  • its funy how they only have one bass

  • That is what i call a shit hot Medley! Listen to that finish!! I've just been thunder struck.

  • They can whoop it up!!!!!!! Awesome Jim and Tyler are the best. But I l♥ve the whole band♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • just some wierd things i noticed about this vid...

not exactly standing in a circle are they?

and the first time i've seen a strathespey played that early in a medley. some very cool playing though :)

  • PLaying a strathspey that early used to be the norm

  • HAHAHA i love watching Tyler Fry smiling while he plays... sooo funny! 1:47

  • @coyotedib I find it kinda creepy

  • bautiful music very very good

  • one word: FUCKINAWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • freaking SICK medley

  • totally bitchen set

  • i think this is a winning medley. Has anyone heard of a band called kilsyth thistle pipe band?

  • hey that's my church

  • the best medley i've ever heard in terms of entertainment. inspirational sound.

  • It is nearly comparable to the 2007 Medley! Some of the musical elements you find in the 2007 medley also. Great performance! Great band!

  • yeah sorry about the skipping guys

  • the skipping killed me

  • best medley ever !!

  • ONE of the best pipe bands to ever grace gods earth and this set is well put together . the drum corps in my opinion are the best in the world alongside boghall and bathgate. both top quality drum corps cant wait to hear some new material.

  • I agree. Jim Kilpatrick has put together something pretty special. Tyler and his chums just keep on getting better!

  • Holy shizzle!! This band only gets better!

  • Nice performance...would be perfect if they'd BRING THEIR PITCH DOWN!!!!

Geez I hate the ultra-high pitch of the modern bagpipe...

  • I'm sorry i have to disagree. There pitch is awesome. i think they're set at about 472-474 right now. their chanters seem really balanced to me. Although i can understand the nostalgia that some people have towards lower pitches. their high a's are gorgeous.

  • There is no way a Grade 1 band is playing in the 472-474 range. That's where low-grade bands and soloists play.

They're playing closer to 480 there. They're even sharper now...close to 484. Before too long the pipes will be in the key of B-natural (A4=491 Hz).

The high pitch not so bad when you have tone blowers like these guys...I don't like it but they can pull it off. The lower grade bands can't pull it off, and a solo bagpipe doesn't sound good at that pitch either.

  • I think they play wooden Shepherd chanters (I'm pretty sure anyway) and Shepherd's chanters tend to tune in the 480 range unmodified.

  • I use a sheperd with a sheperd reed it tunes around A 473 and I do not carve the holes!

  • that makes sense. i just wasnt thinking of the right numbers. either way these can pull off this pitch well imho.

  • Comment removed

  • This guy know what he is talking about. Too sharp is not good at all.

  • Good to know you agree.

I aim for a target pitch of around 474 myself...I use a McCallum McC2 poly chanter w/G3 Apps reed. I also have a MacLellan Bb (A-466) chanter that I use for playing with other instruments or for piobaireachd.

    What's your target pitch/chanter/reed combo? I'm curious.

  • When I am playing solos I use a blackwood strathmore chanter with an apps reed as close to 473 as possible.

Our grade 3 band uses McCallum chanters with ross reeds at about 475

  • That's interesting. I've always heard that the Strathmore chanter is rather high pitched (in the 478-480 range with most reeds).

I guess a lot of it does depend on the reed, or do you have some tape all the way up the scale to flatten it off a bit?

  • I do have quite a bit of tape on it. I like the pitch lower for solos. Esp. for piob.

If the high g is to sharp it is just terrible.

  • See I like it as well. My McC2 pitches that low naturally...with just a bit of tape on C and E. It was designed as a lower pitched chanter, as per the specification of Willie McCallum.

  • I love this!!

    My dad's in this band!!

They are just lik and extnded family to me!

  • the G forces from Tyler's sticks cause his cheeks to move up, making him look as if he's having a great time. hhaha i love this band

  • Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy of the video? I want the actual video, not just the segment only here on myspace.

  • SUPERB

  • I have seen a lot of drum corps, especially SFU, because I live in the Northwest of the U.S., and I must admit that this tenor line is the most visually enjoyable to watch. The style used is incredible and well thought out to the written tonal tenors. I could watch this band all day long. Its nice to see a band that "shows" the performance as well as "plays" it. Very well done.

  • Very well played. Well put together. I love the way the slow sounds. Unfortunately such a good band has not been able to pull off another 1st 05' .

  • Tune played at 3:27 is one of my favorites, its called Reel Prelude. Awsome Medley.

  • OH YEAH!!! they got 1'st

  • does it skip on purpose?

  • who is the guy on the end of the snare line that bounces the whole time?

  • thats when you know that your playin. when your doin the dance. i get it every now and then

  • Willie Kerr, he's an awesome player.

    Darren.

  • listen to those d's

  • 3:30 to 3:40 the snare line is jammin
