@TFreckle Sarah Connolly was the alto/mezzo soloist in Mahler's 2nd (Resurrection) symphony with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly at the opening concert of the Leipzig Mahler Festival in May 2011. It seems a DVD will be released of this performance in September by Accentus Music.
Wonderful and convincing in every way. Eurofrank1 might learn that the same emotions can be felt by both sexes at the loss of a beloved person..and this interpretation is outstanding.
This piece is a strange choice for a woman: the whole concept of the songs is based upon a male apprentice being "on the road", which is still the case for carpenters/joiners/roofers in Germany.
absolutely an extraodinarily gifted voice. To hear such rich and edgy top notes in a mezzo voice and the lower registers velvety resonance, is a thrilling experience to hear. thank you.
Connolly tops my list of current mezzos today - for this and all those operatic roles she's taken on and made her own. Tasteful artistry without being precious - genuineness in the singing and heartfelt emotion. Wunderschoen! Thanks for the uploads!
She would be the perfect alto/mezzo for Mahler's 2nd symphony. A shame she has never recorded it!

@LaMagnifica13 I know - I have the recording on my shelf. - But there's more to the 2nd symphony than just the Urlicht for a mezzo!
