Accanto di Vinay ,Nikolov ,Giacomini ecc...Hvorostovsky ha la voce di tenore leggero !Mi ricordo che Siepi, Ghuselev,Ghiaurov ecc... interpretavano Don Giovanni ...
One of the best rendition out there. Truly virtuoso performance. Incredibly textured without harming the 'full picture'. In this one, I discover details which others leave behind.
I like this tempo. I've never heard a baritone who didn't stumble over this at a higher speed. Sure Don Giovanni is supposed to be caught up in conquest, but lets be honest would he really have felt a rush? He thought he was pimpin' it...
this is honestly the only part of don giovanni i think terfel has an advantage over hvorostovsky. i think this is the only aria where a lighter voice makes a real difference.
Love it!! Is there a video of Dmitri singing Deh vieni alla finestra?? I would die to hear him singing that aria!! PLEASE post it if you have it. Thanks!
Just think about it: people who are interested in (male, at that) opera singers are probably NOT interested in a bunch of naked amateurs showing their stuff on webcams. If you have to post something like this, at least address it to people who may possibly be interested!
i dont like his voice as Don Giovanni its to deep in my opinion, for the role. hed be better cast as leporello. i prefer hampson (though not the version you get on you tube. thats horrible, no, when hampson was still younger he did it with harnoncourt in zurich and at met. Then he sounded just wonderfull!!!)
The aria is in B-flat and the highest note is E-flat. I'm surprised that folks don't know that this is the right rep for DH and not Verdi. He sounds quite good as Giovanni. And there's nothing at all wrong with this tempo as it lies well within the marking of "presto".
The tempo could be at least twice as fast. The "strange comfort" with the song might come from the fact that the highest note in it is an E, if I am not mistaken.
I'm not surprised you like this song than most of his other stuff. He's a true lyric baritone, and his voice is well-suited to Mozart. I wish he'd sing more Count Almavivas and Don Giovannis.
Strangely confortable with this song. I can't believe that he of all people didn't do a laugh at the end. If this DVD bussiness you talk about is correct that is such a Hvorostovsky/Cura thing to do. Actually I like this song better than most of his other stuff :P
'Finch'han dal vino' from Don Giovanni. I believe that a DVD was recently released - a special Don Giovanni in which Mr Hvorostovsky sings both Leporello and Don Giovanni. Should be interesting to see him sing duets with himself:) As usual, thanks for sharing!
I think Dmitri has the absolutely right timbre for Don G.

I love the tempo. And this is a concert performance, calling for DIFFERENT acting style, clearly.

he sounds so lazy. come on, he's planning a party-- he can't even muster up a little enthusiasm?

richiedrr - you are correct - Hampson's version of this, also available is nothing but barking and vastly inferior.

Slowest tempo ever heard, but he actually sings instead of barking, like most guys.
