Honestly not hating, but can some one please explain the appeal of Jeff Beck? This really is not impressive. Neither technically, emotionally or creatively.
...and Beck & Clapton & Page all grew up in fairly close proximity. I've see all in concert several times and it was always worth 100x the money. Esp. Beck....amazing.
@pcmaranha1 You don't think Page isn't as good as Beck or Clapton? Dude, he's fucking at their level if not hight, Beck was even and influence on Jimmy, Jimmy influenced Beck. Fuck are you smoking?

@flamencoprof well actually i can't find any videos of Jimmy soloing in like the last 10 years... i even saw a thing with other guitarists soloing and joe perry totally handed it over to him and there was just this empty space of him continuing on the rhythm and they just ended it..
@betttola Other way around my friend. Beck was wanted by Pink Floyd (too in awe to even ask him to join) & The Stones. He has worked with everyone from Roger Waters< Mick Jagger, & Jon Bon Jovi to Wynonna, Cyndi Lauper, & Luciano Pavarotti. He is IMHO the most versatile as his own career has spanned various genres. Beck GOAT
@betttola Too bad the "God' had to steal the intro to "Bolero" and put it in "How Many More Times" and not even credit JB...one of his closest friends. Of the first three zep albums 90% of the songs were written by other people that were never credited, actually Page took credit for writing them. This was not cool. Doesn't take away how incredible of a player he was..just as a writer..not so much. Stairway to Heaven is also stolen.
@gl797 Page performed on the studio version, he also claims credit for its compostiion and was not crediteed ont he original, Who knows what the case is, if they wrote it together or was it just Beck or just Page, He definetly didnt steal it if he was a co wirter or writer. But he has stolen some shit loads of riffs thats for sure but this one may actually be his or part his, so it deffo aint as bad as the thieving of Davy Graham or Bert Jansch that he did.
@theblahman Good point. What's strange is imo the songs that he actually did write (Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand for ex.) are some of the best songs ever recorded. I think Zep may have been coerced a bit by greedy record execs., and once they realized that they were bigger than the label they took total control.
@OpethTheater3 That's one side of the story, the other side is a song named "Taurus" by the band "Spirit", Listen to it, it was recorded before "Stairway to Heaven".The kicker is that "Spirit" backed up "Led Zep" and played the song on stage. There's lots of info about this on YouTube and Google. Please don't shoot the messenger people..I don't like it anymore than you do.
@gl797 common riff pal .. spirit got it from davey grahams cry me a river .. do some research first asshole.. and even crows "thoughts".. page added an ascending melody and made the riff beautiful.. its boring as fuck in the others.. long live the mighty zeppelin!

I don't have any problem with Jimmy Page..he is one of the top 3 guitarists of all time imo. Every song that they did re-do is easily the best version of it.
@gl797 yea but you are speaking the obvious.. kashmir is to me the finest riff ever recorded.. the problem is you are looking at videos that i admit have some truth to them because of peter grant more than anything BUT the people that love to hate zeppelin are going to hate and are going to put up examples for things like stairway that are a ton more complicated than simply taurus.. its lazy as well to not research more on the issue..
@Gettheledoutstyle Fuck the haters. I love Led Zep..it's between them and Sabbath for me. Don't let the haters waste your time, nothing will ever stop them. If people can't see the genius of Zep..especially Jimmy Page, then ..screw 'em.
The Jeff Beck group was thinking of names for the band at which time Keith Moon, (the percussionist from The Who) was heard to say that the whole thing would go over like a "lead zeppelin." Jimmy Page can play what ever guitar he wants to and with who ever he wants to. He was a master in the studio, and Jeff Beck was also a wizard, as is Tal.
thought he used a 12 string acoustic on the studio verion of stairway and a telecaster for the solo either way i think its an ugly guitar les paul would have been a better choice
I wonder if Jeff's fingers have any joint problems. I could try to play with such intensity myself...but...my flesh will say 'f^&k off' after a few seconds and they will open up and spit blood at me...literally speaking. ^^ I wish he uses some picks again in a few songs.
omigod, Page is using one of those ugly Fender twelve-strings - the only other performer I've EVER seen using one was Johnny Winter at Woodstock, but he strung it with the standard 6 strings only - hmm, maybe they're good for something, easier to play with a wider neck -
Somebody was belittling Eric Clapton saying he was'nt in Jimmy Page and Jeff Becks league. As someone who was around when these guys appeared on the scene I can tell you that was the more influential guitarist. Before Clapton raised awareness of the blues through his albums with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Cream by ampiing it up with Marshall stacks it was little known by white audiences. Suddenly the coloured players in the US started to make money and were finally recognised. Esp Hendrix.
@franklinrwful the problem with jeff beck is that he screwed his only chance to be in a great band. had the first incarnation of the jeff beck group with nick hopkins, rod stewart and ron wood never broken up, it could've been as huge as Led Zeppelin themselves.
@franklinrwful the problem with jeff beck is that he screwed his only chance to be in a great band. had the first incarnation of the jeff beck group with nick hopkins, rod stewart and ron wood never broken up, it could've been as huge as Led Zeppelin themselves.
Jeff Beck is a highly technically skilled guitarists guitarist who has'nt had the same level of success and fame (outside the world of guitar nuts) as Jimmy Page who is a innovative and versatile composer and player who's music has much more immediate appeal. They are both brilliant in different ways. Personally I would love to see them both. As Led Zep dont look look like getting back together how about it guys?
@franklinrwful the problem with jeff beck is that he screwed his only chance to be in a great band. had the first incarnation of the jeff beck group with nick hopkins, rod stewart and ron wood never broken up, it could've been as huge as Led Zeppelin themselves.
I respectfully disagree. Jeff Beck IS a great band no matter who he plays with. While all the other guitar greats tend to lose their abilities with age to some degree, Jeff keeps getting better and better.
@purpledave100 That's because Page is a band guitarist with no band. Beck is a solo guitarist, and he has fingers. So it's obvious who is better off at the moment.
If I didn't know what the dust really means I would say Beck was taking a strip off of Page by annihilating his rendition with this one. Freakin rips away into aural Stratosphere.
Like Hendrix that guitar was built for Beck. Page on his best day could not top this work. Sorry just saying. And I was a Led fan in my day. But seriously Beck goes beyond. Just rocks.
Jeff Beck, previously of the Yardbirds, (of which Clapton was a member) puts Eric Clapton where he belongs...in the catagory of extremely good musicians who nevertheless, revere their betters. This includes, most emphatically, Jeff Beck. If my style of writing leaves anyone wondering what the hell I'm talking about, it's that Jeff Beck kicks Clapton's ass, minus the drama over women. Jeff Beck, Jeff Beck, Jeff Beck!
my boys were so exited metalica was being induct, there old fart of a dad had been telling them about jeff beck there whole lives like most kids they thought there dad did know squat, until matalica had to follow this act.and then listen to each matalica member give homage to MR.BECK probably one of my best days in a long time LOL
One of my all time favourite songs....... Btw, it's an honour they are friends and respect one another so much to jam together after so many years. I love this. THANK YOU for posting this. I wish, I wish I could go see him again.

@Luxmaxnike
I respectfully disagree. Jeff Beck IS a great band no matter who he plays with. While all the other guitar greats tend to lose their abilities with age to some degree, Jeff keeps getting better and better.

Jeff was always better, Jimmy was good but not amazing.

who is Jimmy Page, NO ONE could compete with Beck now.
purpledave100 3 months ago
@purpledave100 That's because Page is a band guitarist with no band. Beck is a solo guitarist, and he has fingers. So it's obvious who is better off at the moment.

essential beck

Decades of brilliant innovation, way out front, there's Jeff, charting the way.

Beck is one of those musicians like SRV, or Neil Young that plays for the LOVE of the music, not MONEY!
c7thcavalry 3 months ago
Jeff is somewhat chamanic on his style... when I think about a musician who just loves and feels what he's playing, this guy comes to my mind
