Hes using and ebow ,slide, his whammy bar and his hand looks cramped . never again will i allow people to tell me there just hitting random strings ¬¬
@BackwoodsFilms every cd in the store was cracked or melted. my mom asked me to turn down the volume for this song. i touched the knob and i burned the skin on my finger.
I'll bet as they are playing, they aren't thinking: "I'm avant-metal right now" -or whatever They are focusing on the music, Just as any passionate band does, and just as a listener whos into it should. Instead of leaving pointless comments like all fucking day. Just kidding. I'm leaving one now myself: The only reason I hate genres. They never do a good job of capturing what the art or music actually is at it's core.
They're not considered avant-garde metal because most bands considered to be in that category utilize lots of xylophones, write songs with unbelievably immature lyrics and openly boast about their masturbations. Boris is definitely avant-garde, but they know what it means, and they know what Metal is all about, which is what makes them great. So they're not really "avant-garde metal," but they're certainly avant-garde and certainly metal.
I think of avant-garde metal as things like Fantomas, Kayo Dot and the like. I think most of the time (especially recently) Boris fall into pretty standard metal or stoner rock. They've ventured into the avant garde a little on some occasions (their work with Asami Akita and stuff) but I wouldn't go as far as to call them avant garde for that. Not to say I don't like them, they've had a huge influence on me, but there are much heavier bands out there than Boris.
They definitely have avant-garde tendencies (check out any of their albums with the word "no" in them). Like I said, they're not an "avant-garde metal" band, they're just a metal/stoner rock band that are stranger and more experimental than the average band. They're certainly not avant-garde in the Mike Patton sense.
man i saw Kayo Dot with Pelican and I thought they wasted their potential. They had like 9 instruments on stage and their songs were drawn out and boring and never really went anywhere. didn't utilise their potential for sure. just my thoughts
i saw them in orlando, fl this past summer. it was so! fucking! loud! standing by Wata... wow. i think i was hallucinating from so much feedback and volume. awesome experience.
Badass. I envy the fortunate, fortunate souls that witnessed this. Boris channels heavy.

I think Kayo Dot's compositions are beautiful, and not a note is wasted in any of them.
Also, you're saying they're songs never went anywhere but you went to see Pelican? They're one of the most boring "post-metal" bands.

It's Masami Akita, Merzbow...
and what was that? was that a contest of which band is heavier and that's the winner?
Come on!
