Thank you for posting. 'Everglades' is in my Top 10 records EVER. Might even be No.1. I sang this on 'Pot Of Gold' when I was a kid. Spent my childhood listening to The Best of the Kingston Trio, the Seekers & the Lettermen. Have made my career as a singer in a vocal group and these three (four) guys were such an inspiration. RIP Nick, John & Dave. Long live Bob. Love 'em!
I love this song. I mean I LOVE THIS SONG. But the reference to the Everly Brothers kind of spoils it at the end because its a serious song and not meant to get stupid at the end. Still my favorite version and one of my favorite songs of all time. Harlan Howard was a fantastic writer.
@clif19821982 - y'know Cliff, I always kind of agreed with your point, even 50 years ago wen the song came out. There is a dark irony in the song that you couldn't quite call humor, but the Everlys bit is gratuitous, even though the KT is (as others here note) using the EvBros intro from "Bird Dog." Didn't need that ending - but it's still just a great example of what made the KT so special. Those harmonies!
My first band was a Trio Cover Band--1960-63. I was 14. Always loved their music and attitude. Wonderful to learn something new--that bit about the Gibson Jumbo 12 and the Everly Bros. Makes great sense. Thanks.
I love this song, dad used to play it over and over on his 8-track (remember those) in his car. Oh the memories.. Congrats to the Trio on the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award tomorrow night (2-13-11)
Brings back great memories; I alway thinkof listening to their albums over and over on warm, sunny summer afternoons in my living room---I was high school age then!!
I havent heard this for so many years, but I remember it well. Love the lyrics. This was one of my Trio favorites in the Sixties. When we had so much good MUSIC on the radio. Great "more info" on your part, too. Thanks for posting, CompVid! I agree with EverlyLove, Dave Guard was the best!
Great Trio song which shows the deep, rich, booming voice of Dave Guard. I always missed the Guard years and never really cared for the solo voice of John Stewart although he was a great songwriter and an overall wonderful addition to the Trio. Of course, Bob Shane had a voice of gold and Nick's harmony was always precise(his solos were good as well).
Thanks for posting. I never knew who wrote this b4, been looking for a version I remember from childhood, done by Reno and Smiley. Funny I've remembered the lyrics to this for 35 years! Good to hear it again.
Glad you liked it MLM - one my favorites to,just a harmless little ditty, very well-performed. Fave guard is using a jumbo Gibson 12 string guitar here for the first time, BTW.

This song takes me back to my childhood, growing up in the 50's and 60's when my parents had several KT albums. Those were the days!

my buddy Peter A. pointed this next EVERLY BROTHERS JOKE out to me..
This song intro sounds exactly like The Everly Brothers Song: Bird Dog & Listen to the LAST sentence of this song....
on 2.10 minutes they sing Everlies instead of Everglades ....

Who can tell me which voices sing which verse?
I hear three voices :
1. ) Now, the posse went in and they came back out. They said he'll die and there ain't no doubt . . . .
2. ) Now, the years went by and his girl was wed. His family gave him up for dead.
But now and then the . . .
3. ) Now, he never heard the news on the radio. He was deep in the 'glades so he'll never know . . .
What sings Bob? What sings Nick? And what is the part from Dave?
Who can me tell that?
MusikHHClip 2 years ago
1) Posse - Nick Reynolds
2) Years went by - Bob Shane
3) Radio - Dave Guard
