  • I've lived here my entire life. I've watched it go down the drain. But raising our children here doesn't mean they will fail in life. Its not the town that will make you fail. It's the parenting an how you raise your child!!!! A child can fail even if you live in the best place on earth!! This town used to be beautiful. It's full of history and landmarks. An now welfare and druggies! Yes it's a crappy place but the people that don't live here, realize that not the whole town is that way! The

  • @MissStarStruck1- I know not the entire town is crappy. I lived there for 9 years. I didn't want to record the prostitutes and crack houses. Rather, I concentrated on one tiny section that people would likely never see, even if they'd lived in Portsmouth their entire lives.

  • Portsmouth is dying fast. The local govt is about as corrupt as it can get. Hookers roam the streets unchecked. Pillheads everywhere. Rampant unemployment. Crime is sky high and the police turn a blind eye to it all. It's sad really.

  • He filmed like the worst part of portsmouth, there are nicer and cleaner areas, alot acually.

  • This is my hometown. It was in bad shape when I was four, five years old, but it's in horrible shape now. I live in Ashland, Kentucky now and am going to Shawnee State for the fall. Almost all of my family is from here and have lived here during the good times and bad times. I've wanted to help clean up Portsmouth for a while now, and while it's going to take much more than community service to clean the town up, I'm looking into doing some community service with the University to clean it up.

  • I'm set to go to school there in the fall, and i recognize that the townies don't keep up with their shit. That's why I want to go to campus and learn about what I can do to prevent and maybe even improve the state of affairs this town is in. I'm ready to go balls to the wall. What this town needs is someone who will stand up for rightiousness, and who will not tolerate murder. Anything else I say would be seen as trolling, so I'm going to digress and leave it all for my campaign. See ya ;)

  • woooop woooop..to my home town..ps.their aint no cleanin up p-town its the shityest town in ohio nothing but drugs and muders..and poverty...

  • Choosing to raise children here should be considered child abuse.

By doing so you're setting them up for failure and stacking the odds against them.

  • Once again a call to surrender and retreat (to the suburbs of course). The overall structure of Portsmouth has actual "Architecture"! I always find it bemusing to hear my fellow citizens shriek for the abandonment of the fellows. "Raze P-Town!" The truculence of such people should be ridiculed. After all, the fate of the ridiculous is to be ridiculed.

  • I was raised in this shithole I don't know how I made it out in the 50s and 60s gangs and drunks and punks roamed the streets.. I am so glad I didn't have to raise my kids here..It is a whole different world away from here.. I still go back tho it is my home town.. If you drive up any side street the ho's will block your car and beg for dope money.. P-town people might not want to admit it BUT it is so !!!

  • @MrLongtimegone this is so true..im thank full that i just got out of there and moved to florida.i sitll have a lot of familt frinds and my daughter and son there but my kids r gona be with me and out of that shit hole verry soon..wooop wooop to p-town.but i think it will alway be trashy..and full of scum...there r now jobs,nothing..

  • My Grandmother lived on 10th Street, do you have any film of that area? Thanks for posting.

  • Portsmouth ohio is a toilet. murals are all that city has to offer. No jobs,8/10 of the population is on welfare or some other type of taxpayer money, has the crime rate of a major city ,very corrupt local government, drug abusers, thieves.highest drug abuse in the state of ohio. people snort pills one minute then turn around and preach about jesus, racism, incest, illiteracy, ect avoid it at all costs nothing good about it..but hey its oxycotin abuse and sales capitol of the united states.

  • @faceless1975 I agree, its a shit hole here. The biggest job here is the damn railroad.

  • You were right by Front Street.

Its one of the nicer parts of portsmouth.

Mainly because of the murals on the flood walls

  • @Chrispisz12 Though that area has potential (for a serious developer and architect), I would hardly say it is one of the nicer parts. Though after nearly fifteen years away from there, I don't know what IS one of the nicer parts.

  • Well I live in Kentucky right across from Portsmouth.

I don't see how this is rear.

    Portsmouth is a dump

  • becuse its the law and if u know how to work it u can take homes money u can own old pepole and there shit so work hard gett old come to portsmouth call roger for help so he can take your shit put u in goldinyears sale your home and u will have no right so come one come all to this lawless town to retire

  • i don't think i've seen where your at?

  • ive seen this side of ptown all to much...but it'll always be home to me...i did move but not far less than 30miles up st.rt.125...we clearly need some real help there(not talkn about dirty yards)and i hope help is on the way; sooner than later

  • looks like it started out behind the Chinnia berry.

  • listen to JAKEBARNS28! : )

  • Wow. Portsmouth is an interesting looking town. Physically it has the raw material available for some interesting projects. It appears its people are holding it back (or some of them).

The videographer should probably agitate for enforcement of any city ordinances compelling property owners to maintain their property. If no such ordinance exists, lobby for one.

Don't tear down - learn from others' mistakes -- creatively REUSE.

    Historic Districts WORK.

  • The videographer doesn't live in Portsmouth.

  • @jakebarnes28 they should level that town or evict 90 percent of the population. 3 out of 4 babies born there are born addicted to oxycontin.

  • it will take a bulldozer to clean up this shithole.the only place ive ever seen worse than south central Los Angeles

  • go to the east end around night fall... U will get yourself some footage my friend... or you could try the ville

  • complainers, hustlers and slugs. thats why i no longer live there. hear that bandito07?

  • but why man? why can't WE make it better? You should see our new mayor, cleanin house. I dont know if it is for the better but at least there is change in the air. Its just to easy to leave for some, impossible for others.

  • all the people in portsmouth are lazy and dont care about the place. but i agree with bandit... we should clean some shit up

  • how about instead of using time and energy videotaping and posting on youtube and complaining you use that energy to get some ppl together and clean the place up

  • The first step in fixing a problem is acknowledging that one exists. That's what I've done with my video. I live two hours from Portsmouth, so getting together a clean-up gang is not at all practical.

How about you get some people together and clean the place up, instead of wasting time on YouTube looking at other peoples' videos?

  • i said it first. u do it. lol

  • @bandito07 it would take an army.. i've lived there

  • It's a shame that Portsmouth has been raped by years of bad local government and blatant mismanagement.

  • i grew up here and it is the mist trashy town i have ever seen!!!!!!

  • pfffffft. put in some hog pens, fences up an a barn. while yer at it throw in a john deere dealership.

  • I say strip out the foliage and paint murals on all these walls and buildings. Or just have Acme Floodwall Co. put panels in front of all first.

  • The city of Portsmouth shouldnt look like this

  • social comment concerning 'trash' in portsmouth: how should i put this?.. you know how they speculate that neanderthals, for example, share a common origin with primates? portsmouth DOES have some ppl who have sense enough where to shoot their guns and what dwellings to habitate. LOL have a great day ya'll.

  • violence, if you'll remember has been a tumultuous companion to appalachia and its tributaries. lotta history here. portsmouth has a unique and rich history. its people are said to be resilient and fiercely independent. as cincinnatti here has done a great job documenting in his urban exploration. 2 thumbs up cincy...kudos!!!

  • greg, portsmouth is located on the ohio river. a route, if you'll remember in your history, for the slaves. concealment after crossing the river was vital. later, the larger tunnels (the entrance, now sealed for decades) were put in circa the 1930's fro reasons unbeknownst to this old geezer. i'm only 50. LOL and yuppers mr. greg, portsmouth has its share of trash who think its o.k. to discharge rounds in town. but then again, the whole planet seems to share that thinking. so, i dunno.

  • ok so why tunnels ? Here in Texas close to Austin we have old structures, and tunnles, that were said used in or for boot

legging I am 36 so alot of history I have heard and am greatful, but I want to go into those tunnles- lol

    Greg

  • IM SPEECHLESS- LOL

Well they have their Dish slapped onto the building, and a matress I guess it's a matress out in the fresh air- lol- I was waiting to hear gun shots- ha

    Greg

  • my last names on the brewery. nice to meet you.

  • if pat's cafe has the same owner, an old nam vet, he kows alot about the history of portsmouth. but i've been told since i was a boy that the tunnels can be accessed from the shops on 2nd st. my family has lived there since the 1st white settlers... they knew. i may know your family. can u disclose their name on here?

  • it's been said that the some of the shops on 2nd st. have access to the old tunnels during the underground rr. they connected to the riverfront at one time. portsmouth itself is said to have a massive tunnel beneath it, but its been sealed off. you might want to visit the brewery and ask to see downstairs. you should be able to see where the south wall has been sealed.

  • Interesting. I may just do that on my next visit.

  • "porch-miff". i'm not sure what thesse bldgs. were b4. old apts. you should try to get in and tape the inside. DON"T GET CAUGHT! i wanted to get into the old icehouse b4 it got blown down. too bad. the old portsmouth tunnels right there on 2nd st. would be a great urban exploration venture. i'm out west now, don't get back there much anymore.

  • If you know how to access the tunnels, I'll see if I can check them out the next time I am in town. I live in Cincinnati myself, and visit family often in the Portsmouth area, and when I do, I often take off for a few hours to get out and goof off, as you can see in my videos.

I have plenty of uploaded videos from the Portsmouth area.
