The thing that people don't understand is that our God does not dwell on our sins. Our God sees us purely. We are sinless in God's eye. Why? Because Jesus died on the cross to take that sin away from us.
Universal salvation was for me a heresy, people pleasing idea until I saw passages like this.
Romans 5:19 "for as through the disobedience of the one man,THE MANY were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the one, shall THE MANY be constituted righteous."
If you take the book of revelation as the end of Gods plan then of course universal salvation would not make sense; but if you look at Paul's writings and see God will be "all in ALL" then you see love Never fails.
As a REFORMED street preacher, I resent Keller's judgement and over-generalization of a street preacher's motives. What if, like Jeremiah, he is just telling people what God has said in His Word? Will it always be soft and popular? No way! Look at what Paul called unbelievers in Rom. 1:18ff! "Gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil... foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless!" Open air preacher Peter called them "Messiah murderers" in Acts 2. Be careful.
@TheTruthCanHurt Jeremiah is calling God's elect nation to repentance and obedience to the covenant they have made with God... unbelievers are called to repent of unbelief and idolatry. Paul is speaking to believers in Romans 1 *about* unbelievers, but in Athens he speaks like Keller *to* unbelievers on the street in Acts 17. As one who has done a tiny amount of street preaching and evangelism, I've found it important to know your audience... speak to their particular form or area of unbelief.
@pietyhill You make some good points, but assuming you're reformed, is there really ANYTHING the evangelist can do - or not do - to stand in the way of God sovereignly bringing someone to faith? I believe in telling people the truth about how God sees them. Whether the context for His view was Christian or non-Christian isn't important to me; if it's true and in Scripture, it's fair game to be preached. Christians shouldn't have any "dirty little secrets" when it comes to the unbeliever.

The first guy complains " They tell us abortion is murder and that we're going to Hell for fornicating". Is it his position that abortion is NOT murder and that fornication does NOT send people to Hell? Then Keller says he quotes(?) from Jude but I can't find it there. I do see warnings against fornication in Jude, though. I think he grossly mis-represents the "street preachers" he's deriding. If they were allowed to speak, we would find they are not "self-righteous". But rather , ( cont)
are following the apostolic pattern of preaching Law to the proud, and grace to the humble. I would wager that the "street preachers" would be able to give a far more clear and thorough gospel presentation that Keller offers here.
@revulayshun Keller is not saying sin is ok. He's addressing legalism. He's merely pointing out that we are ALL sinners saved by God's grace so that no one can boast. Often people who just point out others sin come across as judgemental and arrogant. We must be careful to present the full gospel through love-the foundation of salvation - "For God so loved the world..." (John 3:16) cont
@MylesZoey Legalism? So the street preachers were telling people to get circumcised, then keep all the dietary and sabbath laws to be saved? I doubt it. I also doubt that they were boasting that they were somehow better than others. And they most likely didn't "just" point out peoples sins, but also used that as a foundation to preach future judgement, the cross, resurrection, repentance, faith, the new birth, and sanctification. But since we aren't shown what they said, we really cannot judge.
@MylesZoey Why not use the book of Romans as a pattern. Before Paul expounds on justification by faith alone, he spends 3 chapters talking about the sinfullness of all of humanity; from the heathen, to the religious Jew, to the moralist- and how they all stand condemned. Was Paul preaching legalism? Was he lacking in love or humility? Please listen to " Hell's Best Kept Secret" google it. You'll find it on sermonaudio
@revulayshun The book of Romans was sent to a mixed crowd of Jews and Gentiles, and seems to spend more time addressing the Jews' legalism so that "all are without excuse". The question is, what is the right contextualization for today's pluralistic USA. I think Dr. Keller hits it right.
@revulayshun Read more carefully. Keller quotes the NIV of Jude 22, "Be merciful to those who doubt" I agree that it's not the most clear and thorough gospel presentation - he does a better job in his full-length sermons.
I agree. Tim Keller is like a modern day prophet. He has the tone, timbre, and approach to the gospel that is absolutely perfect for our modern western culture. I wish this was on the front page of Youtube. Imagine that!
@LinkD3 I dislike this video however I am not depraved and I certainly do not hate (nor have any emotions toward) "God". To hate something that does not exist would be lunacy on top of lunacy.

There are good and bad street preachers. The good ones don't get as much attention.

Who would give this video low ratings!!!???
Man, Proof of total depravity and the fact that the human heart hates God the Gospel and Truth.
This video is AWESOME! Keller is the man.
Thanks for posting it
