  • how much is it ?

  • @Mo3run Checkout the website for the latest price, mark III arriving soon.

  • Where is this made and will it work with a Nikon SB-800/900? Also, do you ship to the US?

  • @HighSierraBob It does work with those speedlights but its only available in Europe.

  • What's the best way to trigger the external flash? I have a 420EX and a T2i

  • @shalukuttan You need a wireless trigger there are many on the market.

  • hello, i want to buy a softbox but i really want a flash like yours, but i don't know the name of it, can you write to me?

    thank you

  • @emmyfairyswispers Gavin uses Canon gear so either 580ex or 430ex but use a flash that is compatible with your camera.

  • Sponsored by.. who was it again? Ah yes, Micansu.

  • @bruvvamoff Err... No! Sponsored by smick.co.uk

  • @smickphoto I guess you just like saying Micansu.

  • fantastic mate

  • Thanks for the video, I am ordering that softbox. It is just as good as the Lastolite, and it costs about 1/4 of the price! Actually I think I will order 2 of them!

  • great video, thanks!

  • Just what I was looking for. Great tutorial! Thanks

  • Great tutorial!

  • I can't see myself taking this on family picnics. Well, I could, but the missus would be less than amused.

  • Hi Gavin,

Very good tutorial. I have a question: Can you use lightsphere instead of softbox and will it get the same result ?

  • @whanauli Hi You won't find Gavin here he is over at his own channel Photogavin

  • Such a wonderful video Gavin... Best regards from Venezuela mate!

  • Nice one Gavster

  • What the potency of this flash? Can you tell me if the SB400 or SB900 can have a good performance in daylight with a octabox? I'm sorry If you said in the video, but english is not my mother language and sometimes I loose some information. Thanks again!

  • @IsisMqs He is using a 580EXII which is the Canon top of the line flash so SB900/sB800 would be the Nikonista equivalent. As for performance of a flash in broad daylight in an octabox - you are using the flash to fill in the shadows not overpower the sun so any flash should do, especially if you keep it close to your subject.

  • cabrau.com

    StudioCabrau, in Brazil

    iLoved !!!

  • You sound and remind me of David Mitchell from the Peep Show... complement by the way :D - Love the tutorials :)

  • Another brilliant video thanks once again

  • I mainly watch this video because of his accent, facial expressions and hand movements.

  • great tuto, thank you !

  • are the other accessories like the brackets and that when you buy any softbox from smick.co.uk?

  • i like the first shot you did using the light the most :))

  • thanks for the vid, i really enjoyed it. Question though, what type WB settings should one have in this type of situation. Cloudy, custom, etc..?

  • @acuna13 If your shooting in RAW then its not to important

  • Hmmm... You're getting f16 with a 580 ex II at ISO 100 thru 2 diffusing panels? Even at 1 meter I'm quite surprised. Did you end up removing the inner diffusing panel? I would expect something between f5.6 and f8...

  • Thanks for sharing :-)

  • What would the settings be if you had an object in the background you wanted to be out of focus. With the f stop at f18 it would possibly be in sharp focus. ISO down as far as pos and speed as hi as poss will still give over exposure and fear of going over sync speed.

  • @gadge1275 Use an ND filter to reduce shutter speed

  • @gadge1275 i might be tired, but to get the background out of focus, wouldn't it be a bit better to turn f/stop all the way down to get the lowest depth of field possible? f.2 - high exposure and background out of focus, f.18 - a lot less light and exposure but pretty much everything in your picture will be in focus...

  • @gadge1275 f18 @1/250 in heavy overcast sky must mean he has a pretty high ISO, perhaps 800-1000. At ISO100 and same shutter speed you can open your aperture by 3-4 stops (approx f/4) and introduce a shallower depth of field. If you want to open it up further - 2.8 or less - you'd need a ND filter.... or high speed sync, if your camera has it.

  • Gavin is not part of smickphoto you will find him over at his channel PhotoGavin but the best advice I can give is to follow the video and then experiment yourself.

  • Hi Gavin, are you taking the reading on TV mode ( 250)and then switching to manual mode? did you remain with the reading when using the speedlite? thank you much!! Great products and videos!!

  • I bought it!! ^_^ THANKS for your great tutorials!!! :D

  • Q, did I miss you mention ISO preference? What do you reccomend in deciding ISO for a desired shot .i.e. in this case do you choose ISO first?

  • @Dubfire73 Choice of ISO is not so important depends on the ambient light and what result you want.

  • Thank God for people like you and videos like this. I purchased a pop up soft box just like yours but smaller. I bought it from a small shop 2 hours away from where I live. It came with no instructions and I could not figure out how to attach the frame to the box. Now I will not look like a door nob when I want to use it on my friends. Thank you.

  • god bless your daughter, when i ask mine to model she tells me she's playing farmville so, my bottle is full coca cola bottle lol

  • Thank Smick for your fabulous tutorial!

  • Would my 430ex ii be suitable with this softbox? thx..

  • @ibanezrg470 Yes it will work with your 430ex

  • your reviews are always the best!!!

  • How do you find the shutter speed sync speed for the flash

  • @KungFUcat10 The sync speed will be in your camera manual

  • @KungFUcat10 most cameras sync between 200-250th of a second, most of the pro cameras eg Nikon D3,D3s,D3X,D700,D300/D300 can sync up to 320th however in autoFP (focal plane sync) there's no limit, given your flash is compatible with highspeed sync

  • This one seems very reasonable priced in comparison to the competitors, and it has a swivel socket thingy. I wonder does it fall down on any points.

  • thanks gravin..:D

  • thanks Gavin - using the stobist techniques for a while but always struggled with the ambient vs flash equation - this really helped

  • Got mine delivered today

  • Thanks Gavin!!! Good Job.

  • Hey Gavin thank you for the tutorial. Is the smick 60 x 60cm stobist softbox only in UK? cuz im in Canada

  • @fmashqur Hi Sorry we only sell in the EU countries so this is not available in Canada

  • @smickphoto Do they ship this to US?

  • @fmashqur

It seems identical to the Lastolite 60 x 60 Hotshoe Ezybox, so if you can get Lastolite in Canada, you can get an identical product. Or try the Westcott Apollo Softbox, a very good 28 inch flashgun box.

  • Awesome

  • Great!!!
