this game was amazing, till I played King of Fighters '96 on the Gameboy. Sure it wasn't as colorful, but it was much faster paced and wasn't dumbed down much especially the speed. I recommend anyone who likes 2 button fighting hand held games to check that one out.
when I first exchanged my gameboy color for the neo geo poket with a friend with this game I was like OH MY GOD THIS IS SO AWESOME, Neo geo poket fuck the world, but then I didnt found any RPGS so I was then missing my game boy color lol
Unless I'm REALLY wearing thick nostalgia glasses, I think a lot of Neo Geo Pocket games looked better than this. It's a 16 bit system for crissakes.
Was this a NGPC game, or just a NGP game? The colors are pathetic.
I'd forgotten how much weaker it was than the GBA. Shame. SNK was a great company, and their support of the Neo-Geo AVS/MVS was astonishing. More than ten years worth of support.
I'm still interested to try this though. Shame it didn't have enough buttons for a SF game.
SNK is the king of hardware, I wish this would have sold well (along with the Sega dreamcast) so both of them would of had new systems that could interact with each other.
Game gear was also like 100 bucks, and lasts 2 hours.
NGPC cost me like 20 bucks and lasts 8 hours, plus it has a joystick built into it. It has built-in date system that affects gameplay and you can link it to dreamcast.
@ManhwaFan I repeat: Game Gear came out almost 10 years earlier and the NGPC debuted at $70. Also, the Game Gear lasted at LEAST 3 hours and unless you were running laps with it you just needed the rechargeable batter pack and battery cost was nil. The rest...who cares. It's not like it had the power for a truly serious fighter anyway, so what do you need a joystick for? Bust a Move for game gear and NGPC are virtually identical. Weak.
@ManhwaFan are you high? Game Gears are $20 TOPS. The only problem is that Game Gears are so old they are starting to have issues with the sound and screen, but who cares, SMS/GG emulation is top notch and all over the place. My old phone (N-Gage QD, not the taco talk one, google it) could emulate Game Gear full speed with sound and it was in my pocket the whole time. Regardless, Game Gear did it better 10 years earlier. Cry about it.
You know... of all the CvS/SvC games released - this one has to be both the most balanced AND the most fun!
Olympic Mode and the Mayhem Moves, along with the hidden/unlockable characters gave it more replay value than all of the other iterations combined. And the story was pure cheese, sure... but it still beat out the other titles'.
I actually have both an NGPC and this game, btw! :D
I'm glad you can actually play mini games with both girls. By the way, in case anyone didn't know, doing the mini games gives you lots of points so you can go to this thing where you can learn the special attack of certain characters. It takes more and more points to learn the next special move. Also by getting lots of points, you get fancy little medals that tell you how good you did on the mini games.
i do agree, i thought i remembered the neo geo pocket color to have better graphics, but it was still an epic handheld system with the analog control scheme. I wish they still made them.
I don't say this about too many games, but this game was (and still is) one of the best handheld fighters, period. You can see that they put their all into the game, even despite the hardware limitations. Great music, superb visuals and character animations (Geese and Mai in particular), tons of fighters for a handheld fighter, tons of unlockables, fun mini-games, this game had it all.
No handheld fighter even on the current market has impressed me as much as this game.
These games were meant to played with the NGPC's click-stick, dpad or analog nub is terrible. Thats why there were so many fighting games on this system.
@shiningwizard327 no it isnt i have had this one also and its very good i agree but no better than some of the psp fighters like tekken or street fighter alpha 3 or darkstalkers etc
Where can I get one???!

Game Gear looked way better and was a lot earlier.
