I have a '91 Civic with 235,000 miles on it and I've never had to do anything other than change filters and oil. It runs great and gets up 38 mpg. I also had one with 312,000 but I sold it when my GF bought her 2004 Civic.
I have a '91 LeSabre with 231,000 miles on it, still drives like a dream. I've had to replace the starter, water pump, and repair a crack in the radiator, but other than that it hasn't given me a spot of trouble yet. Great cars, GM really needs to keep making these-the engines, anyway.
I had a 1988 Bonneville, the car ran great and everything worked, and then the tranny went at 351 000km's. I have a '92 with 268 000 and it runs great too.
My buick went to 80000 miles then the odometer started rolling backwards? I think it helped resale value but I never knew how many miles it really had.
As far as your transmission, you either got really lucky, or I had shit luck, bacause I had a 1991 Oldsmovile 88 and i went throuth the original tranny, and two rebuilt ones, and when i got rid of it it had 138,989 miles.
I really don't understand why people crap on American cars so much. All the american cars our family has ever owned were great. I will buy GM until I die - GM is my fave car company. My pontiac grand am just got to 60K with no problems and my old '90 buick regal got 200k on its original engine and tranny.
Shame that GM doesn't build them like this nowadays. My mother's got a Chevy Malibu that she just spent $2100 for a cracked head on at 47,000 miles. Write GM and tell 'em to stop building the cars in Mexico if they dont want to keep losing to Japanese cars. I remember our old 1978 Impala when I was a little boy. That was a wonderful car. We finally sold it in good condition at 180,000 miles.
I haven't gone through any transmissions. Albeit it doesn't shift as smoothly as it once did, but it still works just fine. The only repairs I've had to make is a water pump, and an alternator. I just love my Buick, and plan to purchase another one when this one does kick the bucket. A Lucerne or another Park Ave is in my future.
@will79601 My 92 Buick Park Avenue has 300+k On the original engine and transmission, and i still have it, although i jut recently purchased a 2010 Impala, Shelby, is still kicking, sttill chugging along like a little champ, so to all those that say GM can't have that many miles on them, think again..
@deltaboy767 yea I have a 97 riviera with a 4t65e transmision I got last night has burnt fluid and a whine to it but it still shifts perfect maybe it was the 440t4's they put in them till 89
@will79601 That is beacuse that is an electronic controlled tranny, which by the way is a very good tranny, have it flushed, asap, now my 92 has the TH4T60, which is an amazing tranny, and able to handle 400+ HP.
Though the transmissions on like Chrysler and Dodge SUCKS BALLS. My parent's Chrysler Dodge Caravan 1997 died at around 2005 or so. It was because of the transmission. I missed that van. It was the highest level for the model. And the stock audio in it was so good. 2 6x9 subwoofers and the rear. Two tweeters, 4 mids.
not many make it that far, my 93 buick died with 118 thou on it

Buick is the best of the GM cars with the 3800 motor, very underated!

to me it one of the best v6 engines to date.
lawtowngirl85 3 years ago
A good mix of power and fuel economy for its simple design. My father bought a Lucerne with the last of the 3.8s, the end of an era.

my 1996 park avenue runs like new, and it just floats like a dream when you drive it! by the way, it has like 170,000 on it.
