God bless Debbie Reynolds - when MGM closed down and they sold off all the old gowns, props etc... she tried to buy it all to save Hollywood history but was outbid. God bless you Debbie and thank you for all of what you have done for cinema. xxxx
I love how the only idiot who liked what is going on "today" is Janice...umm who? I never heard of her. Ann Miller is kind of embarrassing but she's right and so is Nanette. Jane Powell is so diplomatic I love her
She is right about this glamour thing.. The way women dress today. The worst fashion crime today is most women wearing jeans and some wearing slacks. Give me the old days when women wore dresses and skirts..
the difference is that Ann Miller NEVER got an ego about herself. She made a career for herself in movies because she wanted it, not because she felt she deserved it or because a parent pushed her into it. The fact that she was incredibly beautiful and talented was also a plus.
amen, it's like people don't give a damn how they look...I Even see "PROFESSIONAL" people like attorneys and doctors who look sloppy....unpressed shirts...untucked...etc. It's called societal decay!!! haha ...but seriously, why the hell don't people care? The 60's and the "baby boomers" really fu*ked our society up....those dirt bags!! haha
I disagree....The 70s where especially sloppy plus sloppy....men and women looked nearly the same with their long hair and bell bottoms....since the 80s the sense of style is back, more comfortable of course then in the old days, not that of a rigid formality like women wearing gloves on the street etc. Today we have style just not that exaggerated as back then. Women entering a restaurant in pans? ..impossilbe till the end of the 60s.
Thanks so much for posting this! I had read about it but never thought I'd get to see it! Loved seeing everyone, but wish Fred, Gene and Hermes had been given more time--love Ann Miller but I think she sort of monopolized a bit :)
I think its quite refreshing to hear what Janice Paige had to say about how it was actually bad that the studios controlled people's lives far too much in the old days. I think the interviewer was fishing for the usual opinion of any older generation thats its 'not as good now as it used to be'.
I understand what Ann Miller is saying about the glamour of the pictures back then when musicals were king, but its ironic given the way she looks as she speaks.
lol. I love Ann Miller though. She was quite a character. And I think they are all just being honest. A lot of people didn't like being so controlled by the studios but then some miss the glamour of the old days. Ann adopted an unusual look in her later years. She was quite a lady. lol.
totally amazing. having the whole package like this on one show!

I agree with Ann Miller. She said that over 30 years ago! If she saw what women and men wore today and how sloppy everyone looks..wow!

What a typically condescending crack from Kelly towards Ann: "yeaaah, let's hear it for Ann Miller".
While he was a more accomplished all-around dancer, she could tap a hell of a lot better and faster than he could.
