You were not stuck, you have to press up in just the right spot (somewhere near the bottem on the ramp). I normally press up about the middle of the ramp and it works. This took me about 20 mins of messing around to figure out. Also the video is wrong about survival, you have to destroy 45 ships to advance from escaping the death star.

I got to the falcon, and was stuck there...I couldn't get into it. It was a bug or something. It took me a whole freaking day to get to there after those fucking spikes.

I was so pissed I never played again.

I hated that goddam frieken elevator/spikes/EVERYTHING in the Death Star. you did it. AMAZING

Wow, I remember this. I remember giving up because that level you just lost Leia on with all the spikes was impossible for me!! I never made it back to the Falcon... whimper... this is probably the only game to have ever beaten me!!
