the best out there are evinrude and yamaha....i have both on my boat and never have any problems with them, i have a 115 hp evinrude ficht from 2003 (the one made by bombardier) and a 15 hp yamaha 4 stroke as a kicker motor for trolling...both are great motors and sip on fuel. i had a 130 hp yamaha 2stroke and it burned up because the damn oil pump broke...thats when i repowered with a used evinrude...i prefer evinrude because of the lower maintenance, better fuel economy, and reliability.
@fishaholic2012 don't get me wrong, yamaha makes great 4stroke motors but they are a bit heavy which is another reason why i like my evinrude...yamaha makes for a great commercial engine because of the big oversize parts they use which makes them last so long, but that will compromise on weight and fuel consumption. evinrude does the same but doesn't over do it which is why they last long and use the least fuel out of the pack from my personal experience.
it also depends on application, from my experience on the water (my whole life of 35 yrs in southeast louisiana) mercurys were unreliable in saltwater applicaions hard to start and could not handle a load and sluggish hole shot .mercury on a light fast fresh water bass boat ok
@enginemaster01 ya i can understand that i dont fish freshwater much...verados and mercury racin motors r thing only mercs i would consider buying for saltwater
you need two trim the motor down. you lose power running that motor so high.
