@NoRosesForMe You might also enjoy some of the Electric Flags music...Buddy was their drummer for a while...and they had a strong horn section too. They do a fantastic rendition of Killing Floor!
@SkyeSpiral Oh yes definitely! hehe! xx I uploaded a Flag album on my channel a couple of years ago.(in playlist now) Awesome band. One of my big favorites! Thank you so much! ♥
@NoRosesForMe So glad thay you even heard of The E.F. lol...some peeps would go "who?". I'll have to go thru my discography to refresh my memory about similar groups that you might enjoy checking out...lol...if you aren't already savy to them.
I heard Buddy when he was drumming with Electric Flag. This track sounds a lot like them and I'm wondering whether it's Michael Bloomfield playing the guitar break. It sounds like somebody pretty good, whoever it is!
Buddy Miles Express played the Ramada Inn lounge in Kokomo, IN in the mid 80's. i was in highschool and didnt get to go....I heard ha had one of Jimi's strats w him and it was spray painted neon pink!
His recording of this cut, and its success on Billboard charts, were a direct contributor to and a major influence of later horn bands, most notably Tower of Power and Earth Wind & Fire.
I saw Buddy do this live at the very first concert I ever went to, in Memphis, in 1971, opening for 3 Dog Night.. I immediately bought a bass guitar and a subscription to Rolling Stone magazine and never looked back.
I was there..r.i.p. Buddy Miles...amor y paz !
Thank you for uploading this! Everytime I hear it I cant help but think of Formula 51( The 51st State) with Samuel L Jackson, best movie opening ever!
I saw him at least 3 times back in the early to mid 1970s in Sacramento. He was one of those "legends" who would dare and SUCCEED at bringing the "rock" (mostly White) and "funk" (mostly Black) audiences together; ala, Sly & The Family Stone, Cold Blood, Tower Of Power, Rufus & Chaka Khan, War, Malo, Santana, The Chambers Brothers, and quite a few more. These artists were only the MUSIC... The real SHOWS -- the ACTUAL SHOWS-- were the AUDIENCES!!!
I had one of his albums in college, the one with the same photo of his face on both front and back, but one of the photos had him winking. That album had several songs where his band just jammed for 4 or 5 minutes and those jams were worth the price of the album. Love to see if those tunes are on CD.
I came across this sweet tune at the beginning of this weird Sam L. Jackson movie called Formula 51, I think. I wanted to just skip to the end credits to find out who this was, but I made it through the flick first. Bad. Ass.
I'm new to Buddy's music, i listen to Band of Gypsys alot and often think he has such a great voice, so now i'm checking out his music, awesome stuff. But who wrote this? Hendrix or Buddy? Probably a stupid question lol
In 1969, the Damnation of Adam Blessing, (a band I played bass with) was playing a week at a club called "Beavers" on Rush St. in Chicago. About midnight in walks Buddy Miles with his entire band. (They were scheduled to play the following week),
He asked if they could come up and do a song on our equipment. They got up and did "Them Changes", for about a half hour. Buddy came out from behind the drums and fronted the band, what a night... (Also in attendance, "The Plaster Casters of Chicago".
@YukikoluvsShino4Eva Oh yeah marching band ftw. when we played the song it was only about 45 seconds long because it was cut so much and it moved at a faster tempo. Great song though
@Dmanthecritic not sure who did the solo but it was not Hendrix on this LP here was the line up :Buddy Miles ; Charlie Karp , Marlo Henderson, Jim McCarty , Wally Rossunolo; Robert Pittman , James Tatum ; Toby Wynn ; Lee Allen ; Mark Williams ; Lee Allen & His Band ; Teddy Blandin, Peter Carter, Tom Hall , Tom T. Hall ; Phil Wood ; Bob Hogins ; Phil Woods ; Robin McBride ; Andre Lewis ; Duane Hitchings, Dwayne Hutchings, Bob Parkins ; Mark Williams (; Fred Allen, David Hull
Eveytime I hear this I cant help but think of Formula 51 ( The 51st State for my brothers across the pond)! If you dont get the reference? Go look it up, its the opening song with Samuel L. Jackson rocking the Fro smoking a fatty in his 72 Buick lol
"Music died, it hurt my pride, but somehow I pulled through. Back in '72" Record exec's discovered there was much more money in tunesmithing out repetitive, dull crap that gets old in a month, then selling you more.
Wow, it does not surprise me. I too, am Texas and Texans are known to have the biggest hearts. Buddy Miles was a good man. I am glad to hear he did that for you. He was just saying his goodbyes when he called you. That is a lot of love there. Happy Birthday to you, as well.
@Klausspeedworks God bless. Im from this era. Buddy and Hendrix was fantastic New Years doing this song. I didn't think anyone could pull it off with out horns. But these super stars just smoked it. Any time I want to get a buzz or go back to that year I put this on. You are blessed to know this great artist.
Buddy Miles died on February 26, 2008, at his home in Austin, Texas at the age of 60. According to his website he died of congestive heart disease, His sister and mother both died of the same illness.
It is known that his heart had certainly been struggling, working at only 15%, and his health had been consistently deteriorating over the past few months. According to friends, "he had turned off his defibrillator and was ready for heaven.
My very first concert: Buddy Miles, Lee Michaels, and Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids! It was 1971 and I was to cool for school! 9 years old and it's still great music. I know for a fact that my 9 year old will not be re-visiting the stuff she's listening to when she's 50. Glad I lived to see it all.
Now, when Buddy sets himself down to ride that high-hat & sing, he stays focused til he's good and done. Excellent track - I've always loved this groove. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)
I just know Jimi, Buddy, Noel and Mitch are out there shakin the walls and choppin down mountains....thank you brothers 4 changin the lives of all us boogie chilluns
Love this album..thanks to my aunt that had this album when she was a teenage, 20yrs later I was handed the album. Buddy Miles at his best..from side 1 to 2
@tomthefunky band of gypsy's came out while hendrix was alive. but yeah that was what he was thinking of. Filmore east came out like within the last 10 years something, and that collection includes the other show at that venue with the band of gypsy's
I was blessed to play on stage with Buddy several times, WOW when I turned back to the drums (I was the bassist) he looked massive and then an angel of a voice sprung from him and we were doing Down By The River, I will never forget...he was truly the best at what he did....oh well he's gone and I will be too, thank you Buddy...b
@forfelix48 wow......goodness....cool on you honey. Mustve been he bes time huh? Thank you for sharing that with us. Pece & best to ya dear. ..wow......

People stop saying how much music has changed...and adapt to the changes.. your the same people who go to the club and dance to "your a jerk".. .. and if you don't then your too old....there's nothing i can do.
ok, you adapted yourself to lady gaga, britney spears, eminem, sean paul, madonna, ..... ; )
goooood for you !
please stop asking us ( like the majors ) , to adapt ourself to big pieces of shit , insults to the great musics that moves you without forcing ! the public used to choose. now, public has to adapt to wores who think that they can replace it by being sexy, but the public can resist. So go ! go hear your crap ! we will follow you ...
music has died because of some peoples like you who let the big companies fill them with shit, and now, good music is kinda "has been" everywhere because of this fucking atmosphear, and new groups don't need to do big efforts, don't need to be talented and reach the real deal. we don't necessarly need only musics of the past, but today we need some musics from today and the futur that would be at least as good as some of the past !!! this isn't the case at all, or rarely.
Damn, my mind is sure going through some changes, so I had to jam to this at least once today. One of the greatest songs of the 60's.

I play bass, and when I did it with a fuzz on to add in some of the originals badassness, I got yelled at so much! No matter, still a badass song.

Now, when Buddy sets himself down to ride that high-hat & sing, he stays focused til he's good and done. Excellent track - I've always loved this groove. Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)

No it's not. kyolddude. This is the original studio recording. Your thinking of the Band of Gypsy's album released in the late nineties.
