How come newer cases have the Power Supply Unit placed along the bottom, yet the older ones (like here) tend to be near the top? Heat rises right, so wouldn't the top be better? To immediately get rid of the heat produced by the PSU.
I dropped my new hard drive (a sick Western Digital Black) off my desk the other day. I had mounted it in a SATA external drive case, and I wasn't familiar with how to secure it yet... It fell 75 centimeters (2 and a half feet). And amazingly it runs just fine.
DO NOT try it at home though, I may have just been lucky. That, or WD makes solid stuff.
It's a card you plug into the motherboard through slots known as "PCI" or "PCIe". A side of the card shows through the back of the computer, and there are ports on this side. Usually VGA or HDMI, things like that. You plug in your monitor into one of these.
Most motherboards have the same thing built into a microchip (called a GPU), so the computer will still run without a graphic card. But games and stuff run better with a dedicated card.
@fbvrc I'd take the cheapest because RAM is basically RAM if it has same speed & timings. But sure, Corsair is a great brand and you'll be fine with Corsair RAM.
You should buy the same type of ram for all slots unless you know what your doing. Also, some CPU Coolers come with preapplied paste. Don't add any paste if that is what you have.
Good - abit outdated but how can you stay in touch these days. Just so people know - not taking a stab at the guy but people should know that he forgot to set the jumper on the HD so that it boots. Although it's too much paste on cpu, I would rather have a little too much than not enough and try to spread it evenly. When you install ram, it should be noted he put one in the 1st slot of the green and one in the 1st slot of the orange. Other vids will show you the ram install if u need it.
I love the way he explained everything he was doing and using. I'm taking a pc repair course now. Haven't gotten to the practical part yet but looking forward to it. He makes look so easy. Great video!!!
Helpful, informative and well delivered. This is a great vid, especially for one making their first computer. It explained the different components but just scratched the surface of building a computer. I hope there are more vids.
To all of the trolls out there. The video is named "Learn to Assemble" which gives the general idea of what to do/what to consider. Of course, once the main idea is taken in to consideration, further factors can be considered....The guy is just doing his job, teaching people who don't yet know. I study computer science and have had a knack for computers since i was a toddler. I think this man did a brilliant job...Be thankful people like him offer videos to retards like you.
I enjoyed the video immensely. Thank you. I do think, however, that the speaking speed is a bit fast. I had no problem understanding the speaker's accent, but there might be others who are unable to understand the speaker because of the accent and the speed. Instructional videos should be crisp and immediately understandable. The speaker's accent and speaking speed get in the way of these two objectives.
Too much thermal paste and ram dimms are not on dual channel mode. Same colour = same channel = dual channel... Different colours = different channels = single channel
taking into account that this was madwoman in 2008 that is why he was saying amd uses ddr2 nowadays it's ddr2 and ddr3 depending on ur budget andbid ur a casual pc user or a gamer or extreme gamer
TheHughDixon, in these days you only need to worry about the motherboard: get one from £120 and higher and most of the graphics cards will have a PCI connector which your motherboard will certanly have. :))
I have a AMD phenom 2 x4 955 CPU but for some reason my stats dont go higher then 800.1 MHZ x4 I think my BIOS is the prob but can someone help me please?

so, i suggest you visit MSI's website and start looking for the manual of this motherboard, through a little googling i discovered that this is MSI's P7n Diamond board, look for the manual and scroll down to the memory mounting page. You'll see i'm right ;)
by the way, he mounted the ram the right way, i got the msi p7n sli platinum wich is very similar to this one, the green banks is channel a, and the orange banks are channel b. so he mounted the ram the wright way

@Nightfox92 it is thermal paste, it help transfer the heat from the processor to the heatsync/fan to keep it cool(and he used too much of it)
