  • I went to hawaii last summer and I thought the cost of food and everything is pretty similar to Vancouver, maybe cheaper, these people shop at the wrong places.

  • I was on the Big Island in November - Target had bread for under $2 a loaf and there were many things there priced similarly to what I pay back home. Sure there are plenty of items that are not cheap, cereal for one, but don't buy your kids that crap! Cook like the locals & learn how to farm the area that you have. A family of 4 can eat off of a 20'x 40' garden quite nicely!

  • BUY LOCAL, SAVE LOCAL

  • This news propaganda video was designed to keep people from ever wanting to move to Hawaii. So what food is more expensive. Somehow people are managing right?! How many starvation stories has Hawaii produced?! Think for yourselves! News Propaganda does what its meant to do confuse the intended viewer!

  • @woodsrider117 mariomonsta is my other acc, my bad

  • @woodsrider117 yeah I checked it out, mostly for maui. 400gs wont get you more than 1k square feet and that's with a really small yard.

  • Unless air cargo, Intern`tl trade is proffesioanlized and cheap. So prices gotta be cartelized in Hawaii.

Besides middle class people today are way too bourgoise and snobby to work with their hands They prefer to study non-sense , dialectic careers for 30 years

  • And yet, papaya and starfruit are very cheap at the farmers market. Yum! Get a speargun, snorkel and fins, and you can eat fresh fish for free, everyday. Oh well, yep Hawaii is too expensive, don't move there (especially as I am moving to Pahoa next year, and don't want any of you there).

  • live like jason scott lee. that's how i'd like to live. unfortunately i'm stuck on the mainland.

  • why i prices so high? it is America right? you guys need to move to the main land

  • @mrfwest How about making a bridge!!!

  • We got half the people on food stamps , so the other half foot the bill.

  • @Tigersage3113mdc That's bs. don't make up stuff.

  • @woodsrider117 i LIVE HERE DO YOU?

  • @Tigersage3113mdc Yes I do live here. You like making up stats? List your sources... You can't because it's bull.

  • @woodsrider117 John Mizuno Legislator, majority whip, head of welfare: 12-11-2011

  • @Tigersage3113mdc List a link not a date and a name. I googled a bunch of times and it doesn't come out. There's supposed to be around 1mil 295 thousand living in Hawaii. You say half are on foodstamps. Thats stupid and a lie.

  • @Tigersage3113mdc Why don't you just google how many people use foodstamps in Hawaii....find the correct amount and correct yourself

  • @woodsrider117 John Mizuno: For da people!!!

  • Wow which island is $80k an acre? Is it average?

  • @Mariomonsta Check out the real estate adds. It's way more expensive than that.

  • theres free food in the sea and as for milk just make your own

  • @atomrocketcar last time i checked, that was the cows job...

  • I'm moving here woot woot can't waittt I'm still a kid too so I don't have to pay for anything haa woohooo

  • @TheWjl1234 lucky bastard lol jus kidding you really are lucky! :)

  • Join Costco. Save a bunch, I did.

  • Nobody said Farmer's Markets. I get a week's worth of vegetables and bananas for $20

  • Ha Ha!

    Hunt fo fish

    Live in hut

    kick out Owe'ly

    Wash your butt!

    Fuck a nice woman!

    Then surf!

  • One word: Coupons!

  • if that report is true, then that is a damn shame how much food is there. now i understand that everything is shipped in but c'mon...those prices are ridiculous!! damn how much for a bag of chips...a bottle of water...??

  • @88948895611499 Some of the prices are exaggerated as far as choices and some are not. You check out the real estate prices and the gas prices and the lower pay compared to the mainland also.

  • @musclecumkunt

Perhaps hawai'i's reputation is wack on the main land but the united states as nation is hated outside of north america. Get outside of your comfort u.s. bubble and you'll see the world's actual view of your mainland by the way your country leaders do things.

Your mighty empire is seeing its last days as a superpower. "Like all powerful empire in recorded history... What goes up must come down".

  • Comment removed

  • Total misinformation. Yes food is higher, but I live here and don't pay those prices.

  • Want cheap, eat at International Market Place. LOL

  • @musclecumkunt whats really funny is that you believe in this 2012 bullshit..why dont you get your head out your cunt.

  • @musclecumkunt fuck you

  • @musclecumkunt

Progress and evolution?! Are you serious?! Who are you trying to fool?

It's called oppression, greedy and selfishness! It is what the few with money do best, like the united states and your foreign policies.

  • It's called WALMART...go there and you'll be fine. I live there...trust me, it's not THAT bad.

  • @gabreezyBee I plan on moving there so some info would be appreciated. Is the walmart you mention over there cheaper? like how much a month would the cost be for groceries for one person? thx :)

  • no remorse!

  • @mahilaniv church

  • @RamoHaze

    ...church?

  • @mahilaniv church means i agree with you...

  • yourselves, learn to stand on your own feet and stop depending on welfare/government aid. Grow your own food, you have an abundance of resources even in the ocean. Enough going to restaurants and stuffing your face.

If hawai'i don't wake up and live and fend for yourselves the white man and his fat bank account will eventually dominate with his big house and expensive hotels.

I understand not every white man is evil but looking back in history, you fucked almost everything you step foot on with

  • @mahilaniv oh for the love of pete...we irish are white, do you have ANY idea how badly we have been abused? check out howard zinn's 'people's history of america.' my ancestors were completely obliterated by the 'christians.'

  • @mahilaniv Comrade, It's already happened. Where have you been?

  • This may not sound like anything to you locals but, EDUCATION can get you far in life. You can live off of the land, survive and be happy, stress free but the fact is Hawai'i is part of america. By now you should know MONEY AND POWER HUNGER=america. By creating all of these problems in hawai'i they are trying to push as many locals and hawaiians out of these islands. Most eventually end up on the main land working along side with the rest of us as slaves building this American Empire. Educate

  • @DonHamburger Yeah, we all deserve more. I believe in abundance, but certain forces hold us back from having our share. :)

  • @DonHamburger So I,ve heard...

  • isnt that the whole idea? I mean, the rich make the poor move out, they cant afford paradise anymore, move to the mainland, right? Leave the islands for the elite and powerful?

  • 80,000 an acre?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  • This is a lie. Check safeway.com

  • @Glop1298 Make sure you look at the prices in Hawaii. Safeway especially is super expensive compared to other stores...but it is open 24 hrs.

  • like i said- you lost credibility with the"ape" comment- and you were so intelligent up to that point....

  • nowonder the people are so angry they get raped day to day dont move to nz

  • @MAORIBOY1983 Naaah I wouldn't, NZ is full of earthquakes and close to cyclone country as a neighbor. Look I'm stuck here in Oz.

  • @fairkoala cyclones are good we get good swells off em

  • so what's the equivalent minimum wage CNN? ptth...

  • @RevelationWarriors Min wage is no higher the West Coast maybe even less.

  • @justcallmeassinine no kids, don't drive, not afraid of work. be just like i'm living now, only with a cheaper apartment. i only rent the place i have for my dog. besides, this is only an idea in the air. im watching my nephew and still waiting for after the california big one...

  • @RevelationWarriors Thats a very sensible way to live...below not beyond yours means.USA is now beginning to follow you.Is this how you get by in Hawaii ? Good for you. :)

  • EVERYONE SHOULD BE GROWING THEIR OWN FOOD. Even the poor can do it. Everyone seems to freak out survivaling another week or month. No one should have to submit to a grocery store.

  • Move to alaska, only $10 for cereal

  • @TheKonohaWhiteFang7 what the hell? thats even worse!

  • @TheKonohaWhiteFang7 the price for cereal is worse now then it was back then btw....

  • Wow! I use to live in Waipahu. I always wanted to move back, but I hear horrible things. Like drugs and expenses through the roof. Is this true?

  • And why the fuck would u shop at a store that has high price items?? Go to fucking times or safeway or even walmart that is away from Waikiki or Alamoana. You can get some cheap food that is on sale and save money that way.

    Fucking idiots

  • @smoke10108 hahaha! WAL-MART!!!! nice! everything crappy and made in sweatshops. way to keep it local and support the aina.

  • @spruntfemalespray Amen to that! .........Fuck Oahu! ..Nothing but hood rats and trouble makers here. Fucking apes!

  • @smoke10108 the hood rats and trouble makers i can agree, but the "ape" thing just made your arguement look stupid-(waiting to see if you can lift your knuckle-dragging finger to give me a salute)

  • @hulaqte Well that's how they act like! Just saying!

  • where the fuck did this guy shop and on what island? it makes a difference! i lived in hawaii (on oahu) for 20 years and JUST left 2 weeks ago.

premium unleaded gas (92/93 octane) is about 3.65/gal.

the orange juice is correct, the cereal is about right, but the rest depends on where you shop. if you're military, you can go to the NEX, which is going to be your cheapest...not sure about costco and sams club because i dont go there.

but if you're not military... (continued)

  • @seangworld but if you're not military, this guy probably went to Foodland, which is more expensive for most items than say...Times. Go to times for most of your grocery shopping. From my experience, you get more meat for your money at Safeway though. At Times (no i never worked there), the cereal can be about $8 a box, but they always have sales where you can get 2 for $5. Milk prices differ too from store to store. They started bringing in this new brand of milk that is about 4 or 5 bucks

  • @seangworld 4 or 5 bucks a gallon, while other brands and stores will charge about 9 bucks a gallon.

on the outer islands, everything is going to be even more expensive. as i said, whoever this 'jerk' guy is, he needs to specify where he's shopping because he's a bit off.

  • If i were to work as a social worker or psychologist here, would i be managable

  • @Jerraider84 If you single or 2 dink (better) you can survive.

  • most of us get along here, don't let what a few folks say turn you off. also, the reporter on this video doesn't know how or where to shop! it is more expensive, but most of his examples are because he went to the wrong store!

  • Ugh! I'm planning to move to Hawaii next year. I'm glad I'm coming alone (thankfully I have no kids), but I'm still worried about how much things are going to cost down there. Oh well, the price you pay to live in paradise, right? :-/

  • @LibertineDeSade Don't worry, This video is over exaggerating, be worried about you're rent, that will be the hard thing. When everything comes together, yea its a bit more expensive, and you might need 2 jobs, depending on what you do...but for the most part its not as bad as they all make things out to be. Especially food. They dont mention that you can get cards for costco and farmland and stuff. Thats the expensive food costing that much.

  • @Mzkr95 You're right. Thanks! I'll def be applying for a Costco card. LOL.

  • @LibertineDeSade Your welcome (: After you live there for a while, you will find there are other ways to get by and stuff...But its paradise, of course its going to cost.

  • @Mzkr95 Very true. I just can't wait to get there!

  • @LibertineDeSade Yes, it will be very exciting for you! Have you ever been there before??

  • @Mzkr95 Nope. When I move there it will be my first time there. I needed to get away from what I was used to and I needed something completely new and foreign, without requiring a visa, so Hawaii seemed just right. I'm looking forward to exploring and getting to know everything about all the islands.

  • @LibertineDeSade Ohhh, yea its like almost every island is different from one another, so its pretty cool.

  • @Mzkr95 You sound like you're from there? Lucky I wish I grew up in Hawaii. LOL.

  • @LibertineDeSade Nope, not from there. Im actually moving there at the end of august....I have done ALOT of studying (: Super excited too, so I feel for you lol.

  • @Mzkr95 Oh cool!! I'll send you an friend add, we can swap stories!

  • @LibertineDeSade Okay cool (:

  • The greed of those damn whites living over there and running our country - this is why those damn prices to buy is so damn high. White people tell every lie and steal to line their pockets with riches and to make sure others they don't like are not wealthy like them. It is a damn lie that those prices for food need to be so high - it is all these damn white people cheating and robbing people and trying to make people think it needs to be this way - look at what they did to the gas prices

  • @crazydaysful Is this how Hawaiians really feel about white people? I'm looking at moving to Honolulu. I've always had lots of asian friends, so other than being a minority for once in my life I figured I would get along just fine in HI...

  • @crazydaysful There are people of various ethnic backgrounds running the US..

  • Why does the newscaster refer to people of Hawaii as "Hawaiian" when most of the people living there are foreigners illegally living on Hawaiian ancestral grounds anyways? Just wondering how someone could be so comfortable with saying something like that.

  • how do all the hawaiian women afford all that food to get so fat?

  • woah what with the hate on youtube? As a fellow Hawaiian, we should buy local instead of relying on foreign sources...why buy elsewhere, when u can grow in your own backyard? i guess some people are lazy and need the pesticide infested produce haha :-)

  • this is soo sad. these people dont really no shit about hawaii. wen he was ackin like a hawaiian is somebody that lives there.

  • If u going broke den move back to your homeland

  • @WataAtaCrackah to bad, we howlies are just going to keep coming, your islands are part of america, and if you thick headed locals havent noticed, AMERICA is free. if we stopped everything with hawaii you guys would be a poor, dirty third world country like haiti be thankful america is part of it.

  • @glitchez then again. another stupid fuk who dont know shit about hawaii. eh dumbass. this is not haiti and nothing close to it. get the fuck off the islands. poor, dirty third world country????? pfffff hahahahaha u dont know shit dumb haole.

  • @96792qwerty i dont need to know its history, its nice looking so i can live there if i want its part of the usa, so can any other race. The funny thing is your acting jsut like all the other racist idiots, giving hawaii its bad name. Racism is so immature and cose minded. to bad you still are stuck in that shity mind set.

  • @glitchez Dude, grow a conscience, you're living on stolen lands. How would you like it if someone kicked you out of the house you lived in all your life and told you to never come back or be killed on site? That's what happened and still happens to Hawaiians. Put the shoe on the other foot......not so nice, is it?

  • @fijikid80 is it happening to you right now? no it isnt deal with it thats life, humans are stupid and always will be, no land is "someone's land" were all humans and this is our planet we can live wherever we like, no matter what race or continent, people need to grow an open mind, yes its wrong to take from someone like whites did to native americans, it would be better if we could all have peace living were we want instead of taking land.

  • @glitchez Dude, what you're saying is simply a justification of every evil thing done to native peoples worldwide by Europeans and Americans. You wouldn't be saying that if it happened to you, now would you? It's easy to say one thing, but when it actually happens to you personally, I'm sure you'd have a different opinion. That's all I'm saying.

  • @fijikid80 actually yes i would be having the same opinion, we people dont know how to let things go.

  • @glitchez I'm 1/8 Navajo and my grandmother is Spanish and Navajo. My grandmother's ancestors chose to assimilate. Those who didn't actually have it very well. They have many extra freedoms with which they can govern their land, which is quite expansive in many states. Say what you want but America's forefathers were quite compassionate. Most settlers would completely destroy or eradicate other groups that got in the way. We said assimilate or live independently on reservations.

  • @glsracer How were America's forefathers compassionate when it was US government funded campaigns to eradicate Indian tribes altogether? Navajos were hit extremely hard, but they survived and are the largest Indian nation today. Those who endured and still endure reservation life are the real troopers, where the land is so dry you can't hardly grow anything and rivers rarely flow. I know plenty of Navajos and rarely any of them like the US and what it's done to their people and lands.

  • @glsracer yeah im 1/5 cherokee and it even shows on me a bit, so yeah our forefathers were maybe a small bit more compassionate. i mean they still did slavery and all, its safe to say theres no perfect peaceful place in this world's history, we never learn theres always going to be taking, killing, racism, slavery, genocide, and etc. unfortunatley we humans are to dumb to be peaceful, id love for everyone of every race to get along but thats a fairy tale.

  • when are people going to stop putting up with this crap.

  • This CNN VIDEO is just BULL CRAP....I live here and as of 02/20/10 these prices are COMPLETELY FALSE!

It is clear this family doesn't live in Hawaii nor does CNN because if they lived here they would know Locals here get membership prices we also go to Walmart, Costco, Sams and best of all Don Quijote for all our fresh produce...If the intention is to scare people from visiting or moving to Hawaii more power to them...A-HOLES!

  • @WAYDESWORLDHAWAII

This was back during the global food crisis.

  • and it's true that there ARE ghettos and people generally are not so welcoming, let's face it. and the crystal meth situation has completely eaten the soul of many hawaiians as if we need that. but still there are smiles on faces and hope in the people and the land. maybe you can go live in a place like sri lanka even better camden, nj or baltimore, md or detroit, MI then you will realize what you had. You will be crying like a lil baby thinkging about those chickens .

  • @jmagnuslee the reason we don't want more mainland people here is we want our land back the americans arrested our last queen in her house and americans voted us into the states no one needs to get hurt just give us back our land

  • @WataAtaCrackah yea but do you guys hate on the people from the mainland that of come to Hawaii to be a part of your culture and repect Hawaii for its natural beauty and dont think they are greater then your power?

  • @Mzkr95 its a long story... we don't "hate" people from the mainland just the fact that some Americans overthrew Hawai'i's Kingdom and that most American families voted for Hawai'i's Statehood. In other words The Kingdom of Hawai'i was overthrown illegally, and claimed in the U.S. I'm pretty sure anyone would be pretty mad if that happened

  • @WataAtaCrackah I would be mad and I hate the U.S. and their government. Its very crappy. I definitely do not agree with what the U.S. did by claming Hawaii as a state. I think its kind of stupid actually. We have the entire U.S., (not including Alaska, and Hawaii) that is surrounded by ocean, so why take over your only paradise...I dont know. Like I said the goverment is crappy...and stupid. But anyway, what kind of people from the mainlander do you not mind and what kind do you hate the most?

  • @WataAtaCrackah mainland*

  • @jmagnuslee Meth problem is everywhere we have it bad here in California.

  • first of all, if it was not for the americans, you would be writing this comment in japanese and the place would be like guam. so don't get on the usual- the man is keeping us down b.s. get off your fat ass and get a job. and as for hawaii being mexico of the pacific, how old are you? have you seen any armed guerillas and the national army fighting over a drug empire where kidnapping is an every day reality. either you must be a hostess from okinawa or ignorant ass californian. stay home!

  • @jmagnuslee no we wouldn't "Americans" led the the Japanese to Hawai'i in WWII

i.e. Pearl Harbor and Who's got our jobs in Hawai'i? Americans plus Japan wouldn't take us anyway fiji (no offence to fijians) was closer to Japan than Hawai'i

  • @WataAtaCrackah Well, us Fijians were fighting against the British during WWII unfortunately, while having to fight in their army against the Japanese. All native islanders are always welcome in Fiji since we all have been through foreigners invading our shores, stealing our lands, killing our people, outlawing our cultures, etc. The Samoans, Tongans, Rotumans and other islanders in Fiji are treated like brothers and sisters since we've been through the same stuff, as long as Fijians rule Fiji.

  • All that money to finance the stinkin American and his filthy yaht whores.

  • Too many dirty gringos for my taste.

  • This is exactly why I decided against applying for a job there.

  • no big shock in prices... move to Hungary - that will surprise you... especially after you see how much people [dont] make each month.

  • DIS GUST ING. greeeed.

  • a gallon of milk costs $4.00 @ walmart. where did they get these statistics? An ABC store? xD

  • It seems likely the cost would be less to buy a gallon of

    Hemp Seed Milk

    (blended hemp seeds and water)

    than cows milk

then we get our protein in a more usable form with the added benefit of healthy Omegas!

    Omega-3

    Omega-6

    (Alpha / Gamma) Linoleic acid

It would probably take far less land to raise hemp than cows! Save the ozone, save animals, grow and eat hemp!

  • Amen to that! Hemp seeds are considered vegetables and are one of the only ones that contains all 8 amino acids essential to mammal life. :)

  • How do people survive there? In the long run, it can only get worse with natural oil being a limited resource.

  • We travel there lost and have been for years. I would rather be in Hawaii than Mexico any day. Have to pay the price for living in Paradise.

  • i like mexico. at least down there, they're not mean to you because you're from the "mainland". but, that's only my opinion. cheers.

  • I honestly have never had a problem with the Hawaiian locals. Late August this year I'll be there again for my 13th time. I have been to Mexico too and I don't dislike the place, I just prefer Hawaii more. Something about being on those islands, they are the most remote islands in the world. I dig islands probably because I live on one myself. Cheers

  • Me and my friend say that hawaii is the mexico of the pacific. haha, it's kinda true. i see chickens a lot; also there's a lot of ghettos here. :D

  • Not where I stay in Hawaii you won;t see chickens or ghettos. Been to Mexico twice and don't have a desire to return. I rather pay more fr a good vacation where I can drink the water right out of the tap. It's Hawaii for this guy.

  • as far as the price of products go...it seems alot like northern saskatchewan communities

  • damn, well there goes my dream. lol.
