  • Thats near Kadena Elemantry School right? I'm trying to remember because i recently PCSed on January 29,2011 and miss Okinawa soooo much! But my aunty lived some wear near you and i lived in chibana family housing! oh how i miss my home! im stationed in robins air force base now sucks pretty much!

  • We had the same kind of apt. when we lived in Okinawa!!!!! I think our house was the one next door. Thanks so much! It brought back great memories!!!!!!!!!

  • one thing about japanese base housing is they give you a boatload of cabinet and closet space. I wasnt active duty, but live on Okinawa from 89 to 94 with my folks on Camp Courtney in the 10 story apartments. we had 3 bedrooms, 2 bath..and a ton of storage space in that place.

I wonder what some of the newer digs are like. That place when we moved in was already 15 years old...and this was 20 years ago..so i imagine the new stuff is even better.

    hey its free

  • hey girl i was wondering how is the lifestyle over there is it cheap or what we will be moving to kadena by feb and i have no idea how is it gona be my husbnd is ARMY and we have 3 kids so i'll apreciate if u can give me heads up of what ton expect ! tanx

  • Thanks for posting this. We had the same type of Apartment (but I had to be a SRA before I could get on base too). The blue bathroom tile was hilarious!!

  • Oh, you had the blue tile? Yuckie. Ours was actually the beautiful mint green that the Japanese favor so much. Uglier than sin! Our new place is much better and doesn't have the aestheic mishaps that our other place did.

  • Wow... You're an A1C. I had to wait until I was SRA to get an apartment at Camp Foster.

  • It took a little bit of sweet talking but it was really all about timing. We were one of the first people to move into these brand new homes so we didn't have to compete much.

  • hi i will be moving to kadena AB with my wife in may and we were wondering a few things. In the on base housing is the electric outlets us standard? also how long did you hae to wait until housing was available... i was told that they're building new housing so there might be a wait.

thank you so much in advance

  • Hello. We were worried about a lot of the same stuff you are. On base housing has both Japanese and American outlets so you will be ok with your electronics and what not. Kadena just built new officer housing and SNCO housing. Camp Foster (a Marine Corps base about 5 miles away from kadena) just built new housing too which I currently live in. There's a video of that on my page too. Just don't live off base unless you can afford it!

  • Yes, we are Air Force and we would love to use our BAH for a mortgage but unfortunately living overseas does not permit that unless you're very high ranking. It costs about $1,600- $2,000 for an apartment on Okinawa and that doesn't include the $400+ per month AC bill you have to suffer through for about 8 months out of the year. We would be poor, broke and hungry if we did that but it's definitely an option in the States. I too have a cousin who owns a home in Florida courtesy of the USAF.

  • Kinda looks like a Hayward pad, not too shabby, I bet you guys are happy to be in the new place though.

  • Yeah, it was sorta nice to have a place that resembled Hayward. But yes! Our new house is fantastic! It's kind of exhausting being suzie homemaker is a 2 story house though. It's so worth it. I hope you get to come out and visit. Maybe things will line up for you around the time Lou comes out. You can stay with us for FREE! Just pay for your ticket.

  • Thanks so much for posting! I'm actually moving to Misawa in January (next month). My husband and I have been debating about whether we want to live on or off base. At least now we know what to really expect in the townhouses so thans again.

Are the towers bigger than the townhomes? BTW, is the internet really slow on base?

  • Actually, this is on Okinawa (not mainland Japan where Misawa is). But I heard mainland japan is wayyyyy better and not nearly as hot as Okinawa. Japanese are minimalists so be prepared to live in a box if you live off base. People piss and moan about the internet but it's really not bad. You'll enjoy yourself very much, I guaruntee you!! BTW, the higher ranking you are the better the housing will be especially if you have kiddos.

  • hey are u guys off base or on base and if u r on base then are you in the north area?? please answer back thanx.

  • Hi im sure this was for ur family. But i really appreciate u posting this i have been searching for videos or pictures of housing out there but ive had no luck till now, ill be moving there july 08 thanks to ur vid i have more of an idea of what the space is, ok bye and thanks again if u can post more of just general post or more housing that would be cool

  • It's actually pretty cool. We heard all kinds of horror stories about how tiny housing is in Japan. It's is.... in mainland Japan. So you are good on space. Even the tower style apartments are spacy plus you have a decent size storage unit. No worries, I am sure you will be accomodated to your standards.
