  • my coach told me to never ever arch your back like that while back-setting...

  • come to europian champions to learn how to play volleyball

  • SLOPPY SETTER

  • sloppy setter

  • Humm.... not good

  • she needs to bend her knees more!! hahaha sry that was mean :/

  • Her technique is not there at all

  • if u r saying this is wrong, then your wrong because setters set backwards(they dont always set in front of them) and you need to use your whole body to set the right way but u still need a good hand technique and they dont show that in this video

  • ...lol this is so wrong.

  • im more of a libro w/ a powerful arm hurting serve and even tho im just 5 foot i spike w/ plenty of authority and power and i jump w/ such a great height extent cause vollyball has helped me build thigh power (and ive jumped hurtles which helped me to jump higher).but no matter how much i practice or the different ways i've experimented w/ i just cannot set a good set.but no doubt i make up for it.

  • you should watch the damn ball, rofl

  • this video is VERY WRONG!!!!!! there should be wrist action! u must use your legs up to your wrist!! bloody wrong edu vid!!!! >:(

  • wow that looks totally WRONG! i play for the Gaylord Blue Devils High School team, and if we did it this way it wouldn't get us very far!

  • Ok, I'm in middle school and know more than this chick. No wrist action? Really? Hmm... ask MY coach about that one...

  • @dittleesierra im in middle school too! and she was not even squared up! you could so tell she was going to set backwards!!

  • I think this coach is a hitter...not a setter...no wrist action?

  • @BoyJewish

there's wrist action in hitting and in setting.

  • No this is absolutely wrong. People who are trying to learn shouldnt be able to view stuff like this.

  • Check these Volleyball prospects

    (Add 3w) .youtube.com/watch?v=CSYRwfITw7c

  • will i grow taller if i play VOLLEYBALL regularly ?

  • there IS supposed to be wrist action...

  • I have free working tips to grow taller add me !

  • fucked up coach xDD

  • WRONG

  • the coach is showing how to do it wrong!

  • Is it unsportsmanlike conduct to psych out the server by making derogatory comments to make him mess up?

  • Okay this is Toontown 437's sister ANNA. Okay THIS IS NOT how you flipping SET! You make a WINDOW for the BALL TO GO INTO &you do somewhat thing like the SUPERMAN! Not what the heck she's teaching this teenage girl!

  • I hope for that team's sake they have a hell of alot of offside players.. Though not the most useful position to attack from when you're going into the power and likely right footed therefore left oriented middle block as well as the easy step to the right for position 1 to cover the far right corner of the court. Offside attackers may be a wild card but u gotta know how to use em

  • she does the oppistie of what ur supposed to do! u are supposed to push forwrd and flick your wrists outward!

  • Man i know how to do mostly everything in volleyball... but i suck at setting i cant set for shit.. idk why :/

  • @2013Elly Okay well this isnt how you set.

  • not a good setter

  • this is uber bad instruction! dont listen to her.... she has a funny voice!

    n ur right....not a good setter

  • youre supposed to step left right when setting and use your legs...they suck

  • this is so wrong! use your knees

  • Her hands should go up an its like a lil jump but your not jumping! Its all in the legs. The coach need to get her resources right.

  • setter's are suppose to set straight up, the girl's arms are going back not up and she needs to arch her back.

  • the teachers not showing it right, she should be using her hands and wrists more and her arms less. thats how i learned to set from a college level coach.

  • @liberochick7 Look at all the best setters at the highest level.....mostly all of them will use hands, wrists, and little elbows to set the ball. If you want to become a top level setter, you need to develop hand/wrist strength and learn how to use that to set the ball. The less body manipulation in setting the less compensation that will be needed with the arms when actually setting AND the more difficult you will be for blockers to read where you are setting.

  • volleyballtalk.webs.com

  • i set better than her

  • Great setting drill!

  • everything seems right. cept, shes setting blind to the RS, u gotta see your set. if u extend your hips too soon, ya blockers will read that, but girls barely block anyway lol and obviously a pretty jump set will sell it every time, RS is pretty easy for one on ones with good passing

  • Uhhh....this is all wrong. Setters SHOULD be using mostly their hands and wrists ONLY. Yes, the legs are important to set the base and get SOME momentum. However a real set involves VERY LITTLE body and mostly only a flick of the wrists and hands. The less going on with the body, the easier it is to not only control the set, but to eliminate the opposing team from reading your set. This is horribly incorrect on the video. Elbows should be bent at about 45 degree angle and never leave that angle.

  • @kachurakr no no no no no no. You ALWAYS extend

  • you guys are freaking retards. that IS the right way to set a backset to the rightside postition.

yess she is trying to back sett and she ISNT using to much hip movement. if you weree smart nad knew anything about volleyball you would know that she is an AMAZING setter and that is a tricky and extremely hard thing to do.

and it is right. so stop saying its not cuz you people know nothing about volleyball and you all sound like total idiots..!

  • @iloveyouforverxoxo Yes. She is a great back-setter. But I'm not wrong. I am my teams setter and this team and your team may do it this way, but on my team we get in front of the ball. If she's all the way over there and it doesnt get to the hitter and someone has to bump it over, they will prolly tip it where the setter should be like anyone smart would do. She should call help on those instead of running to get them. And on the first couple she could have gotten there to get in front of them.

  • @DSvampires you shouldn't be your teams setter by that explanation

  • Uhhhm..it keeps going behind her head. Who is she attempting to get it to? If she's in the setting position it wont go to the spikers. Or am I wrong? I dunno.

  • she is setting a backset or a 9. yes you are wrong the ball will go to the right side hitter... thats why she is setting it that way duh?

  • @DSvampires shes setting backwards if u want to set forward u can do that to be shes jus showing you

  • umm, i think thats just a TAD off..

  • i play volleybal by the TOPSPORTSCHOOL in BELGIUM!! :p

  • @newsander3 hoe voelt ge u nu?

    Kzit daar ook

  • while its true for fundamental setters but if you arch your back and use too much hips you begin to be read and blocks camp on your weak side/outside and middles bc they know when you are going weak and when your not

  • pff not a good setter but more importantly, the coach/trainer shows how to do it wrong - bad educational video :/

  • haha back sets are supposed to have your back not arch and you just put the ball further back on your forhead

  • That didn't really make sense? Do you think they're teaching it right or what's your point?

  • im saying its wrong

  • no stupid its actually right. do you know anyhitng about volleyball j0h4nn25? because if you dont arch your back you can overextend your freaking elbow dumbass.. you have to use your hips i think i know a little more about volleyball than you do stupid.

  • in my highschool, we are taught to use our hips because if we get too used to setting the ball farther back on our head then when we set a 4 we won't set properly. :)

  • her hip and core movement is good but her hands need to be more relax. they need to have a 'trampoline effect' or how make it clear? but what the trainer says is correct :)

  • she doesnt follow through :S

  • ugly sets

  • awful setter

  • i like the girl ^^

  • why would you need such a controlled pass to nobody?

  • im gonna go with what i learned at a volleyball camp.

  • ok so im a setter...and im pretty sure thats not how you do it. haha her foot work is way off and you dont use ur arms to set, just ur wrists

  • anyone and everyone that has any setting skills knows you use ur arms to set. you only use ur wrists when setting the quick attack in the middle. you extend your arms on all other sets, it's called the follow through. Also on the back sets you are not suppose to use ur wrists. and u are suppose to use ur back, and it won't give it away right away unless the setter shows it super early. Good setters won't show it super early. i've coached many setters who are now playing in college currently

  • well, all coaches teach differently. my personal coach told me never to bend my arms, as to not give the set away. good blockers will tell you are going to set back, even if you show the slightest arch in your back

  • Agreed I'm not a setter but as a DS arching the back is a dead giveaway

  • depends on if you're a guy or girl, girls need to bend their arms in order to transfer power. With men, they're strength allows them to use more wrist. At the level the setter's at right now, it's more important to make the right set decision and to get the ball to where it needs to be than it is to be deceptive.

  • you're right

i am a spiker but i can say that the girl in the video doesn't use the arms and doesn't lift the ball with the upthrust of the entire body and legs....as it has to be done.

  • in higher levels of volleyball, yes, it IS just the wrists, but i dont know what level she is trying to teach. the girl looks to be in college....

  • i want to start playing volleyball, i always liked it but never had the chance, i am going to college next semester and id like to join the team :")

  • You've never played volleyball before and you're going to start at college level?

  • well good luck, its not going to be easy that's for sure. Im just afreshmen in high school and Ive been on the teamn for 2 months. High school volleyball is nothing compared to college. College Vball is wayy more intense

  • It depends on what high school you go to. I went to an intense and highly competitive high school. Typically if you aren't playing at the level during high school you won't be playing at that level in college.

  • And I bet Olympic Volleyball is harder than college! Butt i am not sure! I play volleyball its fun!

  • i disagree with the backsets.. ur supposed to use ur wrists to back sets.. if you bend your back, the blockers will read the set and put a double block right away

  • yeah i definitely agree

  • why are you jumping ,?when you haven't touch the ball?

  • u r bad, ur doing this weird hand thing, and your footwork is very off. I dont want to be an asshole but all u got to do is do is get behind the ball, left right footwork, flash hands, and square to target

  • hahahahahahah it's wrong what she does:

  • why do volleyball players wear spandex? and dont tell me its for looks. there must be a legitimate reason.

  • well its cause its aerodynamic keeps you sleek and comfort so you can move all around and stuff like that

  • we also wear them because when we jump around the net, to hit or block, we and our clothes are less likely to touch the net (if we do touch the net then the other team gets a point).

And like the other person said, its for aerodynamics, make us move around quicker, and they are comfortable!

  • Makes pefect sense, yeah that would kinda suck for the other team to get apoint just because your shorts barely skim the net.

  • it's for slides, and so that we can move around more easily

  • you'd think that at this level they would be jump setting. Where as what the video said would be wrong you dont pop your hips in the air its like almost all arm movement

  • no you still have the same motion in mid air. they pop their hips forward...???

  • Now that's VERY basic setup..... If you're playing even near to a something called good volleyball, that's just wrong..

  • agreed, all these are completely readable

  • agree

  • wow i really like how she moves her hips lol

  • i have a question.

has anyone been called for double hitting when you side set?

as in someone passes and you go up to set, but instead of setting it to your hitter, you set it over the net.

  • yes,

that is because you are not square...

or one hand is going out faster rather than the same time.

  • yeahhh that's happened to me before.

not all refs call it though.

    last year it was only one ref that called it;

what's funny is that he wasn't even an official ref hahaha

    he was really good though.

  • that's the perfect technique if you want to make sure everyone in the gym knows where you're setting

  • actually not if you're waiting to till the last second to move your hips. The reason why it probably looks like it in this video is because they were emphazing on that particular part. I'm actually training a new varsity setter tomorrow for my guys team, and the way this coach showed it was perfect, and not super easy to read.

  • i tried this..really improved my setting... thnx

  • shes better than me

  • god i'm a power and can set better than that...

  • Very goood video.

    She is pretty good.

  • i'm 99% sure that if the ball's spinning after you set it your gonna get called for carry...

  • nah dude you'd get called for a double touch

  • ahh yes. thats the one. thanks.

  • no i don't agree.. i set backspin sets to the outside when my outside hitter is late and i still want to play a fast set.. never got called for carrying/double touch or whatever you call it

  • thats in beach volleyball only, the ball cant make more than 1.5 rotation there

  • only in sand vball

  • uhh...lol she doesnt know what shes doing..shes like slapping the ball..and very bad form..

  • i agree with vmh1976 she is really predicatable

  • She's very unstable... I don't like this "step through the set" stuff. If there's a middle hitter there, she's gonna be right into her.

  • For me this is very good video especially for beginner. Well done & keep it up!

  • no you do not always face the hitters when you set.

and yeah it looks like she's just rebounding the ball off her hands without really using them.

  • no you sett backwards as a bit of trick, because you have 3 hitters if your a setter usually 2 hitter in front of you(strong side, and middle hitter) and then one behind you (weakside hitter) so you can set back to the weak side for a good kill usually....

  • Uh dude you can backset so you can hit a 9.

  • she got a nice ass (the player)

  • she does have a nice ass

  • nice info!!

  • Should be using her hands to hide her set more.

  • great vid, but the hands should be up earlier be4 contact. but sweet

  • Ummmm... terrible... making your setter be so predicatable....

  • Good information. thanks!

  • this is great. it helped me work on my back-sets

  • good info on where u should get your power to set.
