Drumstep is alot quicker than dubstep imo. I like it when im feeling hyperactive, but I <3 dubstep too though. Plus, dubstep going mainstream is a good thing. Producing it will be more rewarding, meaning more songs and better dubstep.

Although there is the risk of the producers getting lazy, wich I doubt will happen.

While I do see where you are coming from I can see a reason to the sub-genre existing, I've heard of much more arbitrary subgenres.

To be honest you could make your argument for a lot of subgenres, the truth is though as a style gets more popular it expands, look at it in the brighter sense; Evolution of music we love!

Dubstep has nothing to do with drum and bass. it evolved out of two-step - a genre related to garage - hence the 140bpm tempo. It had a lot of dub influence in the early sounds. Drum step is just half tempo dnb as described. DnB and dubstep have got close in culture because they're both half step. A lot of modern dubstep producers used to write drum and bass.
