Something my teacher told me: one doesn't recognize a good drummer by how many strokes he can put in 10 seconds, or what kind of technical features he can pull out of the hat. The REAL quality of a drummer is to play the beat, nothing more, nothing less. This is of course his opinion, but I do think that many drummers are underrated for just playing the beat. I mean, that's what it's all about man!!

Both very talented drummers. o-O Not really comparable cause they both have different strengths etc. Neither are the best or "Gods" it's not hard to have Chad Smith's groove or Ian Paice's speed. It's more about making it your own and seeing two different styles meet and work so well together is what's cool about this video not the individual drummers, I couldn't care less if it was the teletubies playing to be honest.

Of course he plays with maybe FFFF dynamics when jamming, but he has genius timing and knows when and how to fully control his dynamic range. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Paice too, but in my opinion Chad Smith is more flavored. And not to sound too bitchy, but Chad has been in the lime light for more than 20 years, as has Paice.
