If any of you guys are fans of UDON, the studio that does most of the non-Japanese artwork for Capcom and publishes most of the English translated artbooks, I suggest getting their book "Vent" like I did. It doesn't show any works from any of the games, but you get to see the process on how the artists that do artworks for those games.

Artwork is so important. Though it bothers me that artbooks are so rare around here..

And it bothers me that the metroid series, and especialy the Legend of Zelda series never got a decent artbook. If there are game series that needed so much depth, it where deffinitly those.

I had no clue there was a Parasite Eve artbook I am a big fan of the original game I never got PE2 during its haye day but I recently purchased it last year I've yet to play it but obviously have plans to. also I have the Tekken art book, Street Fighter Tribute, and both Vampire Hunter D art book as well as Dawn the final Fantasy artbook also Udon is the sh!t and they release great products buy all their stuff so they make more also check out SF20 20 yearsof Street fighter

I've got a few small art books that came with game preorders like Makai Kingdom, but I've really been wanting those Mega Man Complete Works books for awhile now, I just haven't gotten around to getting them yet. Parasite Eve was a very well designed series. The monsters wear something else, especially the human face bird walking monster in PE 2. It is a shame they didn't make another one on the PS1 or PS2.

I always liked FF Tactics, Vagrant Story and FF12 artwork. That team always had awesome designs. I have the strategy guides, but no art books.

I love art books. I myself am an artist and I constantly design my own characters and renditions of existing characters. I have a couple like MGS3, Persona 4, Final Fantasy and Fable. I really do want more though. Great stuff guys.

Before I list some books -- great vid. I love gaming art books, and the old-school Game Cave ads in the old GameFan magazine are what opened my eyes up to them (my first ever was Capcom Illustrations). Other books of note: Oxide 2 (Kim Hyung Tae, of Magna Carta Fame), Range Murata has some beautiful artbooks (of Power Instinct series, Matrimelee), Masamune Shirow's Intron Depot 1 through 4 books, Cacpom Design Works (import book), there's a few for now. Great work.

Dragon Quest has the biggest discrepancies between the artwork and the game;the game looks pretty awful (except the slimes and the battle backgrounds);the artwork itself is amazing :).

My two favorite art books (and actually the only two art books I think I own outside of stuff given away with preorders) would be Revelations Persona: Shinshu Ueda Illustrations and Sega Video Game Illustrations.

The Sega one is pretty damn awesome, lots of cool cover art from back in the 16 bit era, and most if not all of it is in english as well.

And I think the Mega Man, Final Fantasy, and Phantasy Star books are awesome but won't ever own them. I like the art book of Wild Arms that comes with Wild Arms 5, but nowhere near the level of other art books.

Thanks for this great episode. As a artist and designer myself, I love seeing the art behind the work in game. I myself have a great book called Oxide 2. It is the artwork of Hyung Tae Kim, the lead artist on Magna Carta and War of Genesis. His art style is so rich and fluid it bring the characters to life.
