And at the same time, the big hit song "Seventeen" was extolling the attributes of the "hot rod queen, prettiest girl you've ever seen", the "hep cat doll of 17".
"Past 16, done been kissed / Graduated and got that twist / Kind of stuff I can't resist / At 17."
"17 and a half is still jailbait" LOL Ain't that the truth. Depends on the state/country of course. I first heard this song on a compilation which featured the Rolling Stones on the CD cover and included lots of excellent R&B, including Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It". I love that sleazy saxaphone on these songs!
if you think this is the first rapper then you havn't heard Louis Jordan,His music goes back to the 1940's & has a ryming to the beat with humerous but realistic lyrical content
What an intriguing "blast from the past"! Never heard the song until now. Strictly from coolsville, daddy-o! Quite a unique number...but very well done & quite engaging. THANKS for sharing it...you've made my day & my week! :)
I like the part at the end where he's talking to Mr. Judge and he's saying "fifteen, ...sixteen,..." AND there's this orgasmic saxophone honking wild in the background like some horny guy's crazy dick... Please Mr. Judge
I thought rap began in the early 70s? This sounds too slow to be rap, I would call it an angry blues song...You should listen to Ritchie Valens' Framed if you love this kind of song :)
Of course, you're right.but, still it struck me only when I heard this tune that the spoken forms of rock and roll have been around for a long time.....
You have for example Bo Diddley's dialogues with Jerome. "The signyfying Monkey" or what they were called. They where really funny as one tried to make a fool of the other or out do him. That kinda stuff, I think, have a rather long tradition in 'black' music.
Amazing powerful song

This is just terrible. It's like he was using a rhyming dictionary.
