Great advice. I would like to add while you take the job you get also don't be content. Spend your time adding to your skills in a way that it fuses your passions and your education if your education isn't already directly linked to your passions.
Also a dream job doesn't have to be your only dream. It has never been easier to create your own opportunity. You may be ready or soon be ready to not work a job but run a company to fulfill your dreams.
SHE'S RIGHT - settle for something you can tolerate --- I do not agree with the victim part of this video -- many people are driven by family and practical needs and they become victims and settle out of neccessity....find a compromise between what is realistic, what you parents want you to do, and what you see with your own eyes......I made the mistake of listening to my parents and their 50's/60's ideas in the 80's............
Yeah, all you need to do is believe in yourself, because all good things come to those who wait, and dont be someone your not and dont be a victim and keep your eye on the ball and dont settle for less and be confident and dont be afraid to fail etc etc etc ( add whatever useless cliche you want).
So many peoples philosophies of life are like canned chicken soup. No substance.
You are not waiting if you are actively pursuing your carrer objective. If you want to be a CEO, you don't just send off a CV as an 18 year-old. You have to settle for something lower down the ladder initially.
That's just life, for most people. Plan accordingly.
YES it is pretty darn stupid BUT that's why I'm trying to get a bunch of smart sensible career oriented people to have a discussion on my "college advantage?" video are you one of those people?
Ok, so I should follow my dreams and not settle for a job that isn't 'me' because I'll be living a phoney existence, BUT i should ALSO settle for a job i don't like for 10 years and smile through it. Is she aware that she makes no sense? Oh well. I guess when you're insanely rich anyone will listen to your bullshit.
She is saying that you should have a plan to attain the job you want, not the job your parents want you to have. That job won't fall into your lap but you should strive hard to achieve your dream and be true to your dream.
Rome wasn't built in a day. Nothing worthwhile comes easy.
When you achieve your goal, it will be all the sweeter for the struggle that went into attaining it.
So follow my dreams rather than take a job for 10 years that isn't 'me' but ALSO settle for a job i don't like for 10 years and smile? Oh well. I'm sure the pay-cheque for the public speaking was substantial enough to merit such bullshit. She could have summarised by telling us to shut up and get over our dreams.
Nice contradiction. Do what you love or you'll quit in 10 years....wait, that's not realistic, so settle and learn to love it. That's really useful Floozy...err, Suzy...that's really worth the 100k or however much you steal for speaking/appearance fees. That must be the same kind of flip-flopping you did, being the professional journalist you were, when interviewing/meeting Jack "he's married...he's available...I'm a journalist...screw it, it's an upgrade for me and for him..win-win". Sickening.
Nice contradiction. Do what you love or you'll quit in 10 years....oh yeah, that's not realistic....settle for whatever you can get and learn to love it....thanks Suze, that was worth the 100k or whatever you steal for each speaking engagement. Must be the same type of rationale you used when "interviewing" Jack when you met him..."he's married....he's available...he's married....who cares, I'll upgrade and so will he...win-win"....sickening.
Yup, I am sure everybody who comments on this video will be CEO of a multinational conglomerate someday. All you have to do is wait long enough, right?
You make a good point. Have you heard how much money Michael Jackson started making AFTER he died? It's ridiculous. Just goes to show...you could create quite a portfolio after your own funeral. As a college graduate this gives me hope...I can start making money when I'm DEAD! Oh, all the fun I can have as a corpse when the fruits of my lifelong labor pay off. It sounds like a bad stand-up act but that shit is true...almost all 3000 students in my graduating class are experiencing it
Okay, they both got what they wanted (one definition of "power"). But they're both obnoxious and insufferable. He's a lizard, she's an ambitious slut. And any advice they presume to give the rest of us means NOTHING. Hey, it worked for them, but are the rest of us as amoral and damned lucky in timing?
Obnoxious or not, G.E. flourished under him and many CEO's and managers respect his management style and the advice that he has to give them (which according to you means NOTHING).
It took me 20 years to get into my dream job. Experience is the key to getting what you want. Network with people and learn from them.

Jack Welch's company has victimized millions. he has a lot of nerve telling people don't be a victim. What an asshole.

I bet we can all hope to have lives as successful as Jack Welch, too. I know I plan to be CEO of a multinational conglomerate someday.
