@yuri12347 Pretty sure the Live service for the original xbox doesn't actually exist anymore. Someone feel free to correct me. Anyhow, when it was still around, yes you could still play with your legal games. You just needed a mod chip, like where I say about half way through vid when I turned my console on with eject button, the modchip wouldn't boot up, and it went to the original xbox dash. You would be banned if you tried while booted from modded dashboard though.

I was given an xbox with games and xbmc on it, so I guess it was modded. However I have no idea whether it was softmodded or modded with a chip. How do I tell?

@chenxiaozhu123456789 @chenxiaozhu123456789 That's a good question. It's been a while since I really used my console so there may be an obvious way to check that I don't remember, but otherwise, if it's chipped:

1. Turning the console on with eject button would load up the original MS dash so back then you could play legit games on live without getting a banned console

2. In my case, I could see a red light of my modchip through the sides of my consoles case

3. the xbox logo is blue on startup

Forget adding a mod chip guys. Softmodding is the way to go, exp since xbox live has nothing to do with classic xbox anymore. Its much easier and safer.

@universalGaMeR89 Bear in mind I posted this video 3 years ago lol...Hard-modded consoles can still be pretty handy, eg I just softmodded a mates console by using my modded one. Basically turned both consoles on, booted up AID on my console, then switched the IDE cables over between the hard drives in both our consoles while running. Then installed a hacked dash etc to his drive.Reason this worked is because his drive changed into an "unlocked" state after the initial boot sequence. Risky though

@danne249 dude you need to install a new dashboard on it then...I havn't used my modded xbox for a year or so now so don't know what's good these days but as I said in the vid, at the time AID (Auto Install Deluxe) was one of the best packages to put on a cd/dvd then install on your console....Do some research....

@danne249 The power cable can be tough sometimes...It's the same situation in a pc tho as it's the same connection....Obviously just don't try pulling it out by yanking the wires....Don't want them coming out of the socket plug...
