  • I've got a 54 cg had it abt a year now it's great cheap as chips abt £12 petrol lasts me nearly 3 weeks or 200 or so miles I've got a givi universal screen ther a bit big 4 this bike but it looks ok and it makes a huge difference against the wind. Happy days

  • Does it have under seat storage?

  • Please could you tell me the exact make and model of the screen please.

Also, the black thing you pointed to is not the carb, the carb is on the R/H side of the bike. The battery is also not on the R/H side, it's on the left under the plastic panel.

  • @mattrehmhext If you listened to him he said at 3:00 minutes onwards you'll hear him say 'on the otherside' and the carb is also on the l/h side as it is on mine, i know this because the mechanic at the garage told me when i bought mine

  • do u mind if i come to ur house and kill u :)

  • nice screen what is the make?

  • Thanks for explaining what the indicator switch is for. that's something that always puzzled me! You coulda told us why it has two wheels while you're at it tho

  • Why is this video called top speed? Am I right in thinking they will do 70 mph

  • Comment removed

  • @ukchris64 they are supposed to do 63mph tops maybe 66 with the wind aiding you going down hill, i have known one person ( my borther ) who got 85-90 mph out of it , he did an oil change and " forgot " to put oil back in the bike, making the engine that much lighter and faster, sadly after 50 miles with the throttle fully open and at the speed he was going the engine blew itself to bits a few days later

  • @majormojoman Really? i had mine at 73 the other day... going downhill but i did havea fair amount of wind resistance.. :D

  • @ukchris64

I've got 78mph out of mine before downhill but it took some time getting there, it tends to average on 60-65 on a flat with no wind

  • Nice to see that honda has given there baisc run around some modern touches, although they shouldn't have removed the chain casing, that is very useful, and the fuel injector isn't needed either, that pervents you from taking it to a local bike shop for engine repairs!

  • how do you open the seat

  • @ShellCatori

Hello, to remove the seat, look underneath the pillion grab handles inside the fairing, you will see a lever on both sides, pull these towards yourself to remove the seat, exposing where the tools and spare bulbs should be stored!

  • How do you open the seat

  • you a fuking dumb ass the carb isnt under that plastin its to the left of the engine (looking for right side) love to see you on a cold day trying to fing the choke on a piece of plastic ahahahah wat a dumb asss

  • 89.9 in your dreams you'll never see those prices again :)

  • i really fancy one of these bikes but how small are they? im 6ft and im scared i wil look like a dooofus on one cause im too big

  • @harght

Hello, they are a small bike, and they do lack power if you are acustommed to more powerful machines, but if you don't mind crotching down if you need more than 50mph out of it, the ride is perfectly comfortable, you may look a bit silly admittedly, but your co workers soon stop laughing when they find out how cheap they are too run,

Especially as fuel is around £1.35 per litre at present.

  • @harght lol 6ft isnt very big, im 6ft 4 and ive ridden scooters before

  • nice bike, i have a honda cg too in red i was just wondering where you got that wind deflector from i like the look of it or if any one else knows let me know please many thanks

  • i dont care how it looks its highly practical, 100 mile a tank and costs less than the wife and its not as fussy.

  • @spaceman17ful haha too true !!!

  • haha, good review dont get me wrong.

but, the topbox is unsightly! its ghastly!

and everyones right, its a ES-7

  • Thank's so much for this, How much dose it cost for the Box on the back?, Will be doing my CBT soon and Hopefully going to grab myself a CG, How powerful is it?, Dose it struggle up somewhat steep hills?

  • It's pretty cool that this bike even comes with a chain. That's a real luxury.

  • That black box is not the carb..

  • lol 89.9 for fuel those were the days

  • where did u buy ur screen from? How did you know it would fit?

    thanks

  • mate that black box bit at the front of the engine isnt the carbouretter the carb is hidden behind the pannel on the right

  • dude thats a 2004 model cg the same as mine it must have been first taxed in 2008... get that hideous helmet box and wind screen off and get a decent tank pad and back decal stickers...

its amazin what cgs can do

  • @weebobmarley

its quite clearly not the 2004 model. thats the ES-4 model which i also have. the one in the video is the ES-7. For starters the ES-4 didnt come in black, and you can tell its the newer model simply by the condition.

  • @weebobmarley Not everybody is a boy racer and puts a load of shitty decals on their bike.

Although I must admit, the back box does look out of place.

  • if its good enough for the taliban , its good enough for me. how much are these second hand?

  • you got most of the parts named wrong hahahahah

  • Best bike in the World. Simple and no nonsense. I recently passed my test and bought a Kawasaki ER-500. Wish I'd bought one of these instead for fuel economy and reliability. It's easy to understand why the Taliban use them lol

  • Hi, just got a 54 reg cg. What screen have you got on it? Is it Givi?

  • 89.9p per litre. I remember those days :'(

  • this is a shit bike i have 2 bikes and there both faster 1 of which is a scooter it has a 70cc bora kit,raceing pipe,upgraded cooling system,gear ratio highered ,boost bottle,molossi variotor,racing reed ,bigger carb,racing clutch,kn filter,stronger belt,port and polished,hotter spark plug

  • @MrSUTTY123 The CG125 isn't a speed demon, mate. What it will do is get you from A - B cheaply and will do it day after day with no grumbling. Your description of it as a "Shit Bike" is therefore very wrong. Your scooter will be at the scrappers within 5000 miles and this CG will live on LOL

  • @MrSUTTY123 ha a bore kit kid u really think that its better the cg will run for years but ure scooter will die sooner because u bored the engine out and for a 70cc to go faster than a 125 cg youll be revving the tits out of it

  • cool , id chop it to bits,

  • top speeds 65 not 70 ... and the carburettor isn't located behind that black box. From your point of view where you said that the carburettor is to the right of the cylinder, you can even see the choke leaver. Nice bike though :D

  • depends what yeah bike your talking about buddy, i can go up to 90 on my CG125, just got it today lol

  • there wank bikes hahahahaha sestic the gimp drives 1 LMFAO :L:L:L:L:L

  • they are fantastic economical runners, ive had like 3 bikes, all 125 and under, and kept the CG all the time, and I have had like 7 cars, but i still go back to it!!

  • @MrSUTTY123-Yeah theyre well shit innit, thats why I ride your mum to work rather than dis shit innit dooooougghhhh

  • im thinking about getting the yamaha ybr 125 instead

  • "as you can see it has a chain" haha sorry but seriously... obviously it has a chain

  • lol i agree. maybe he meant to mention that since some bikes have a belt. lol.

  • Yes. thats a good point

  • this is a very informative video as im thinking of getting a newer one soon.i currently have a 1979 cg in immaculate condition if anyone wants to buy from essex in the uk for four hundered please contact me.

  • Is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine? And where can I get one of these bikes?

  • 4 stroke

  • NIce video, Ive got a honda CG125 I think there great commuter bikes, easy to ride and cheap to run and the price you got that was good! Well done

  • thanks very much im wondering whether to get this bike and your video has helped

  • Nice. They discontinued it?

  • yep replaced by the cbf 125

  • How fast does it go in mph?

    Danny

  • 70 tops.

The old ones (i.e. 1980's) were a hell of a lot faster

The emissions laws that came in at the start of the 90's meant that they had to restrict them to cut down emissions.

So they ain't the most powerful.

  • Cool video mate, where did you get the windscreen from? Doesn't look too bad at all, might get one for my CG125

  • Great video for people getting this type of bike, I have just bought a 1982 Honda CG 125 model.. good bike me thinks!!

  • DId you notice a big difference in the ride with the screen on btw? I'm looking at buying one right now as it happens. Maybe thats why you can get to 70 mph .. and I can't. :)

  • The helmet lock thing is pretty simple, you ping it open and slip one of the 0 rings of your lid strap through it and clip it shut again. Only useful in dry weather obviously .. :)

Dial your rear shocks in to the max too, it transforms the ride! Its way spongey on stock. Use the tool in the bike's tool kit .. looks like a C spanner.

  • Don't out a magnetic tank bag on, the pain is paper thin on the tank, scratches very easily. You must be very light to get it up to 70 mph. The fastest I've ever had mine on the flat was 65 mph. Doesn't like to go faster than 55 really ..

I'm off to Spain on mine in a month's time if you want to come along btw! :)

  • Change the oil far more often than the manual says, I do 500 miles MAX. Also use a high quality semi synth like Castrol GP4. The manual recommends 10w40 oil, which I use in winter, but in summer I use 20w50 as it gets very very thin and you have no doubt noticed, the gearbox gets very notchy in hot weather. You have kept it very clean, been through winter yet? Mine came out OK apart from the forks, the wheel spacers and brake actuation arm/spring dissolved. Cont >

  • That box is an air suction/injection system for emissions. The carb is on the other side. :)

Its a good carb too, no rubber in it. Old school downdraft action. Means it will last forever ..

MAJOR TIP: Make sure you wax the forks in wet weather/winter as they will pit very quickly and destroy your seals in no time. I had mine changed under warranty, very annoying. Also, the vavlves need doing every 1000 miles (its only a 15 minute job) for the first 5000 or so miles. Cont >

  • "as u can see its got a chain" pmsl

  • Hey :P it might have been belt driven ;) think about it.

  • nice vid, but i only managed 65mph tops on mine on the flat. they should have kept the fully enclosed chain but the electric start is a nice touch

  • thats not the carburetor

  • i have got 105 + but i suggest u dont try cuz u got bulky box over ur seat.and my tires are 18 no thicker than yours plus the shade and head light are more attractive than urz just wait for my video.

  • That is utter rubbish. Maybe a 150 or 170 head, but the 125 head and EU configuration will not pull past 65 mph. It simply isn't geared to go any faster, except down a steep decline.

  • my honda cg 125 goes 65-70mph top speed, which is 2006 model so stfu you dont no what ure talking about.

  • Not on the flat it won't. Maybe down hill, and only if you weigh less than 12 stone and are wearing a leather jacket and a full face helmet. Also there would have to be absolutely no headwind at all. Something that is not very common in the UK.

So ok, yeah, it might do 70 mph under the conditions but that's obviously not what most people will get, most of the time.

60 mph is about as good as it gets.

If you can't be civil btw, I recommend you keep your thoughts to yourself.

  • It is geared to go faster, look at the sprockets, i have a 1996 model with 16 - 39 sprockets, i also have a sachs xtc, the sachs will do 95 mph. The honda CG 125 does about 75 if tucked in enough. The sachs sprockets are 16 - 55 and the CG's are 16 - 39 which as you should know down on the rear sprocket means more top speed, when you get to 95 mph on my XTC it bounces of the red line simply because the sprockets will not allow more than 97 mph - this has been proven sing calculations.

  • continued : Where as the CG sprockets would be able to acheive a much higher speeed but it has a lack of horsepower and has a very high drag coffiency, so in theory increasing the rear sprocket to improve acceleration should give it a higher top speed.

  • TBH I would have said the opposite. Until you sort out the drag, forget it. I have tested the bike on a decline and found it would continue to accelerate up to about 75, so maybe, if you could cut the drag in half ie. a proper fairing you might get some benefit from mucking about with the gearing. Diminshing returns though. Why bother? Just buy a ZXR400 and stop pissing about init. :)

  • I'm thinking of getting one of these in the not-to-distant future.

Nice video quality, next time, you should start her up, instead of just going around the bike.

  • Your bike my bikes older daddy. I have the new CBF125. I paid less for my CBF than you did for your CG. I paid £1795. Check out my videos if you want to see my bike. Good video! I'm sure the CG is running well :)

  • I bought mine about a week before the CBF was released, grrr. Oh well. I would say though that the CBF although better faired and having EFI is not a million miles different. The finish is better with better weather protection and the EFI is nice for cold starting in winter etc. The screen is a BIG bonus though and can't deny that it sounds much racier than the CG with that can on. Is the CBF a OHC engine btw? Or still uses pushrods?

  • I wouldnt risk it mate at 14. You will get your driving license banned before u even start driving, plus you are uninsured. That not fair on other drivers. Get rid of it and wait till you're 16 and get a ped, riding or driving uninsured is a pet hate of mine.

  • @Warrior2691 u can get an eletric ped at the age of 14 or over they do 30mph at the max and take 5 hours to charge that will cost u £2 and u dnt need a cbt or tax or mot or insurance, you just a helmet and to be the age of 14 or over but sum electric peds u do need insurance n a cbt but it depends on what voltage my mates 1 looks like a cheap chinese ped that can take him 20miles on a full 5 hour charge

  • on my cg 125 i can get 85 mph done straight

am only 14 :P and ive got one i ride mine to school every day never been stopped

  • I could only get 45 flat out on the CG that I tried!! Bet the chicks love your top box!

  • There must have been something wrong with it, because I weigh 19 stone and I can get 70 mph on mine.

  • Dunno, maybe.

This was one I hired . To top it all the bloody clutch cable snapped as well. Bastard thing.

  • Where did you get and how much were the top box and rails because im looking at getting 1 as im 17 soon.

  • Thanks for the comments, and no, it is not an import it is a genuine Honda motorcycle bought from a reputable dealer. Are you talking about top speed? Well considering the specified top speed hen I bought it was 65 I think anything faster is a bonus. I dare say I could have got up to 80, and probably more, but a) thats ILLEGAL, b) thats dangerous.

  • is that an import or a genuine honda? i have 08 model of honda cg and can get 80 out of it so u nust have brought an import

  • also, if you buy the "scooterbulb" by motrax I think, it costs about £10 and you get to change the crappy incandescant bulb for a halogen one which is much better

  • the helmet lock works by putting the d loop of your helmet strap through the pin and locking it

  • Very informative for anyone thinking of buying a bike. Thanks for this.

  • cheers mate! The box makes the bike so much more useful, as you can carry stuff with you and leave your helmet in there so you dont have to lug it all around

  • Nice bike, nice review.

Ive got an 08 Chinese copy of the old model CG125. Ive put a top box exactly like yours on mine, and I find I can get at least 2 carrier bags of shopping in there.

    Enjoy your bike. Ride safe.
