  • I really like your signing videos and I'm really bummed that you're giving that up. It's because of you I want to learn ASL and its because of you I investigated into a career that will let me help others who have trouble communicating communicate, maybe by teaching them sign or by teaching them other strategies. I'm sad to see what inspired me go.

  • Since you are working w apple! Do some ideas w apple company to do the ASL animations, automatically like face mask on logi cam have but whole body animation copy of human movement along w ASL! Or something to do w ASL programmed features on iPad, iPhone etc? When u r aleady inside apple! Maybe something to give back to deaf community!

  • I guess yeah ... Why idk I think it would be something new and intreating to try

  • I saw the Miley Cyrus video and subscribed, then saw this and unsubscribed... My disappointed face is on..

  • i'm fully supportive of the fact that you're trying to move forward, cuz, like you said, people change! however, i will definitely miss the ASL videos! i always looked forward to new ones being posted. but if you feel that's not what you should be doing now, that's ok, cuz the old videos are still there :)

  • I agree with RandomerThanAverage, stating that we can not make you do ASL videos, and I wouldnt want to make someone do something they dont want to, but I stick by my original post.

  • I'm not with you, I guess I am upset, and feel that your 'change' is an insult to ASL and the Deaf. You were known through your ASL...and you cant just say "I'm done with that." It is like you do not care about the Deaf now. You just want to get to know the Hearing. Its not fair to exclude the Deaf Culture! You could have brought more awareness to the Deaf! It is hard to explain, but I am not with you, I actually lost respect for you.

  • So much for not seeing much of your hands. ;-) You talk with your hands, whether it's in ASL or not, and it's adorable.

I'm sad to hear you don't plan to do more ASL videos. I can't imagine giving up something I love forever, though. There will always be videos of me singing now and then - and there will always be stories I write, even if it's a year or more in between.

I hope you come back to ASL every once in awhile. :-)

  • Aww ;( Sad there's not going to be any more ASL videos. I love watching what you do, because you're so good at it, you make me want to strive to become better than I am, and more like you. Plus I love your NMS. Well, I still have the old stuff to look at!

  • I dig it! It's good to see someone who wants to get to know their fans! Just as long as you keep signing as well! You do it so well. But I've gotta say...I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions! Looking forward to the new videos! :D

  • You do have a gift but you're also exploring what else is there, too. Your personality shows through whatever you do whether it's signing or speaking. Not only do people evolve but we are also very curious, too. One of my goals in life is to learn a lot about everything! So keep it up! Whatever you decide. And I'll check back in when i can; )

  • 1. First thing I noticed was the Apple Jacket.

    2. Change is good, you are getting older, etc, but you should still do ASL videos occasionally.

    3. I have to admit, by the middle, I started to feel like I was watching a little kid TV show where the characters "talk" to the kid. ( "Where's the ____?" (silence) "There it is!")

  • I am with you! Why wouldn't I? You taught me so much about asl and now I'll learn about physics and politics. Yay. xD no, but really I'm curious to see what is coming. I'VE WAITED SO LOONG! Nice to see u back on this "community" :D

  • Very cool. Change is good, so keep changing. And if you don't like the change... change again. I just subscribed, and I'll be observing this 'conversation'. So yes... I'm with you. Why? because I agree that this is a good medium.

  • OMG!!! I am glad u r back but sad it isn't ASL anymore :'(. I am finishing my first semester of ASL, I love the class and your party in the usa video was found on accident and I loved it so much that I watched more and learned that one and the fireflies one and have learned other songs from other youtubers. I have learned allot of signs from watching ASL songs and my professor has even recommended watching your videos, I really hope that you are somehow convinced to do more ALS videos :)

  • I really wish there were more people like you in the world. You are a really smart guy and I am amazed at the things you do! x)

i am keeping up with your more recent videos and they are really great x) change is what many people need, and i'm glad you are able to try something new even though what you had going on was already so successful x)

*ps: how old are you? you seem very young, and congrats on getting a job at apple! XD

  • but u did Still Alive...... btw, are you just saying this or is it like the cake? lol

  • I began watching your videos because they were signed. I am NOT disappointed that you quit making signed music videos. To not allow you to change would be really shallow of me! I'm with you on your new project and am continuing my subscription. May I suggest that you continue practicing signing in your private life? You know a lot of signs and you know how to make the signs accurately. I'll put in my two cents on future videos you make, because that's what YouTube is about, sharing ideas.

  • Honestly I couldn't be more disappointed in you.

You have a talent and now you are turning from an interesting topic that could easily have done all the things you listed and helped you reach a wider audience to do what? To talk about whats on your mind? I saw your hands flying all over the place when you were talking. You instinctively signed :two weeks past: why is it so hard for you to keep signing? CC is not the same thing. I will be unsubbing because this is disrespectful and ignorant.

  • i like the idea but i think u should also conitune making asl videos because u r awesome! =D

  • ...wait, you can TALK?! ;P

Good to hear from and see you again :)

  • It's great so hear your voice :)

  • Sorry, not really with you. Love the sign videos (I'm hearing, but would love to learn to sign), but I'm not really "engaged" enough to keep checking back for something needing input. I might lurk occasionally, but I'll probably mostly just keep watching your other videos :P

  • Great to hear from you again, Stephen. I had never subscribed (thought I had), but I was surprised to see activity from you on FB this evening, where I had liked your page ages ago. It's a big step, making the move to a more interactive YT experience. Risky, but oh-so-rewarding. I approve and although putting up an occasional ASL signsong would be good for your subscriber number, not letting it put restrictions on you is even better. I'm with you and look forward to joining the convo soon. :)

  • @CaptainValor do you live in texas? i do ^_^ as an asl 1 (soon to be asl 2) student, your videos inspire me. I'm with you!!!!

PS: i didnt think it was possible, but you actually got cuter ;) glasses ftw!

  • Mmm. That's too bad. The reason I subscribed to your channel was the ASL videos. I have a special needs child and we do limited signing in our house. I guess it remains to be seen if this new format will be interesting enough to spend my time on it. It may depend on the topics. I'll be curious to see the "Party In the USA" remake. That is a fun idea. As for your community name, I think I have a good one. How about "Valorites"? Good luck with your future endeavors.

  • Yes, we all change. You were young when you began your videos. As you move more into "adulthood," you will continue to refine & define yourself.

I took ASL as a foreign language to graduate college [for the 3rd time, see above refine & define :) ] For ASL2 finals we were tasked with making a music video. Your videos helped me. Yup, got an A!

As you move forward, my advice would be to remember where you began this journey of yours.

    All my best, Nancy

  • fun fact. your right eye brow moves alot

  • @ERICAsamERICA SO TRUE.

  • I'll miss your ASL videos, I'll be watching out in case you do them again!

  • Cait and I are in. Me, because I know you from your other interweb adventures, have missed the interaction. Cait, my daughter, says she's in because you are still cute. She also said I shouldn't say that..... but that's what moms are for.

  • I believe that your videos have been very much who you were at that moment something to do, by all accounts fun for the moment. Yet that's just it! It is was THAT moment!

I watched because I need something to do and it helped me learn much more than my ASL class ever did and for that I am grateful that there is youTube and people like CaptainValor to learn and experience.

Why am I still with you? I need fun and for the moment this is fun.

  • Ok, so I'm with you.... but.... *sniff* I really did enjoy watching those interpretations of the songs. It just was fun. It's sad to think you won't EVER do any EVER again. I am interested though to see where this goes. So for the time being... I'm with you.

  • BUT WHY? If you are such a talented signer than why would you stop? Yes, people evolve but not completely.

  • It's a shame you can't open this conversation wider... by asking your questions also in sign.

  • @katherynne As I mention in the next video, I'm not actually fluent in sign. Therefore, captions! :)

  • Love your thinking face...it looks like you're constipated 0_o lol

  • I'm with you, sir.

As to the why: No person is encapsulated in one thing, one identity, one concept. No person is just what they are known for. I'm on board for this change of channel and the reflection it is of your change of self. And who knows, maybe I'll grow a bit on this with you. Maybe not. But it's worth a shot, because what else am I doing?

Looking forward to your next video. Go well.

  • I'm With you Buddy! I think being more involved in this community is an awesome idea. I was drawn to you for your ASL videos, like you I also know sign language and loved your videos. And also like you I understand people change, I can't wait to see what you do next.

  • Does this mean that you are no longer going to do asl at all? like in privet? this country doen't have enought people speaking asl

  • i can understand why folks who are tight with the Deaf community might be upset with cap's apparent dismissal of ASL, but to be fair, i don't think he ever claimed to be an advocate for sign language or Deaf culture or nothin'. i get the impression that he just made those videos 'cause they were fun and garnered page views and whatnot.

  • I'm with you :) I like the concept of discussing topics through videos and comments. It's a nice and creative use of YouTube.

  • I'm perfectly willing to talk about God with you. ||D Muahaha.

  • Also,I just want to say, even when you're not signing, you talk with your hands, lol. And it's weird to hear your voice!X-D

  • Cool idea,I like it.I'll stick with you because you seem intelligent and passionate, and those are a killer combo for worldchange.;-)

Were you open to getting links on relevant topics from us?And if so,can we still send you ASL/Deaf culture stuff?Even if you say no to the last one, letting people send you links to articles or videos could be a cool conversation-generator.I promise,we won't pigeonhole you as The ASL Guy.;-)

  • as a side note... it might be an cool idea to help raise awarness for the deaf-& hard of hearin comm. if you opened anther page and litterally just did like lessons or something that ppl could study off of.. if i knew enouf ASL i & had a vid cam i would doit but alas i cannot..& @casl3 i think you are going a bit over board... if has has no intrest in it then thats his choice... he cannot be opressing them becuase desiding to stop posting signed songs (srry bout bad grammar limit on characters)

  • I think it'd be nice if you signed what you were saying for your deaf and hard of hearing fans. You might not be deaf but you are a part of the deaf community. It'd be awesome to have their opinions and include them in your videos too. You have the knowledge!

  • i hope ewitteborg kicks ur ass. u can't just be done with a language/culture. u are taking what u learned and ur putting it below u. the people who follow u that are clueless to the deaf community are going to lower it along with u. the oppression of the deaf community is strong and as a signer u become an ally taking the lid off of the oppression. now ur saying ur putting the lid back on and dismissing it. RUDE!

  • I am with you! It makes me very happy to have this opportunity to join this community. LET'S DO THIS!

  • definitely going to miss ASL vids but looking forward to watching your new stuff! (:

  • First of all, welcome back! TTU alum here too, though I still perform as a community member with one of the music ensembles at Tech. I am intrigued by your idea for this interactive blog, so I'm definitely in on it. Though if you really want a two-way dialogue, why not alternate the new topic every two weeks between a question you ask and a question that one of us asks?

    Just an idea. :)

  • I'm all for growing and discovering more about ourselves, but I don't think that includes leaving everything in the dust that is the past because the past is what made us who we are today. Now I'm not saying that nothing should be left in the past or that sometimes we don't change completely then look back and say, "wow that is crazy!" I'm a little biased though because I am wanting to become an ASL interpreter which is what brought me to your channel. I am willing to see where this goes though

  • I forgot that I was subscribed to this channel! :) I'm with you because when I first subscribed to your channel, I was in my third semester of ASL and it was interesting to see you song-signing. A year later, I'm not finishing up a degree in social work. So I will always have an interest in ASL, I will enjoy talking about these social issues on your channel.

  • uhhhh, so I just noticed the comment in the top comments. Apparently you will still be doing BadPhilosophy since you commented "we are still trying to make it a thing". I should really read before I write. Now I have posted three times. Ending rambling. Now.

  • I might add I am with you on this. While I do love our ASL videos I also love discussing interesting topics especially when they truly challenge one's beliefs or how they view things. I'm Excited!

  • this isn't replacing BadPhilosophy is it? You will be doing both? Sorry if this question was already asked?

  • to each there own i guess, good for you tho for embrassing your change and not holding back due to the popular demands of fans. i will keep my subscriptions tho to see what you have to say :)

  • Aww ill miss your videos a lot... But I'm looking forward to these new videos! Maybe you could post an ASL vid ONCE a WHILE?

  • I think this is a fantastic Idea! Though I do love watching those ASL videos (and I smile each time I hear that wretched Miley Cyrus song now), I'm totally with you! I think that a sense of community is extremely important, wether it is in a neighborhood or at your place of work, and now, online. It seems everything has reached the internet and I think its great that you want to bring community to it as well. Change is a good thing!

  • Man, am I pissed. This is how I was learning a lot of my signs and I was looking forward to new videos...I'll give the "change" a chance, but I sure hope it doesn't suck like some of those other vloggers in YouTube :)

  • I'm personally looking forward to these upcoming videos.

Also, you have a very calming voice. :)

  • I saw your ASL videos a while back and found them quite entertaining. It was nice to see a unique interpretation of the song covers that people publish and I suppose it's only fair to say I'll miss them a bit. That said I am quite looking forward to seeing where these community discussions lead. As someone with a relatively short attention span I can completely understand wanting a change of pace every now and then. Hopefully I can add to the conversation (and not always respond a week late...)

  • Boo Texas Tech. Boo Aggies. LONGHORNS ALL THE WAAAY! :) lol

  • Let's do this thing!

I'm excited to see you embrace this idea of community and getting a discussion started! Also, I always wondered what your voice sounded like! I'm game, Cap-E-tan!

  • I don't know. Depends on whether it's interesting or not.

  • im game. you should still toss in the occasional asl video. lol

  • Hey! OK- So I don't have internet atm (yay wifi hotspots!) and tonight I can't watch the videos b/c they are longer than this place is open. I've seen the second one before (M. Wesch is great! :-)) I am with you, but I will miss the ASL. Between you and Ally (and consequently personal endeavors), I learned a lot of signs and find myself signsinging in the car... :P

  • Really great idea! :D

    Hooray for community! :D

I think it's a good idea to get people thinking and such, and seeing different opinions sounds like fun!

Though, I will miss your ASL videos, since I squeed at them with high school bliss as an ASL student, but just do what you want :)

  • Okay, I'm okay with you changing, but at least do an ASL video once a year or something!! btw that painting was pretty cool :) I love you anyways, you look cute in glasses and congratulations on the apple-job thing :) good luck

  • You made me laugh out loud when you said we'd see less of your hands, and then started talking using your hands to gesture more.

  • I am unsure I am with you or not. I loved watching your translation videos. However, I am interested where this goes. As of now I am with you and will continue watching, to explore your channel as it grows.

  • At the moment I'm rather neutral. I'm curious to see where your new ventures take you and your fan base. I enjoy listening to Vlogs. Not many of those to whom I listen respond directly to listeners. But, it is sad I will not be able to look forward to any new song translations. You are an energetic and expressive performer. I had become interested in sign language and found something to talk about with a deaf coworker.

Change can be a good thing. I'm not scared off. I still plan on watching

  • With you, although unsure of *exactly* why... i think i like seeing people experiment with ideas, explore stuff, and allow things to evolve. Seeing you move on from ASL is an evolution and change, and I'm curious to see where it goes for you and the rest of us.

  • Great idea!

  • With you on this. Because I never participate on videos through comments and shiz. You're a beginner, so I might as well be too.

  • You are here on this earth to be the best you. Always strive to be that. If every day that changes well then it does. I totally get it. What you are doing is going to be great. We are all going to start thinking now and you have set it up for us. You have set out to be the best you by making others realize that every day can unlock a new door. I am with you and can't wait to get going on this... People open your mind for new possibilities every day. Set out to be the best YOU!!!

  • I like the new you instead of wacthing the kool videos i get to lissen to your sexy voice talk geek

  • holy shit I figured it out. I knew he was talking all strange and shit. HE'S BEEN POSSESSED BY STEVE JOBS.

  • "And i wouldn't really get any interaction past a bunch of comments" yeah... tha'ts basically how youtube and the rest of the internet works. If you want that much feedback and reaction go out in the real world and do it for people.

  • Dude u already have one. Everyone who watches ur asl videos.

  • I'm much the same way as you were, I mainly use youtube to post and share what I like (and am semi-good at) or watch random stuff. But although I can comment on some stuff, I don't particularly feel like I'm part of this community?

As for your new project, go for it! It's great you got inspired, I only wish I could muster up my strength and start on all the "grand" ideas I have. And I would be more into making better videos if I had any of those skills... :P But good luck!

  • Apple actually recognizes ASL as a language :)

  • @seankivi Asl is recognized as a language in the USA and Canada..

  • @daizy725 Not all companies recognize i as a real language. That is why when you apply for these companies they do not have that as a known language. Apple on the other hand has that listed as a language that you can select when you apply. Other companies such as target, WalMart, Best Buy so on and so forth do not. Apple is the only company I have come across to actually have asl as an option.

  • its ok that you stopped doing asl videos because thats your decision and your option do whatever feels good for you,im not happy that you stopped doing them because you motivate me to keep trying with asl but then again if you are ready to "evolve" then go ahead i wish you the best of luck and nice job working at apple woot woot!

  • No more ASL!? Dude I'll be back when you do ASL again! you were the best person to do the songs in asl. But you do whatever feels right!

  • @kennett2007 check out xcrippledhope...it's not as much of a performance, but it's still very good.

  • Sorry, I'm out. No ASL? You were the first person I watched signing a song, your song was the first I learned in ASL. Make more and I'm in :)

  • If I want to interact witn someone I go on forums, this is boring. Watch meekakitty if you really want to go in this direction. That's similar but way more intersting than what you proposed.

  • I loved your ASL videos, but, I believe I love these even more! I'm all for interaction and community ;) I think it's an AWESOME idea. =) There is another youtube blogger I follow that is just like that...asks questions and responds to the commenters (he's hella funny too)! Problem is he's a Gay guy that usually posts things about homosexuality and I am neither a dude nor am I gay so I'm REALLY looking forward to your videos!! Can't Wait, Hun....let's get this party started!! LoL

  • I'm in. Lets create the future. Here's one approach: How about you ask people in your next video what they feel is the most important thing that could be accomplished with this approach, then in the next video pick one goal and ask what people think is the best way to accomplish it, then in the next video ask people to participate in some sort of action toward that goal and comment about it, then in the next video analyze lessons learned and revise the strategy to improve the whole process.

  • hmm, I'm for and against this idea. Here's my thing--

I found you because recently I've decided that instead of just majoring in elementary education, I want to learn ASL and then double major in elementary education and deaf/ hard of hearing education. My sister knows I've been really excited to start my ASL class next semester, so she posted your Party in the USA video on my Facebook. I loved it, watched some others of yours, and subscribed. This was just a couple weeks ago.

  • @lolmymag So I'm really excited I found you just in time for this. I think it's really great that you want to make it more of a community, and maybe it'll inspire me to make video responses myself. :) So while I'm all for that, I also think a large part of your community is probably either hard of hearing or at least interested in ASL, and you should keep that in mind. Maybe make an ASL song once a month, or incorporate it into your vlogs. I love those songs and I know I'm not the only one.

  • @lolmymag Okay, I'm sorry, after this I'll be done-- I want to make it really clear what I mean. I don't want you to feel like you HAVE to do anything. You don't have to do ASL songs if you don't like it anymore. That's understood. But your followers love you for them, and I think we can definitely find a happy medium if we look hard enough. Maybe you could sign along with your vlogs, or find another way to accommodate the people who are here for the Sign Language.

  • As much as I'll miss the ASL videos, I do in fact like and support the idea of fostering community interaction and collaboration. Much like you, I'm kind of a passive youtube user: Post something, watch something, rarely engage or comment. Perhaps an experiment like the one you propose will change that, at least in me.

I look forward to this social test.

  • I suppose I'm with you. I guess we'll see how it goes eh?

  • I'M WITH YOU!! ^_^ As much as I loved the ASL videos, this seems very interesting as well. I think this is a really interesting way to use Youtube, and it's one that I, personally, have not seen before. It seems like fun, and I'll try to keep up and post responses. Yay!

  • K so I first started really liking you was with your rendition of that one zombie song you did in ASL. I say I'm with you!!! mainly because I think it's important to keep moving forward with our personal growth. I do have a few questions for you . . . how old are you? do you have a special some one? why do you work for apple?

    Thanks

    Sparky

P.S. I think you look even cuter with the glasses :P

  • As the redundant chorus has previously stated I too joined for the uniqueness of your videos which happened to be the ASL. As you ask for change, to consider change and as each day we do change. I am with you. However if you disappear for a year again then chances are no. I wont subscribe for long. Good luck!

  • The way you talk about people changing and moving on reminded me of Walt Disney's quote, "I do not like to repeat successes, I like to go on to other things."

So with that, I am with you. Why not move on to new and different things? Yes people vlog, and ask for responses from their audiences, but it's usually more of a mild entertainment that an actual pursuit. Let's see what happens. :)

  • I'm with you, though I admit I will miss your ASL vids, I like this change because I would love to get to know you better and I like how you want to interact with the youtube community. Change is a fact of life and this one is good with me. :] Thank ye for coming back and lookin' forward to your next vid. xx

  • Yes. People do change. However your talents will always be your talents and you should never let them get dusty. Continue ASL. Put videos of it up if you want, but don't if you don't. You're not required to put them up just because a bunch of anonymous people get a giggle out of your facial expressions. That said, it's actually cool to watch the ASL and hear the voice at the same time. Do that next time. Just for me. ^^

  • I'm with you for now.... because you interest me, and I'd like to know more about you. I'll miss the ASL vids (and I wish you'd reconsider and do a few more at least) but I want to know more about you and see what else you do.

  • i think you should make a new channel then because the reason people even subscribed to this channel was to watch the ASL vids and if you don't plan to make them anymore then...

  • I've always liked the Youtube Community. For a long time I've been a Nerdfighter, Beardlover, a member of the Pogo Tribe, an Mythical Beast, and much more. Communities form around vloggers all of the time, but never because they asked for it. If people enjoy the content then they stay an the community is born. I'm all for community, I just think that this feels forced. But like many others down in the Comments I am willing to give this a try.

  • @stevenmichaelpatrick If that's all you need for a community he already has one - everyone who watches his ASL videos. I Toby Turner because I like him, and so does everyone else, so now we're all The Audience.

  • You know, I'll be honest and just say that the only reason I followed you was to see you do more ASL videos. No one else was like that, and I just saw you as someone that was doing something that I admired... long story short is that if you cease to do ASL videos, I'll stop following.

  • I'm...not sure yet. You'll always be the ASL guy that I show to all my friends ;) Willing to give this a try to see how interesting it is. But I normally come on YT to be entertained. I tuned out halfway through this one (your voice is too calming for me). Just being honest. Good luck with your new direction.

  • I'm willing to give it a shot. You earned you're ASL fans, so now you have to earn your vlogging fans too! Good luck!

  • Like many of the other commenters here, I think that you can do whatever you feel interests you at the moment. After all, that is the purpose of Youtube, no? It's also convenient that you have a viewer base already to turn to so you're not starting from scratch. I think that the discussions will be fun as Bad Philosophy was, for the most part, interesting. Personally, I will miss JoCo songs signed but looking forward to (nerdy?) discussion topics. :)

  • @poofy8food Oh my gosh! A Bad Philosophy fan! Thank you for existing. We're still trying to make it a thing. ^_^

  • @CaptainValor Philosophy and nerds in Texas? Always fun.

  • my only issue with this video.

    TEXAS TECH SUCKS!!!!

A&M IS SO MUCH BETTER (yes i am an aggie)

  • @Ajay1143 Eh. It's all about Rice.

  • @poofy8food see i respect Rice...they dont throw animal shit in aggie coach buses, which was crossing the line! (f*ck Texas Tech)

  • @Ajay1143 In football, I agree with you. This year at least. ;)

  • @CaptainValor just wait till next year, we will own yall again ;D plus tech totally destroyed a bunch of aggie buses which was not cool!

  • I'm with you, but I don't think it would hurt to still make the occasional ASL video, too. Among other things, it's good practice for people trying to learn ASL. It helps promote ASL and even give the general public a little more awareness of the issues that hearing-impaired people might have. So, once in a while, I hope you'll still feel inspired to do an ASL vid. Meantime, I'm looking forward to topic two. (Note: only do the ASL video when INSPIRED.)

  • Prefer the videos on here. If you want to do conversation I would think that would be on another site.

  • I love saying my opinion so i'm behind you all the way but i still absolutely LOVE your ASL videos and miss them quite a lot, but even though I miss them I totally get the whole evolving thing and back you100%

  • I understand your desire to want to be a part of the vlog community, which is very cool, and also you wanting to seize that opportunity. I understand that things change.

However, I don't understand why you would abandon making ASL videos completely. There are millions of vloggers here on youtube, doing the exact same thing. But when it comes to ASL, you are an innovator...there's no one else like you.

I will stick around, but I hope you change your mind and do an ASL vid occasionally.

  • Im with you on this. Im glad to see that you are willing to put yourself out there and try new things and not worry about what other people are going to think or say about it..and im interested to see what kind of stuff your going to want to talk about every 2 weeks....it will be interesting to see what other people have to say on the topic also

  • I'm totally with you on this!! I was really sad when I saw that you wouldn't make any more ASL video's, but also happy for you, when you said "The wind blows me elsewhere." Everyone deserves new experiences.. And this new youtube experience I feel is going to be quite fun!

  • People change and go through phases. If they didn't, we would still be playing with barbies and hot wheels. Will I continue to watch your channel, sure. Will I comment, yes only if I have something to say about the topic.

  • Definitely I'm on this with you, still, like most of the commenters, I'll really miss the ASL videos. Would be cool if you'd still make one in a while.

And, btw. it's great to see you again. And hear your voice, we didn't get much of that in the past. You look cute in those glasses. Keep inspiring us all :)!

  • is your life, you can do whatever you want with it.

suddenly you'll get bored of this too.

  • At the beginning, I started to subscribe to your videos because of your ASL-songs - you are really good as a performer and really communicate the emotions and meaning of the songs. And as others has said - there are a lot of vlogging on youtube - why bother listening to another? However, I will stick around for a bit, and hopefully learn something new.

  • I don't mind if you do your vlog thing, but could you please continue making ASL videos, even if they're not songs?

  • Im with you cuz I think it would be good to see what other people say about the question you will be asking...Should be intresting.

  • I think it's always good to try a new direction. If you find that it works well, that it is enjoyable, then why not stick with it? And if you don't find it working, it's easy enough to progress into a different direction and change that way. So I'll definitely take a peek from time to time and maybe put my two cents in.

As an aside, you have a very pleasant speaking voice to listen to. :x

  • I have to admit, although I am a wee bit disappointed that you won't be doing ASL videos, I kind of like this idea of community and conversation you have going here. I think I'll stick around and participate. I look forward to whatever other questions you throw out here and seeing what kind of responses you get.

  • I completely understand that people change and you want to move on. I hope you also understand that I'm interested in the ASL videos and not your new format. That is why I am unsubscribing. I wish you all the best in your new videos!

  • wtf happened to you...

  • I think this is an interesting idea and I think it is cool that you want to "get to know us better" BUT...I really really really enjoyed your ASL songs. I thought that the way you did them was great and I have seen a couple of other people do ASL songs and NONE of them were as good as you. I thought it was cool that you were doing the ASL songs and when I saw this video I was really disapointed. The reason I beagan watching you was because of the ASL songs that you filmed and I will miss them.

  • i cry in tears of sadness :'( The ASL videos were amazing and i didnt just watch it cause it was a amazing but inspiring. Since seeing your video i have ALWAYS wanted to learn ASL.... so as for me i disapprove. I want to see you to go back to the way it was, go ahead and make the vlogs but please... don't stop ASL videos

  • Im sooo dissapointed because i love seeing your asl videos because i am a CODA (child of deaf adults) and i love seeing these videos because they help me improve my own asl videos that i make

  • This is really cool! The ASL videos were cool, but that's in the past. This sounds really interesting. I think I might actually participate.

  • I think this is a great move. However, I am sort of sad the the ASL won't be coming in because you inspired me to learn sign language. But, I am with you all the way. I love discussions and things like this so I'm pumped for whatever is to come!

Btw, I think you would make a really good college professor. You just have this thing about you where it seems like you would do good talking about history in a classroom or something like that.

  • Life is about change. People change every day in jobs, schools, friends, styles, lovers, cars, homes, hobbies, the list goes on. Some change is good (underwear is a good thing to change for sure, and no flippin them over, that is just nasty) & some change is bad (normal society member to serial killer would be bad - don't do it). Never fear or try to ignore change because you cannot stop it. So lets see what the future holds for you CaptianValor! How will your change change you? =) Peace!

  • Haha. I wondered where you went. :) I think that it is incredible you're changing things up. It's always nice to see growth in people and the capability to adapt and be more open to different things.

People do change, and change is always exciting for me. =) I look forward to seeing more.

  • Some of you like to say that this is about his ego. I think that's ridiculous. You think he is changing the direction of his channel and exposing himself to criticism so that he can stroke his ego? If he wanted to stroke his ego he could just make more ASL songvids and watch the praise flow in.

Captain Valor, I have a BA in Anthropology and I think this could be fun. I too want to be more of a part of the youtube community but I find myself making excuses to slack off. I think it's time now.

  • such a philosophy major! lol It seems like this is almost an alternative to the live bad philosophy episodes you, Kevin, Jed, and various others used to do in the past. I know ya'll still do bad philosophy but you don't seem to get as much feed back from listeners (from what I can tell) and I think you want to be able to respond to the different ideas and that's what's behind this new move of yours. You might not have a career dealing with philosophy but you want a life filled with it. ;)

  • @domoarigato7 We're slowly getting back into the live swing of things. Not having easy access to badass cameras presents a bit of a challenge. New episodes are airing roughly every Thursday.

  • I'm with you all the way. I agree that people do change and evolve and while it's sad to lose such a good signer, I understand your reasons behind it. I agree with you that social media like YouTube can be used to share ideas and thoughts, and I think if you utilize your channel like that you will be utilizing social media as it was intended. Good luck with the new direction, and I hope you get a lot out of it!!

  • This is a great idea. I really believe that people over time change. A few years ago I could never see myself in a different country but as I watched this I was sitting at my desk in Spain. I'm learning a different culture, language, way of life and have been changing quite a bit since I've gotten here, and I know when I go back I will be changing as well with starting college. As Americans we are very comfortable with the idea of change. Its not always good and its not always bad. Its a change.

  • BTW. A favorite expression of mine is: "Change is good...you go first!" I'm watching and wishing you the best.

  • The America of my youth with a common "shared experience" of a half dozen TV shows has been fragmented by cable and the Internet. Good news it's a world wide community. Bad news it's a collection of tiny groups following anything from LOL Cats to the latest meme. If you pull this off use your power to decide on a sarcasm font for e-communications! Good Luck!

  • I'm with you simply because I'm a huge fan of yours in everything, and I love youtube for a lot of the reasons you mentioned, so sure, why not bring them together? I think you went about it was a little oddly. Your fans are here for one thing and you're completely changing it up, so I'll stick with you, but with all the change maybe you should just start a new channel for this. Those are my thoughts. I have more, but just realized youtube now more monitors character count. Good luck!

  • To be bluntly honest, I come here to let my autistic son see some signing with music (showing interaction between sounds and gestures (gestures are easier for him to grasp as having meaning, physical cues and all that)). I'm not going to stop coming here because the songs that already up are still very helpful, but I will admit to being pretty disappointed that there won't be any new ones to show him. And no he doesn't get to watch the First of May.

  • I'm with ya, but only 'cause I've never watched vlogs before.(never saw a point in it) So, really, its like we're both trying something new. xD

  • i like your idea, and you have qualities of a good vlogger; you articulate ideas well and are eager to interact with your audience/the community, and edit nicely. But consider creating a new/second channel for your new phase. The audience for ASL videos is going to be different than the audience for interactive vlogs, and when you keep the same channel but abruptly switch gears, it looks egotistical, even if you ask for feedback, like still assuming your original audience will just follow you.

  • I was disappointed as I began watching this video, but actually getting a chance to see you just talk and *be human* does add something to your previous videos, and I think you'll bring the same creativity and charisma to vlogging that you had with ASL vids.

  • I really like your idea ... I loved the ASL videos you made, so it's nice to have the opportunity to exchange opinions and to get to know you more. For example, with what you put in this video I got interested in your painting and Texas Tech (which I didn't know about, so I looked on wikipedia to know more). Btw, can you tell more about this painting??

  • I do think many people do love to watch you ASL videos and your viewing might take a hit for it. I totally support you in your decision. I would like to mention that I referenced your "Fireflies" and yes "Party in the USA" videos for my ASL class, the whole class signed "party in the USA. (also "Still Alive" but that was just for fun for my friend and I). I've always thought about making videos and now that I'm in ASL 4 in High School maybe I can start. Thanks for everything!

  • I'm disappointed. And I'm out. Sorry. I just recently found you here, and I haven't even watched all the ASL videos as of yet. I have found no one else who even comes close to your skill and energy level. I shared your videos with my ASL classes and encouraged everyone to watch more.

I'm not mad. Really. It's YOUR channel, so do what you gotta do. I just cannot afford time for anything I don't love, and I don't see this new direction as something I would love. I wish you well, tho.

  • While I have always loved your ASL videos (I am a sign lanugage interpreter myself), I don't mind if you move in a different direction. It is your channel by the way. So thanks for the past videos.

  • Although I miss your ASL videos, I understand where you are coming from, and I'm with you. When one mind is capable of so many things, why just stick to one thing? Talent towards one thing is cool, but the capability to expand to several talents is even better. The great thing about modern technology, is that you can record one talent, share it with the world, and explore other talents. So that other talent you've discontinued is still there for the rest of the world to stay. I'm cool with new.

  • I'm with you because I like the whole idea that you wanna start new, but.. I really am gonna miss your asl videos, they helped me out a lot. You should surprise us with some more! Just sayin'(:

  • That is a good cause
