Much better then many players. Not so fast like Jung Lin and with much more passion and respect for Chopin. After Valentina Igoshina this is the next best performance.
Brilliant performance, very sensitive and played with feeling. I do prefer Jung Lin's interpretation, much faster tempo similar to the greats (Horowitz, Hoffmann, Gilels) and she plays with surreal passion and more intensity, only my opinion. :-)
I agree with MrFreddyKempf and Gospel. He has passion and plays naturally the piece. The music flows like a river on his hands. And I would like to question what are your opinions about Valentina Lisistsa?
Man this might be the best interpretation I've heard. Bunin plays the second section so well. Its full of life and has direction, perfect rubato, like Chopin himself would be playing. Most other versions of the second section can drag and be boring, this version really grabs your attention.
@funfor1life "Kissin,Lisitza"????????My dear ,you do NOT unterstand anything in music, when you are seriously comparing these pianists.....Excuse-moi,your ignorance is obvious.
@Vije4ka He wasn't comparing the pianists talent, he was merely listing Russian pianists. No reason to be condescending and tell someone they don't understand anything about music, especially when you entirely misunderstood their post.
I'm inclined to believe those who go around saying others "understand nothing about music" are the ones who clearly don't understanding anything about music, because they obviously don't know music speaks to people differently.

I saw him play about 20 years ago. He played Chopin with the most romance and feel. I love his interpretation of Chopin. He seemed very shy and dreamy between pieces, very endearing.
@grooveman69 There is the theory that he thought it was too close to a study by Moscheles - but in that case it is an elaboration which takes a scaffold and rebuilds it into a palace :-)
Of course it resembled the moonloght sonata, Chopin intentionally used the descending stream of notes from the end of the 3rd movement of the Beethoven sonata at 0:14 to 0:16 in the video.
This dude is crazy-sick! Brilliant piece written by one of the most gifted composers ever to walk this planet. As for his interpretation and body language, I think he's calling upon all that is in him to execute this piece with passion and vigor. As a listener, I have more appreciation for his performance knowing he's completely in the moment. He's giving all of himself during this performance, just as I'm sure Chopin did when he composed it. Bravo!
Igoshina played this piece with delicacy and softness, but Bunin shows more passion and strength. I prefer Bunin's since this piece is called "Fantasie" Impromptu, and it is supposed to be Allegro Agitato.
really? Bunin's interpretation includes a lot more dramatic changes in tempo and strength. Igoshina is rather holding the emotions to a certain limit, making her performance sound like she is trying not to lose herself in the avalanche of emotions. But Bunin lets it out.
Yeah, maybe, but I have the feeling that it's NOT supposed to be let out. Igoshina gets close to the line, but she doesn't cross it. I think Bunin does that.
well, you may be right. I'm rather used to the east European style that is more explosive and more open expression wise. Since this impromptu is one of the later works when he was in France, the environment must have affected his style of composition.
Do you play any instrument? I think you'd understand if you do. Even I, who has only played piano for a little more than two years, have to incorporate all the emotions possible in a recital or even an audition. I get to play(or practice) the piece hundreds and thousands of times before I actually go up on the stage, but I don't think that affects how I show my emotions within the piece in any way. And I believe it is even more so with professional musicians.
I'm not saying I don't like Igoshina's interpretation. I just prefer Bunin's over hers. I've listened to Igoshina's far more than I did Bunin's. I love Igoshina's smooth touch; I can even feel her love and care. Bunin and Igoshina are both fantastic pianists.
listen to Yundi Li's interpretation of this--it's MUCH faster and with less rallentando. Both very musical interpretations. Personally, I prefer Li's. Though this is a romantic piece, I think Bunin overuses rallentando and the music feels interrupted at times, and then suddenly sped up. Yundi, on the other hand, is mesmerizing O_O.
his mustache suggests he has a collection of snuff porn in his basement but his skills suggests that he's never had the time to watch any of them from practicing piano lol. anyways, great performance!
Yah he does play very expressively, but that's important. You can't be stiff when you're playing. Piano is like dancing, you just have to let go and flow.
Humm...idk about "showy" I mean...while playing he really looks into it, i don't think he means to show off at all nor be concerned with what the public thinks as hes playing it. Nice job. I still prefer the 'Mills' interpretation. More authentic. Chopin was dealing with his nemesis Liszt, although his prime areas (chopin), would be in his melodical skills, at the time he composed this piece he was still a teen trying to 'one up' his rival Liszt. ..Mills playing probably best repesents the performance he invisioned.

Stan dear, you just blow my mind with this kind of playing.
As the saying going in some cultures: "If you don't play Chopin, you don't play the piano." You are the PIANIST!
Chopin being my favorite I hear his music often but few moved me the way you did with this performance of a much favorite among many people!
God's richest blessings upon you and hope your wonderful playing will inspire more people to learn the piano and cultivate the classics!
