Given the fact that her painting that she contracts out for is art, or Italian style painting, I would then assume she does something more specialized than what some migrant worker would be hired to do, i.e. just slap straight paint on a wall. So I question whether or not they are actually taking work from her business, at least work that she would really want to do. I'm an artist and illustrator and I didn't quit my job to just laboriously cover walls with paint, and I doubt she did either.

I couldn't find my other comment -- but anyway I do understand her frustration about having to go through the licensing and tax rigamarole when others don't. I also agree that the government does need to be consistent about its policies and tax dollars.

First of all i do my own base coat painting, a skill set which is in direct competition with the day laborers. i pay and file for licenses in each county in which i operate, which is in accordance with the VA Dept of Labor. this pavillion creates a tax and license-free environment. if the illegals aren't required to spend $300 annually to have and renew their license, then neither should you nor I. i am happy to rescind my license only if the state will not prevent me from working.

I find this documentary very interesting -- I can understand her frustration of having to go through the legal rigamarole with her business whereas undocumented unlicensed workers aren't. I agree that the government should be consistent, instead of saying and posting one thing and looking the other direction in practice.

I'm from a small town in Eastern Ky and folks there are very passive. It is almost unheard of for communitys to take a stand and fight for their rights. Things would have to get to the point of no return before they move to action. Only real pain and suffering from illegal immigration would garner a negative responce. Thats why government funded organizations that help illegals break our laws find these places and ship illegals there.

my solution, aggressive workplace compliance checks. i'd authorize every government employee to be able to deal with immigration law. imagine how many we could catch if building inspectors were deputized. aggressively go after illegal employers and landlords. remove any and all access to government benefits funded by american citizens. they'll be leaving on their own. even if we were to pay to ship them all, i imagine its cheaper than 23 trillion dollars.
