Well, I've lived in Brazil (Sao Paulo) and have had my house invaded, attempted car jacked (I ran him over) and various other problems there. I love Brazil, but compared to Canada, my home country it is a murderous, unsafe country. In India, the slums are safe (abject poverty) but safe. The favelas' in Brazil are an infestation of everything that is violent and dysfunctional about society.
BUT, there is very few things that are better than sitting on a warm beach on the coast of Brazil.
India has much huger slums than favelas. called Bastees , but India is defimitely a very safe country when compared to Brazil. Killing is restricted to target killings by the Mumbai underworld, but the common follks are much safer. I want to go to Brazil, but the thought terrifies me.

@Tekid0x I've been to Brasil and it's so huge that it's hard to believe that Brasil has some awesome cities like Curitiba, prosperous and highly modern, on one side and then experience a city like Rio. Brasil isn't bad at all but it has problems in the bigger cities like Rio and Sao Paulo. We hope that maybe one day, these favelas and all the bad things they cause will start to disappear. There are MILLIONS of people in poverty in Sao Paolo...my relatives are some of the impoverished people there, and they call me all the time begging for money. I was about to take a trip to SP, but my relatives feared for my saftey . They were worried that i'd "stick out" and become a target for kidnapping or robbery. Well, I've lived in Brazil (Sao Paulo) and have had my house invaded, attempted car jacked (I ran him over) and various other problems there. I love Brazil, but compared to Canada, my home country it is a murderous, unsafe country. In India, the slums are safe (abject poverty) but safe. The favelas' in Brazil are an infestation of everything that is violent and dysfunctional about society.
BUT, there is very few things that are better than sitting on a warm beach on the coast of Brazil.

India has much huger slums than favelas. called Bastees , but India is defimitely a very safe country when compared to Brazil. Killing is restricted to target killings by the Mumbai underworld, but the common follks are much safer. I want to go to Brazil, but the thought terrifies me.

@Tekid0x I've been to Brasil and it's so huge that it's hard to believe that Brasil has some awesome cities like Curitiba, prosperous and highly modern, on one side and then experience a city like Rio. Brasil isn't bad at all but it has problems in the bigger cities like Rio and Sao Paulo. We hope that maybe one day, these favelas and all the bad things they cause will start to disappear. If a huge country like India manages to move forward and improve so will Brasil!

I was about to take a trip to SP, but my relatives feared for my saftey . They were worried that i'd "stick out" and become a target for kidnapping or robbery. i have been to brazil and i love it there. it is a beautiful country but unfortunately has so much poverty and crime;however, i was treaty very well and even backpacked through the jungle 3 days &2 nights without fear. btw i am a 56 yr old lady in canada. my prayers and thanks to you all. i remember dumping my backpack giving all food i had with me that day to the children.as i walked through a slum in sao paulo. i have alot of respect and love for brazilians..........karen.

It did not starts here in Brasil. It came with tourists people from USA and Europe. Man, I'm a tax payer and work all day and come home exhausted. I don't think the government should give food to those criminals at 1:17.

A população carcerária no Brasil vem crescendo ano a ano. Em 1995, eram 148.760 presos: 95,4 para cada grupo de 100 mil habitantes. Em 1997, eram 170.602 presos, com taxa de encarceramento de 108,6 por 100 mil. Em abril de 2001, já havia 223.220 presos no país: 142,1 detentos para cada 100 mil habitantes. De longe, a maior concentração estava em São Paulo, com 94.737 presos e proporção de 277,7 presos para cada 100 mil habitantes.
