You can all boo and hiss, all you want and call me a racist, but at some point in his career miles exceeded the velocity of Caucasian comprehension. funny valentine, we get it, bitches brew we don't get it ?!?!?! red necks that have that much rhythm are just the exceptions that prove the rule.
@Guitarkungfu I have no idea what he's what he's trying to say. I'm thinking he really doesn't know what he's saying. It was just another way for him to troll the net.
I think Miles only got his highest register in later life and you can hear the fact that he uses it it this recording. It's sort of like abstract expressionism stylistically, but romantic too. Same thng happened to me - player for 35 years before I could sear away up there. It's a knack. Chet baker never used it.
@jason - this is because of the 'print through' of the magnetic tape where adjacent tape on the reel takes some of the magnetism characteristics of it's neighbour.
Wonderful!!.........i have heart the version of Bill Evans of Funny V. where a adorable trumpet is singing ........i think thtat trumpet is Miles.....sounds Miles....sounds beautiful.....
I think someone overdubbed the trumpet part because I can hear a trumpet in the background that seems to be filtered out (almost) and oftentimes the trumpet part doesn't match the fingers. It sounds OK, but take a closer look and let me know what you think.
I don't tknow whether he patented this sort of feel but I love it. He seems completley free to take it wherever he wants and get as abstract or romantic, hot or cool, as he wants at will and they follow him.. Uses the full range of the instrument too. I'd call it romantic abstraction.
Didn't know about this recording and the others from Milan. Thanks for posting. The real deal ! I'd love to have been there back then, but I was only 2 years old and still in nappies!
Miles was and still is the man when it comes to jazz. Historically he picked outstanding musicians who later stand on their own.

@comprehensiveboy Interesting....thanks for that perspective. Maybe Chet didn't because he didn't play long enough, consistently.
