  • Good Job...

  • I took me 39 years to realize that home made stuff has more character, is cheaper, and likely more durable. And if it breaks, which is usually doesn't, you can just make it again and usually better. Modern man has lost his way but some of us are getting back to our roots. Way to keep it simple yet elegant.

  • Whats up with those chains on your wrists. Did you escape from the loony bin?

  • 6:42 potty mouth. lol

  • I love that you made your own stove. It is so brilliant. But as winter is once again upon us I think it is time to upgrade mr. burns again.

It seems you might have a problem with air. Fire needs oxygen, and lots of it. The only way to get air into your stove is to open the door. Why not add an air vent to the stove?

The other thing you might want is to make use of all the hot unburnt gases that goes up the chimney. Add more air to that mixture and you can get a second fire and more heat.

  • Well.... actually there is an air vent. ....right under the door. Its been there for 5 years. :-P

As for the secondary combustion. ...I'm working on it. I have the parts..... just need to make it a priority.

  • excellent

  • How did you get the door to not leak smoke?

I'm working on making a barrel stove right now, and that is my only real concern... how to keep smoke from leaking out.

  • make sure your stovepipe goes up a lot. "They" recommend 11ft. Lots of stovepipe height will allow all that hot air to shoot up the pipe, and create suction in the stove.

Other than that, make all your connections good. Use stove gasket.

Oh, and it'll smoke a bit when you first start the fire... at least mine does.

  • Cool, thanks for the info! I think I'm going to make a vogelzang double barrel stove.

  • @hakachukai the smoke will take the path of least resistance.. so if your flue works like it should your door will not leak... downdraft should be your concern. Also the heat from the flame will naturally make the smoke rise... and of course the smoke itself is hot.. so on and so on... Do a burn with your stove outside first to see it things are working as they should.

  • this guy's voice and goofiness reminds me of bill nye the science guy!

  • Mr Burns? Excellent! @ 8:13.

  • 2:56 "Uh no, she doesn't have big enough bits!"

Don't let her hear you say that.

  • well done jamie

  • thanks! Ya, it works great. :-)

  • Smithers... Smolders...hmmmm...

  • heh heh

  • mr burns :)

  • Is it weird if.... I love Mr. Burns.?

  • Hmm do you have a video on how to make this :D

  • Oh... uhh... not really, although... its not that hard. I did give a bit of a run down in one of my videos... lets see.... its called

Dome Systems: Part 3 Heating and Cooling

Too bad I wasn't making video's when I originally made it. I do need another wood stove in the next couple months. I'll make sure I make it a "how to". :-)

  • are those lego mats? WIN!

  • Nope... they're foam puzzle piece mats, though. I think you're talking about the ones on the floor. now.... I do play with lego on them, so I guess at those times they are lego mats. :-)

  • ha ha. ya, it was oil from the drill bit. ...have to oil them so they don't get dull. It burned off the door pretty quick, though. :-)

  • Oh yeah - I shouldnt forget - The Robot - cant wait to see that baby up and running

  • Hey Jaimie, good to see your posting again, my wife has one question......we never see the end of the projects you start......like the banana building door....the pond.....the road....the workshop.....I guess watching you do stuff is better than TV - (which we dont watch cause we're you tube addicts) - damn you tube addicts! Oh yeah, we dont want to get too personal, but what did you do for work before going bush? to afford to live out there in the wild, also does your partner work?

  • I remember that tap! :D From when you were making the bits of metal that held the wheels to hold the large spider leg things in place as they moved... like... the track wheels things... after you abandoned the drawer-slidey things. Yes.

    You know what I mean.

I love that you call the stove Mr. Burns. LMAO. :D

    <3

  • Ya! Thats the tap. :-) I like mister burns too. he makes me laugh whenever I talk about him.

  • Nice design.

  • thanks! Ya, its been working really well.

  • Woah, you have chains on your hands.

You are starting to resemble Conan the barbarian even more :P

  • Ya... I wear stuff like that a lot to get stronger. That way I don't have to exercise on purpose too often.

  • Love Your chains!

  • Well, of course you love the chains. You're the5destroyer.

  • as in the fifth of the four horse men? im confused

  • well... I dunno. ask him. His name is the5destroyer! :-P

  • Cool latch idea, it shouldn't get hot... does it? Do you recommend attaching my door hardware with fasteners or welding them on? of course my pivot will have to be bolted on... but yeah, I don't want a smoker, not to sure if my stove will leak smoke with a damper, does yours have one? Also like your mountain bike, hopefully we can get some footage of you on it for us alternative transportation / self sufficient fans.

  • Doesn't get hot at all. :-) It works really well.

You could totally weld the hardware on. I spose that would be ideal. I only used screws, though, and the hinges I screwed on 3 years ago are still holding without any problems.

I guess I'll have to do a video of mountain biking in here too.

  • he doubled his wrist chains, and you can see the chain mail is under his shirt.

nice drill dooder. Mr. burns is awesome. i have a set of drill bits you can have too.

  • Ya. heh heh. Thanks for the drill! Its awesome. As you can see, I'm making good use of it.

OH OH! New drill bits! Mister burns smiles upon you.

  • Now that is a pretty sweet idea you have there man :D

  • thanks! Ya, its working great.

  • LOVE IT!

  • thanks! me too. :-)

  • This LatchBot started out looking not so awesome

Then it ended up working really awesome

    Thanks for sharing

and LoL at her having small bits

  • ha ha. Oh no... now you're reading even more into my jokes than I mean!

  • LOL who wrote upgraydding at the beginning?

still wearing chains on your wrists? I assume you also have your chainmail vest on? ;)

  • I wrote it... its reference to "idiocracy". ...there's a guy named Upgraydd. 2 D's for a double dose of pimping. ha ha

Yep, still chains, and chainmail. Both getting heavier.

  • lol @ Mr. Burns. too cute.

  • Thanks! He likes to hear that.

  • oh noes! =o

    4.59 Mr Burns! He's BLEEEDING!!

  • no no, its just a runny nose. He's ok.

  • A new Jaimie video never fails to brighten my day.

My brother is also a fan of yours, and together we are currently in the planning stages of out own Super (but not giant) Robot project purely for Awesomeness.

You're an inspiration is what I'm saying I guess.

  • I have to agree!

Not about the robot...I'm not building or planning one...neither about my brother being a fan...so...basically, yeah it brightens my day, haha!

    keep Em coming Jaimie!

  • Oh, excellent. Brightening a day is pretty great too. :-)

  • Thats awesome! Being an inspiration to someone else is about the best compliment a guy could get. I'd love to see your robot. Is it on your page? I'm going to go look.

  • "Dashaina's bits aren't big enough..."

HURR NURR I'M TOO IMMATURE TO WATCH THIS.

Someone please tell me I wasn't the only one to pick up on that line...?

  • It's alright, I'm just as immature as you.

  • Oh great. Its an epidemic! Its a room full of 4 year olds! ha ha Well, at least I'll fit in ok.

  • shhhh.... you guys are gonna get me in trouble! Her bits are plenty big! :-) They're very nice bits.

  • I think you're saying too much here... (^_- )

Oh yeah, I thought before, because the latch handle bit is curved to fit the Burns-y goodness, won't it grate when the angle's changed, because the relative curvature of the door to the latch is decreasing?

(Christ, that sounds alot more intelligent than it is.)

  • Nope. There are no problems. :-)

It rubs, but its good to have frfiction to hold the latch in place.

  • SCREW THE PLIERS! I AM THE BULL DOZER!

    you are awesome.

  • ha ha. raarrrrr. I spose sometimes barbarian style works better than anything else.

  • and that is why i am building a giant cross bow that shoots flaming arrows.

  • Very nice latch!!

  • Thanks! It works great too. :-)

  • That's a real simple solution, I enjoyed watching as always.

  • Very nice. You make half assery look like full assery, you are very skillful in the powers of illusion.

  • operations?

    OPERATION TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

    postponed until spring...

  • Way to go Smithers, Mr burns gets you hot! :-)

  • lol jamie , build a new stove, your totally capable of something fantastically awesome. i say, home made clay bricks, nice aluminum cladding. iron cast door, handle.

  • but... Mr. Burns IS AWESOME! What are you talking about???? He heats my place as hot as I could possibly want... cooks my food, holds enough wood to go for days, and have enough vent control to set the fire at any level. I haven't had to relight in 2 months.

  • that is quite the stove, the handle is very well done as well, don't mind me i just love sharing ideas

  • thanks. :-) I actually ended up bending the handle a little bit differently after using it for a bit. Its even better now. :-)

  • Yeah why was there water running out of that drill hole in mrBruns? Are you powering it with hydrogen? :D

  • Actually, that was oil. ....so the drill bit doesn't heat up and get dull. :-) its burnt off now.

  • Poor Mr. Burns was BLEEDING!

  • no no, he likes it

  • You just reminded me to go check my fire lol. Good work.

  • Ya... I just had this psychic impression that I better talk about fire.... :-P

  • I love wood heat and would never have it any other way. Its free, all you have to do is the work. Lots of work. We burn around six bush cords a year, give or take.
