The Giant Bomb Community Song

I use this to introduce people to GB & WM because "it's a video game website" immediately puts people on guard, even if I continue with caveats about how it's so much more than that, and there is really sound humor that comes from the personalities and (sometimes) users.

I've been just briefly describing the concept behind the creation of this song and then showing people, and they love it.

As an aside, Matt Rorie's puppies work very well too!  My girlfriend quotes him with our dogs now.

You know that awesome feeling of awe you get when you experience something truly great? This is better than that. Some of the tunes here are godly, and the rest are divine. Watching this gave me the feeling one gets while watching a movie like inception, or reading the end of a really REALLY good book. It's just SO awesome that I have this feeling of... It's indescribable, like a weird feeling of amazement thats physically manifested in my chest. Wow.

@blaizevincent I find this sort of thing to generally take more time than skill. If you've use Photoshop, AE is just that for motion graphics. All video editing is done in AE too.

Try out the trial version and get some tutorials fro video copilot and creative cow.

@lonehuon Nope, no Illustrator, just After Effects. Any tutorial on Creative-Cow or Video Copilot is good, no need to be specific, learn 'em all.

@lonehuon Ah, gotcha. I didn't use any tutorials that were specifically geared towards typography, just ones for accomplishing effects like the Claude VU meter and the flying rainbow streaks in the "check yo self" part. :)

For type: make each word a separate layer; arrange nicely; then change each start time of each layer to match the audio. After that animate the camera. Everything else is up to you. There are a lot of animation presets built-in that are good for figuring things out.

@orangerooster The audio was provided by Giant Bomb user, "ZeroCast" - he spent 5 minutes reflecting on his gaming history and life as a child. I chopped the audio up and restructured it to make it seem like he was talking about a catastrophic event. Pitch correction was used to make his intonation sound more serious.
