That flak vest wasnt even from vietnam it was from desert storm IN THE 90s, vietnam was in the 60s, and the ceramic plates that stopped the ak were still in testing at the beginning of the war! They werent issued till later.
sigh. i hate when people associate my favorite weapon with politics. makes me look like one of "them" when really im a red blooded american who just likes guns >.> so ty politicians!
the first vest was NOT left over from the vietnam war the one issued in vietnam was the nylon m69 frag vest. the vest he shot at first was a 80' pasgt kevlar vest. it could stop pistol rounds with the plates it came with but you could add stronger plates that could stop a ak round. but the rifle stopping plates were considered to heavy and most troops didnt wear them
if you do your research you see that the bullet proof vest he had in his hand does not stop the ak round because the ammo shot is full metal jacket or armor piercing
@killzone321 the one on the left was a PASGT not the m69 i have a M69 and the PASGT is very different and another thing the m69 was never issued in M81 woodland camo only in OD green.. and the PASGT was originally issued in M81 woodland camo as we see in the video
i smell b.s. the flak jacket was made to stop....guess what flak. not effing bullets. we wouldnt give our soldiers protection against shrapnel instead of bullets.
actually many reserve units and support units had not recieved actual body armor when they were first deployed. I saw a few of them and asked and they just said they had not recieved any yet.
I want to see this on TV now, get this message into the publics hands. It is awful what the U.S. Military has done to protect a simple business deal with the Intercepter.
This video is lies, I'm sorry. The vest he claims is left over from vietnam wasn't issued until after that war. And no single kevlar vest will stop AK47 rounds. You have to have hard rifle plates, made of ceramic or steel. And the AK47 was used in Vietnam, by the way.
i love what siriosix said about us stealing they're oil. the reality is that they fucked us, we invade, then we give them back the oil fields so that they can sell it back to us at super high prices.
First the PASGT vest was developed in the early 80's. Second it doesn't account for the ISAPO that goes with it, that can carry similar plates to the ones used in Interceptor, and should deliver the same level of protection.
Interceptor is simply the two armor packages integrated into one carrier, which makes it easier to wear.
Also, everyone knows soft kevlar armor WON'T stop rifle rounds! Plus, the AK-47 was the favorite weapon in Vietnam! It's not new! It was made in 1947!
This ad is garbage. The 'Vietnam' vest he shoots wasn't used in Vietnam! And, studies suggest U.S. losses in Vietnam would have been reduced 40% if every soldier in Vietnam HAD had that 'old' vest and the helmet that goes with it.
Why does he call Iraqi's terrorists! Fuck sake, we're the ones in their f'ing country stealing their oil for the rich bastards running our countries into the ground.
ahh, idiots, yeah they stop pistol rounds but did you pay attention? No u didn't, he clearly stated the AK-47 7.62 mm steel core round is the a terrorist's choice of weapon not a fricking 9mm or pistol!!!!
Chice of terrorists, gangsters and badass mo-fo's everywhere. Aparently this guy forgot about armor piercing rounds, just watch the North Hollywood shootout.
This ad is pathetic. The 'old' armor in this video wasn't even a type used in Vietnam. Plus, no kevlar armor will stop ak-47 rounds unless solid armor plates are used.
The thing is in the Vietnam war they used AK-47's commonly, and in Iraq and such they use AK=47's commonly. That body armor this video is promoting is the Interceptor Body Armor, and he's saying the troops still are using the PASGT system, which was used 1980-2004.
The only reason armour like dragon skin is still classed as "experimental" is that it hasn't been accepted for general issue. Also the heaviest version of dragonskin is the only type of body armour that is rated class 5.
You are correct, but the russians have 8mm plates, they are hevier then dragon skin but much more efective. They stop multiple 7.62x54(SVD) at 20 feet without change in shape.
The service members that got the older armor issued to them never left the base (cooks, clerks, etc). Everybody I ever saw "outside the wire" in both Afghanistan and Iraq had the newer body armor. More political BS aimed at misleading the general public if you ask me.
The Russians make 7.62x39mm rounds that can defeat any body armor now, considering that that even third world armies are equipping their troops with body armor, soon the new rounds will be widely produced
I have to wonder about the impact that VoteVets will have on this next Senate election... remember their old ad (the one that crushed George Allen, Jim Talent, Rick Santorum, et. al.)?
Collins, Stevens, Smith, and Coleman all voted against the body armor and I'm sure VoteVets will remind the public of this.
U.S. Marine Corps: There's no constituency for body armor in America. Is Lockheed Martin, Northrop-Grumman, Raytheon in the body armor business? Hell, no! You know, there's no money in it. Second seeing how inept the Federal Govt is I would create my own Body Armor very easy to do. All on needs is a bunch of Stainless stell sheets Rivets and Drill. Some Krylon Paint if you wish to keep it camoflagued.
i think he must try with teflon rounds. i guess the flak jacket will tear and there is no difference while they are dead! but anyway i luv peace, war is just shit
Fascist are the ones running the earth. Lies, lies, lies, lies they create virus. Like how they create enemies to pocket the tax payers and oil consumers money. hey listen. ak47 isnt modern weapon but now it armed with the new 7.62 uranium shells. any modern weapon armed with old rounds is not deadly as modern rounds. but anyway i prefer wearing high impact kevlar armor, its bullet proof for all rounds except grenade. flak jacket will tear if it shot by teflon rounds
I imagine that VoteVets will target Susan Collins, Norman Coleman, John Sununu, Gordon Smith, and John Warner in the next cycle... and this advertisement doesn't need to be changed at all...
whoever votes against solid armor which gives OWN troops above needed protection should be executed for betrayal (as it's in fact like he work for enemy).
You are correct that it's not a substitute, but this is the ONLY armored vest many of the first 2 OIF rotations of US Nat'l guard/reserve Soldiers were given (that's 2 years) to defeat bullets or IEDs. Know what you speak about before you speak out.
You dumbass ak was used in vietnam war as well you dick and how do you want to be proceted against ak when it has such caliber OMGGGGGG what a dumb shit...
And...hmm you said "this is modern body armor for TODAYS WEAPON" Ehhh did you know that Ak47 means that it was first made in 1947 you bitch? So...modern weapon? Ak-47? I dont think so...
ur a dumb shit. you have no clue what you are talkin about. the ak is the most common weapon because russians supplied it to everybody, and yes, the weapon is more modernized than say, the garand. its about as competitive as the M16/M4, just not as accurate and slower rounds. but just as deadly if you know how to use it. the prob is your arab friends are retards.
this boy is lieing, the second vest isnt vietnam war era vest, its us army 80,s and 90,s vest, and i think too like others that he didnt put plates in that vest
The "old" vest you refer to is a flak jacket. I has no place for plates wasn't meant to have plates period. I hapen to have one as well as the othe point blank vest and a level IV A vest as well. Been over to Iraq 3 times a civilian.
the first one was a flack jacket and it did not stop the rounds. the second armor was ballistic armor and they have IIIA and IVA plates for them. My guess is it had a minimum of IIIA since it did stop the rounds. Those plates are made to stop 7.69 ball ammo and multiple strikes from 3 to 10 strikes. AK's aren't that accurate. Get your facts straight buddy.
Great video, well, i can say that this is not what president george W Bush wants, he is cares about our troops, Vote on George W Bush to make the world safer and without terrorists.
I didn't know that Vietnam-era vest had velcro! There is a difference between combat soldier body armor and a flak jacket this troop was shooting into. Soldiers in the rear are generally issued the flak vest for protection against shrapnel. The shooters in the field get the body armor for protection against enemy rounds! Can you say propaganda! By the way, I wonder if Granato was actually kicking in the doors or checking his e-mail in the rear!
I was issued that SAME POS body armor during my time there. It is intended to protect against blast debris, not rifle fire. The Marines we saw just laughed and said hope you never have to depend on it....I got the real stuff only when I flew.
You don't make any sense. And you must have misunderstood me because it wasn't a news story. Listen carefully to me next time so your response will be relevant.
oh and by the way...if you were with military intelligence then you were FAR from being a frontline soldier. So don't imply you were throwing grenades and eating bullets, because I'm too smart for that bullshit.
if you don't believe me, search 'Gunners Palace'. You'll hear it yourself from a dozen soldiers. One even makes a joke of pointing out all the bulletholes and penetration points in the humvee that politicians promised would be fully armored and bulletproof. The soldiers were forced to weld scrap metal to the doorpanels for added protection. Now does that sound like bullshit to you? Wisen up.
lol, THAT WAS A DEBUNKED NEWS STORY. the un uparmored HMVV was in KUWAIT not IRAQ. The HMVV wasnt uparmored becuase THEY WERE FLYING IN not driving. lol you got JUKED
I have a video of an AQ sniper shooting a US Marine and it shows the Body Armor stopping the bulllet, and the guy gets right back to and finds cover behind his HMVV and returns fire.
That's not a lie, actually. Troops were promised better body armor, superior to the Vietnam-era vests they were initially issued. But most of them haven't received them. You shouldn't be so quick to label statements as liberal bullshit, because in the mid-east, soldiers are dying because of the fact you deny.
And the research you should do, is find the 78 point percentage factoid that pinpoints what soldiers are getting killed and injured from (IED) and not bullets.
Just because some people happen to have the right armor does not mean this is a lie. It was well documented that many units were shipped to Iraq with body armor so inadequate that their families and friends were buying it for them. How do you even know that the guy you saw take the hit got his armor from the Army and not from his parents? Don't talk about looking at a video. Talk to people who've served over there, especially the ones who went over in 2003 and 2004.
The troops have been getting better armor, but most still don't have it and were definitely deployed without it. Often, family members go shopping online and mail (at their own expense) better body armor to Iraq. The video you are showing is of one lucky guy. Many others have not been as lucky. Go back to your right-wing day dream.
I can't believe it. We have idiot repulicons on here sitting on their rear trying to defend not getting our guys armor. Meanwhile our guys are getting torn to shreds. Go ahead idiots defend your stupid racist Senator. Just goes to show how low will you go. Lets quit the bickering and get these guys the equipment and manpower they need to get the job done right if that means DRAFT so be it. Then we will see who the real MEN are and who are the first to run for deferments.
A) The AK was a weapon far ahead of its time and is still one of the most effective rifles being used today.
B) The body armor manufactured to counteract its effects at the time were not effective and still aren't.
There are hundreds of issues to debate over for this election. I'm glad Webb and the people supporting him are sticking to them. Allen might actually win if he stops kicking himself in the ass.
HELP PREVENT DOMESTIC TYRANNY Call your Senators now! Tell them "NO" on BILL 2453. The Cheney-Specter Bill (S. 2453) will legalize warrantless domestic spying by the Executive Branch. The Bill will also legalize warrantless eavesdropping of all communications, as well as legalizing the data mining and the profiling of every U.S. citizen. In effect, the legal concept of "probable cause" will be eliminated from the Constitution. WWW.BORDC.ORG
So.... you're saying that the armed forces (main force, reserves, and national guard) could not afford body armor with only the $87 billion appropriation?
I think the ad is misleading for stating that Sen. Allen was willing to sacrifice troops by not providing them with enough funding.
The amendment Allen voted against was specific to the Reserves and would, while not specifically earmarking it, have given them funding for upgrading their body armor. This was additional funds for the Reserves and Allen could have voted yay on this and the $87bil. Whether stwendler's misleading post is intentional, folks should be careful that they have the facts straight before accusing the vets behind this ad of lying.
Turns out that this is just a misleading ad. Allen voted to table an amend to a bill that would have given $1B to the armed forces going to Iraq (vote # 116 of 108th Congress, 1st session). Instead he voted for (vote #125) an $87 billion extra appropriation for the military.
It's important to note that neither bill specifically mentions "body armor" or flak jackets in the text - not even "armor". How the money is spent is left to the military according to their needs in the field.
wow, i didn't know they made body armor that can withstand an AK-47 bullet. Did they use full 7.62 caliber bullets? I've read that a AK-47 bullet can go right through an engine block.
Neither did I! I thought it would only slow down the projectile to minimize damage. I would like to see who did the loads on those rounds hitting the newer vest. By the way, was the newer armor going directly to combat/combat support units while older Vietnam-era armor going to rear echelon troops...I would like to know?
Lol, u guys are dieng in Iraq, lol, who invades a country these days anyways ? Not cool lol, you invaded a country, and left ur soldiers bare ass in the woods, lol America the world Super power hahhahaha :D
whats so funny about people dying you sick fuck? I'm opposed to the Iraq invasion and Israel and US foreign policy etc but I don't think it's a good thing that people are dying (and that's how it's spelt). Why don't you try being a bit intelligent about your viewpoint? or are you not capable. If you're anti-American back yourself up.
lol, u need to chill the fuck out buddy, lol you dont invade a country, for no godamn reason, u guys wouldnt have to worry about terroist attacks in the first place if u wern't so arrogant lol. Notice how theres so many other country's in this world, and terroists are only coming after u guys lol, theres u evidence there, u guys are so "Big and Powerful" but now u guys are running scared, lol, well kudos to u.
The only countries, that has fears of terroist attack now, are countries affiliated with ur sorry arrogant asses. Your evidence, is in facts, There attacking you, because u feel the need to tell people how to run there countries. IMO ur leaders are Modern Day Nazi's who have manipulated modernology, to convince everyone its there right thing. Your right theres nothing funny about death... so why invade someones country?
You dumb motherfucker I'm not American. I'm from the same country as you. Have you forgotten that Australia has forces in Iraq? Have you forgotten about the Bali bombings? You are ignorant. Go and read. America, England, Spain, Australians in Bali etc have all been targets. Your knowledge of the situation is elementary. The people you are attacking on this forum did not invade iraq. there govt did. there's a difference
Brilliant piece! It shows graphically and definitively the outcomes of letting a bunch of bean-counting money-grubbing, penny-pinching Republicans run a war ... they spend BILLIONS to suibsidize Halliburton's screw-up in Iraq, and send the GIs in without decent body armor, vehicle armor or training to deal with the situation.
I remember reading about a Pentagon study about a year ago that said about 80% of Iraq combat deaths could have been prevented by the better armor. I can't remember the link now but I think it was the NY Times.
Get rid of the Interceptor vests and replace them with Dragon Skin (Not fantasy-fiction, but the brand of armor). Sure its three timres more expensive but at least its better than Interceptor with its damn SAPI
Soldier(Army) were buying the Dragon Skin on their own when they had a shortage of Interceptor vests and the Army would reimburse them for a while, but they stopped doing that after a little while. Now if they want that stuff, it's all out of pocket, but their unit/command won't necessarly let them use it. They won't let us do that in the Marines
When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains
And the women come out to cut up your remains
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
And go to your Gawd like a soldier.
The military has been underfunded and underequipped for a long time and now we're seeing the results. Given the right equipment a lot young men and women would still be alive. Again the soldiers are betrayed by their own goverment.
i agree that the insurgents see us as invaders, but if you checked your facts the majority of them are not iraqi at all, but immigrate to iraq soley to kill us and our allies.also im sure you realize that these "natives" cause well over 10 times the casualties to iraqi civilians every day than they do to us.
I have talked to lots of guys that served, and you wouldn't believe all the old stuff they have to keep using. No common sense, they spend billions on high tech aircraft, but won't spend a couple hundred on a jacket.
This ad was created by veterans.. they know what they're talking about. (Check out their website--votevets.org) From a VoteVets letter:
"The ad features an Army Reservist named Peter Granato, who was sent to war - like thousands of others - without the right body armor. Pete and so many other Guard and Reserve members were given Vietnam-era flak jackets, which did absolutely nothing to stop the piercing bullets from the AK-47s that Iraqis fired at us." (cont'd..)
"In April, 2003, as Peter Granato was fighting in Iraq with a useless flak jacket, Senator Mary Landrieu offered an amendment, which would have provided a billion dollars for the procurement of equipment for the Guard and Reserve - including modern body armor. Senator George Allen voted to kill that amendment. When the troops needed George Allen,...he failed us. Our ad sheds light on this shameful vote, and urges Virginians to vote against him, just as he voted against us, the troops."
dude you trust your government way too much. Your country is run by corporate greed. wake up. 'seems to me' that you have been irretrievably brainwashed by your govt to believe the smiles and lies

hey listen. ak47 isnt modern weapon but now it armed with the new 7.62 uranium shells. any modern weapon armed with old rounds is not deadly as modern rounds. but anyway i prefer wearing high impact kevlar armor, its bullet proof for all rounds except grenade. flak jacket will tear if it shot by teflon rounds

Simon, doesnt matter HOW MANY times he shot the "bad" armor. The fact is, the "bad" armor is a FLAK VEST, NOT INTENDED TO SUBSTITUTE for ARMOR.
tankerrobM1a1 4 years ago
You are correct that it's not a substitute, but this is the ONLY armored vest many of the first 2 OIF rotations of US Nat'l guard/reserve Soldiers were given (that's 2 years) to defeat bullets or IEDs. Know what you speak about before you speak out.
nholt769 4 years ago
Although im not sure about if its real all i know is he shot the bad jacket four times and the new jacket twice, hence it not being a fair test...
simonchristophershor 4 years ago
Therefore the new armour is a minimum of twice as efficient, based on IF the other two shots penetrated, which they probably wouldn't have done.

And...hmm you said "this is modern body armor for TODAYS WEAPON" Ehhh did you know that Ak47 means that it was first made in 1947 you bitch? So...modern weapon? Ak-47? I dont think so...
000antos 5 years ago
ur a dumb shit. you have no clue what you are talkin about. the ak is the most common weapon because russians supplied it to everybody, and yes, the weapon is more modernized than say, the garand. its about as competitive as the M16/M4, just not as accurate and slower rounds. but just as deadly if you know how to use it. the prob is your arab friends are retards.
EyeH8Izlum 4 years ago
a, and the first vest, that can stop the 7.62 its the actual us forces vest, and other thing that ak is one sport version
samyibn 5 years ago
this boy is lieing, the second vest isnt vietnam war era vest, its us army 80,s and 90,s vest, and i think too like others that he didnt put plates in that vest
samyibn 5 years ago
Uhh so why do they use armor incapable of stopping AK-47 rounds?
lin2k4 5 years ago
One was balistic armor and the other was just a flak jacket dude!
jrm39759 5 years ago
I know but why do they use it?
lin2k4 5 years ago
man, that one vest was a current issue PSAGT flak vest, the vietnam vest are made of cotton with steel plates. I happen to have both in my collection
Shotgun28 5 years ago
The "old" vest you refer to is a flak jacket. I has no place for plates wasn't meant to have plates period. I hapen to have one as well as the othe point blank vest and a level IV A vest as well. Been over to Iraq 3 times a civilian.
jrm39759 5 years ago

jennymadrid 5 years ago
I wonder who did the loads for that AK b/c soft body armor wont stop a rifle round. You need level III or IV hard plates.
4ws0m0 5 years ago
the first one was a flack jacket and it did not stop the rounds. the second armor was ballistic armor and they have IIIA and IVA plates for them. My guess is it had a minimum of IIIA since it did stop the rounds. Those plates are made to stop 7.69 ball ammo and multiple strikes from 3 to 10 strikes. AK's aren't that accurate. Get your facts straight buddy.

By the way, I wonder if Granato was actually kicking in the doors or checking his e-mail in the rear!

oh and by the way...if you were with military intelligence then you were FAR from being a frontline soldier. So don't imply you were throwing grenades and eating bullets, because I'm too smart for that bullshit.
dmk1979 5 years ago
if you don't believe me, search 'Gunners Palace'. Wisen up.
dmk1979 5 years ago
lol, THAT WAS A DEBUNKED NEWS STORY. the un uparmored HMVV was in KUWAIT not IRAQ. The HMVV wasnt uparmored becuase THEY WERE FLYING IN not driving. lol you got JUKED

It seems the libs have been sucked into a lie.
exspyguy 5 years ago
That's not a lie, actually. Troops were promised better body armor, superior to the Vietnam-era vests they were initially issued. But most of them haven't received them. You shouldn't be so quick to label statements as liberal bullshit, because in the mid-east, soldiers are dying because of the fact you deny.

exspyguy 5 years ago
Just because some people happen to have the right armor does not mean this is a lie. It was well documented that many units were shipped to Iraq with body armor so inadequate that their families and friends were buying it for them. How do you even know that the guy you saw take the hit got his armor from the Army and not from his parents? Don't talk about looking at a video. Talk to people who've served over there, especially the ones who went over in 2003 and 2004.
Catzmaw 5 years ago
The troops have been getting better armor, but most still don't have it and were definitely deployed without it. Often, family members go shopping online and mail (at their own expense) better body armor to Iraq. The video you are showing is of one lucky guy. Many others have not been as lucky. Go back to your right-wing day dream.

ZenduZendu 5 years ago
good point, but it only goes to show that
A) The AK was a weapon far ahead of its time and is still one of the most effective rifles being used today.
B) The body armor manufactured to counteract its effects at the time were not effective and still aren't.
There are hundreds of issues to debate over for this election. I'm glad Webb and the people supporting him are sticking to them. Allen might actually win if he stops kicking himself in the ass.

So.... you're saying that the armed forces (main force, reserves, and national guard) could not afford body armor with only the $87 billion appropriation?
I think the ad is misleading for stating that Sen. Allen was willing to sacrifice troops by not providing them with enough funding.
stwendeler 5 years ago
The amendment Allen voted against was specific to the Reserves and would, while not specifically earmarking it, have given them funding for upgrading their body armor. This was additional funds for the Reserves and Allen could have voted yay on this and the $87bil. Whether stwendler's misleading post is intentional, folks should be careful that they have the facts straight before accusing the vets behind this ad of lying.
playjurist 5 years ago
Turns out that this is just a misleading ad. Allen voted to table an amend to a bill that would have given $1B to the armed forces going to Iraq (vote # 116 of 108th Congress, 1st session). Instead he voted for (vote #125) an $87 billion extra appropriation for the military.
It's important to note that neither bill specifically mentions "body armor" or flak jackets in the text - not even "armor". How the money is spent is left to the military according to their needs in the field.

Neither did I! I thought it would only slow down the projectile to minimize damage. I would like to see who did the loads on those rounds hitting the newer vest.

This reminds me of Kipling's poem:
When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains
And the women come out to cut up your remains
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
And go to your Gawd like a soldier.
The military has been underfunded and underequipped for a long time and now we're seeing the results. Given the right equipment a lot young men and women would still be alive. Again the soldiers are betrayed by their own goverment.

This ad was created by veterans.. they know what they're talking about. (Check out their website--votevets.org) From a VoteVets letter:
"The ad features an Army Reservist named Peter Granato, who was sent to war - like thousands of others - without the right body armor. Pete and so many other Guard and Reserve members were given Vietnam-era flak jackets, which did absolutely nothing to stop the piercing bullets from the AK-47s that Iraqis fired at us." (cont'd..)
sunsetdivingbird 5 years ago
"In April, 2003, as Peter Granato was fighting in Iraq with a useless flak jacket, Senator Mary Landrieu offered an amendment, which would have provided a billion dollars for the procurement of equipment for the Guard and Reserve - including modern body armor. Senator George Allen voted to kill that amendment. When the troops needed George Allen,...he failed us. Our ad sheds light on this shameful vote, and urges Virginians to vote against him, just as he voted against us, the troops."
