Without doubt the best S.K book (in my humble opinion, and I've read them all) is THE DARK HALF. I read it at 23 and slept with the light on for 6 months!!
Also, GERALD's GAME - A whole book based on a woman handcuffed to a bed, psychologically frightening!
dreamcatcher's a good book. i read it at the end of my pregnancy, and then when i was in labour it was on tv and i didnt know it, i was watching it and was like, hey, i think this is the book i just read. i couldnt watch it tho - i own it now lol - but omg so graphic
He is definitely my favorite author. I just finished Christine- awesome, chilling and now im currently reading The Stand, its getting better and better as i progress.
Man oh man. Pet Sementary. By far his sickest scariest demented book!!!! It's not his best writing though. The shinning is his best book i think. But man oh man pet sementary is the shit!
Pet Cemetery was my favorite. It is a slow buildup to the climax. If you like to watch him set up the dominoes for a few hundred pages just so he can knock them down, you will enjoy it.
Stephen King is the Charles Dickens of our time. His books are all horror, either, which many people don't know, especially those who haven't read him. He's an amazing writer. Think of Misery - suspenseful but not horror. Same with Stand by Me, many more. Love him.
people should stop making fun of stephen king on his videos. Greatest writer ever. The Stand was my fav, i only read the edited version, with 823 pages, but i heard the unedited is much better.
Great writer! I don't know if he's the gratest, but he's amazingly good. Said that I had a particular reason to be grateful to Stephen King. He was my first and best english teacher.
Love stephan kings books and his short stories =] i plan to read ever single on of his books. So far my fav is CUJO second fav is Pet Sementary third The shinning. O ya and out of short stories read "the man in the black suit" best short story ever.
In my fucking country you can find gust some books wrote by him ,for example : the Dark Tower doesn't exist. I read just 6 titles :(. This man is a genius and i like his voice :)))
Stephen King is a brilliant author and IT was amaising; I couldn't put it down! But the film was dissapointing in places. The Shining was very good to, as was Carrie and frankly all of his books! I would seriously recomend you read IT. Also, it's amasing how a man of his age survived that with such a good recovery. His is honestly my favorite author along with Torey Hayden.Oh, and he is NO where NEAR a kid author, he scared the hell out of me.
The Dark Tower is his best novel series. I love them I am on the final book it is like watching a movie practically. You completely go into the book itself and forget about the world around. Many people say Stephen King is a kid author- and he is not the best. But he is very readable, unlike some very great authors who have a great language in their books but the books themselves are SOOOOO boring.
I hate to say this but Dostoievsky is also in that category. I mean, I tried reading the guy with love and everything but it bored me to death. Maybe I had to switch to something of my century, like King, or Grisham, stuff like that.
I love Stephen King's voice for some reason. I'm reading his book Insomnia right now, haven't read Dreamcatcher yet, hope to soon, it sounds like a very interesting book.
And the pen thing, I don't get how a pen can fascinate you more than a person's ability to write by hand for hours. I've written by hand before and it hurts a lot, who cares about the stupid pen?
soontobehorrorwriter: I am guessing you have never used a fountain pen. Right? Cuz, if you had, you would know that they are not as easy to use as more modern types of pens. I'm gonna be 51 this year, and have not touched a fountain pen in at least 40 years. It's a legit point for the interviewer to emphasize, IMHO.
Bryant Grumble doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. He's amazed at the type of PEN S.K. used? Are you kidding? Write by hand for longer than two hours and then tell me how easy it is to write 700 pages.
Another question was could he swap the ledgers...Are you shitting me? It's a story, not a news article.
Another great reason Gumble is no longer interviewing people that matter. Stick to football players, Bryant. People with brains are too much for you.
The mist was a good movie the alien monsters scared the shit out of me when I saw it in theatres, Mostly because I knew what was coming after reading the book, which is another thing I like It had the books story and more of an ending.
I love stephen kings writing,I just started reading his novals and I love to read stephen kings books, I read IT,carrie, the mist, pet sematery, and the shining
Well, I don't know about "Dreacatcher," but "Dreamcatcher" actually isn't. Of course, if you think of it as an alien story, you'll be very disappointed, but it's more of an analysis of the human mind and its capacity of survival.
You're right, I need spellchecking. Mr. King is also my favorite writer. However, Dreamcatcher did not hold my interest after the first 200 pages. A lot of the characters are too fake to care about, particularly the military leader. He's a cardboard cut out!
I agree it's not one of his best books, though. Probably because he didn't write it in a word processor and he was recovering from his accident, but well, I still liked it, and even if I hadn't, I don't think I would've called it stupid. Any book, as dumb as it may be, has its efforts, I suppose.
Honestly, You've made me rethink my position on a lot of late S.K. books because they were written after his tragic accident, and perhaps the later works should be MORE reverred because of his herculian comeback.
I thought Dreamcatcher was very entertaining, and well written...and of course, hilarious.
