Andrew, I know the perfect HD camera for you. It's got Firewire out, it's HDV, and has XLR output for hi-def. audio. It's the "SONY HVR-HD1000U." It has everything you'd need, and it is under $2,000.00 in Canada!
I think you'd be hard pressed to find another HD cam that comes close under $2,000. And, I highly agree with you, the workflow of a direct-in set up (firewire like you'd mentioned) is super fast to move directly into editing and very, very high-quality.
Those SLR's you'd mentioned are no good to him. He requires Firewire & HDV output. SLR's don't support that, & they don't have hi-def. audio output (XLR's). He's after an HDV cam with hi-def. audio built in. He doesn't want to up-convert audio. He's after a direct input sync for the video and audio output. I know it only saves about 20 - 30 min. during editing, but if you're busy (and every min. in the day counts)... hey, time is money. The SONY HVR-HD1000U is the ticket for Andrew!
I'm pretty sure he's used a Canon HX A1S for past videos. There are better cameras now that are more efficient at uploading videos now. He's done the best lessons here on youtube. If you donate it will help you get better at the guitar. Btw, professional camcorders start around $4000.
At minimum, a decent cam for Andrew will cost $3,000.00 with the remotes, etc. Your comment is really, REALLY harsh. He's not looking for some $500 camcorder, (that has a sticker on the side of it that say's, "HD"). Andrew's after a real HDV unit, with built-in output for hi-def audio. He's after REAL HD, (audio & video synched), not up-converted 1080p like 90% of the consumer cams do with video. He's not heading to WAL-MART for this okay. Wise up buddy!
wow, 593 dollars on the first day!!! holy shit, that is one great start

@jippie11261,
Thanks! This is funny because that SONY you mention in your post is at the top of the list.

I think you should try*

I think Canon 550D or 600D. They are not very expensive and they will work perfectly for your videos.
