened more than once, to the point that diaz coach called white saying sorry or something.
Not sure what GSP has to do with his. Looks to me like its diaz not bothering with the match, so hes proly not interested. Talking smack is his game ^^ hehe
this guy Paul is stupid, he could've won if he only continued punching Diaz when he knocked him down, he was open and vulnerable, but instead u see him backing up letting him recover :/ sucks. But Paul did rock him good
nick diaz looks like a skinny girl when he's punching...i mean yeah he keeps winning his fights....but....he just looks ridiculous...also he's incredibly slow....still excited to see him fight GSP
GSP has endurance power smarts and experience. Diaz has nothin. GSP fought fighters 3 times as good as Diaz and Diaz thinks he will win? GSP TKO second round
@Tanner016 huh? exactly when should -this- fight get stopped then? when Nick gets rocked for a sec, is that what you're sayin'? listen, I thought it was an early stoppage too until I watched the fight again. the first shot made Fedor drop limp straight onto his face
@mjd0ll im saying that with the kongo pat barry fight and with this fight the refs set the precedent that if you receive a flash knockout like fedor, you should be given a chance to recover. that happened twice in this fight and Jon allowed the fighter to recover. It happened to kongo and he was allowed to recover. Fedor got rocked, fell to his face, but was still somewhat aware (watch his hands) then quickly pulled guard. He received a flash ko.
@Tanner016 I understand what you're sayin' - there is a difference though, Nick weren't out and neither was Kongo. they got rocked but got back up fast as lightning. but Fedor went limp, and Herb stopped the fight to ensure Fedors health and safety. it doesn't matter if Fedor regained consciounsness after a few secs - the fact is that he went limp and was out for a very brief moment and Herb didn't want to risk him taking any unnecesary strikes that could potentially cause long term damage.
@mjd0ll i agree 100%. had herb stopped the fight as soon as he went limp i wouldn't be upset. but he let it go until fedor started rolling over, then stopped it.
@Tanner016 there's always gonna be different opinions when it comes down to stoppages. I respect that you think it was the wrong call of Herb, and I beg to differ. hey, you can read a lil' about what Herb says about the whole thing on bloodyelbow's first page if you're interested
heres the thing GSP's striking is good, compared to Diaz he falls short. For GSP to win he would have to use his kicks to back Diaz to the fence, once Diaz is on the fence GSP will have to box his way into a clinch then take down Diaz and ether utlize his wrestling to ground and pound or a submission. That would be my game plan, but heres the thing watching Diaz hes like chuck liddel he lets ppl attack then counters, and Diaz's BJJ is better then GSP, so if GSP plans to laynpray he'll be subbed
@hijodemadre2 GSP would just hold him down for 5 rounds. I can see it now. Potentially a good fight, but GSP would be scared of Diaz's hands and would go for the lay-and-pray option. YAAAWN.
now thats the heart of a champion... there will never be a GSP fight this exciting unless GSP loses... Diaz could have been a punk and worked to get Daley to the ground and probably would have been successful, than we all know Daley would have been a fish out of water and got submitted... instead he beats him at his own game like a true mma champion... proving your the best where ever the fight goes... you cant say the same for GSP
props to nick but jorge masvidal already exposed paul daley. nick leaves himself exposed too much. he needs to learn how to kick more since he doesn't mind being on the ground. he needs to train with other guys in cali like faber's camp and dominic cruz's camp.
This fight is an alltime classic war between two giver and takers, great fight and thanks for the uoload. Yeah, almost forgot to say, Nick is going to be welterweight champion in the UFC.He is the best welter in the world, skills, tons of guts and unbeliveable stamina.

@MrTakethetimetothink, Diaz was defending 100 perent of the time when he needed to. When he is turtled, he is ready to get up.

@fcuk4220
That is completely debatable. You can say the exact same for Daley. The point is the standard is bad and leads to a lot of inconsistency.
