  • Absolute, pure, and total CLASS

  • I would love to own at least 20 of her dresses, she dressed with such class. Beyonce, And Rhianna are trash, I know we are in a diffrent era, but damn. Being naked on stage all the time is de grading as hell to me. Lena was pure Class.

  • Tell you all something One of her most briliant songs for cabaret shows was entitled " I love to love " It's white hot !!!! BUT it cant be found on UT. Only on a vinyl now into a CD. • ooooooooooooooh ;-) !

  • My heart belongs to Lena!

  • 0:34 "his asking", she added an ornament, I like.

  • Eroticism/exoticism=emoting. At least in the 50s....

  • This is lovely

  • wow, i've never heard this version before, love her voice

  • Seriously! Usually I listen to Dorothy Dandridge (my love from a different lifetime) perform it; but Lena did exeptionally well!!!

  • What a nice addition to You Tube. Lena Horne is one of my favorite performers. I read some of the comments posted. She never used to make faces like that -- in a documentary called Brown Sugar (came out in the early 90s), it was stated that her style change (making the wild eyes and faces) was due to her harboring a lot of bitterness and anger toward the industry. But still, it has never affected her ability to get the feeling across in her singing. Definitely a legend!

  • She changed her style in the late 1940s as she embarked on a BIG career in nightclubs. Lena was an actress-singer and thisn is the way she did it from then - on. That bitterness against the industry BS, I do not believe. Why should she be bitter? She was a huge stage star.

  • She talked about her bitterness extensively in the one-woman show she did late in life. It was very real.

  • Miss Horne was a trailblazer and she knew what she was up against and the reasons why. I would think there WERE times when she felt anger about injustices, but she overcame the challenges with class and grace. As for the idiotic assumption that she would have been happier had her skin been 'lighter', how ludicrous. She stated in her Broadway show that 'Momma and Poppa were happy with the program (being Black) and she was too. So much for 'issues'. Lena is and will always be fab.

  • Have you read the new book bio of Lena? She was and is violently angry throughout her life.

  • Thanks for the heads up. In all of the interviews I've seen and firsthand accounts from others I've read over the years with regard to Lena, violent behavior was never mentioned. Anger (for many reasons) was clear. I now have James Gavin's bio on my list of must reads to have his take on things. Still, given what she dealt with in those times, I think she held up remarkably well, both in public and private. I simply adore her.

  • I loved Lena Horne's style and voice, but like others some times her facial expressions were distracting. But it was her thing! I loved her when she did the Judy Garland show. Her appearance is one of my favorites.

  • She Is a True Entertainer unique and Talented

  • She sound and looks beautiful!

  • Hardly anyone has a voice comparable to Lena Horne. It just kills me that she is so relentlessly wild-eyed and flashing-teethed because it distracts from her skills AND her beauty. Isn't she just as good as Ella? And a zillion times more beautiful. But she acts like a madwoman a bit. No offense, I know I'm not fit to shine her shoes, but those expressions take you right out of the song and into a land of "Why does she does do that?" Great talent, God bless her forever.

  • I love her facial expressions

  • I love this! Lena Horne is just great!!

  • thanx so much myblackamerica i love me some lena...i use to do a tribute show in the 90's...however i have never seen this clip..loved it!!!!!!!!

  • lena was such an amazing singer!

  • It's from The Frank Sinatra Timex Show in 1959. It's odd that she appeared on the show because Lena and Sinatra despised each other!

  • @lenahorneclub

why did frank no like her?

  • @vbabe11111 The gossip says Lena and Ava Gardner had an affair before Frank married Ava. He was jealous and hated Lena like he hated all of Ava's exes. The James Gavin bio says that Sinatra didn't like it that Ava told Lena everything about gheir marriage. Who knows?

  • @lenahorneclub

well its been said that ava swung both ways so i wouldn't be surprised.

  • It appeared in Cole Porter's "Leave It to Me!"

  • What show is this from?
