  • can i just say My name is Bronwyn and my middle name is Amanda how creepy is that?!?!?!?!?!

  • You've come so far(: ignore the haters. Yes, she's a little off to the right, but land softer in the saddle and It should be fine. I'm an over weight rider, but I'm 15 and TALL. I'm 5'9 my horse is 16.3. When i was trying him out I was afraid I was too heavy, every time someone wants me to ride their horses I get very self conscious. But I learned to take it slow and land as lightly as I can, and I'm fine(:

  • you re doing good all the luck to you

  • Today, November 1 2011 I start a new leg of my weight-loss journey. I've always been a plus size girl, and I want to stay that way, but I need to slim down. Horses are my passion and I want to ride again. Thank you for inspiring me!

    Much love

  • You go girl!

  • how she get on the horse?

  • With a mounting block, like many riders both thin and fat. :)

  • @afatgirlafathorse

    ps: love your horse :)

  • @afatgirlafathorse

im a littlebit overweight and i get really selfconcious when i ride infront of people :(

    your brave

  • you are an elegant rider and you are very responsive to your beautiful horse's needs. I am a lightweight rider but have my own major obstacles, we ALL do! Some are visible to others, some are in our head. The longer I ride the more I realize I know nothing at all. Congratulations on your success. Keep up the awesome work! You are an inspiration :-)

  • I looove you! A good exemple. So many people say that «fat» people can't ride horses.. Jesus they are stupid!

I'm not fat, but some thinks I am (I'm not anorexic.. that's the differance). That's for your vids! ^^

  • Nice to see you on a horse you are happy with. I am a big fella (bigger than you :) ) and so I am looking at getting a Shire horse next year, as a reward for the weight I am losing this year. Just ignore the ignorant people that decide they have to make themselves feel better at someone else's expense. You have a horse that fits you well and that's awesome. Congrats, you two look comfortable together.

  • Both of you are beautiful. You are lucky to have found each other! I wish you many more years together.

  • Beautiful horse(: great bond!!!!!!

  • looks like u guys have a great bond! check out my videos, I am a plus size rider with a draft too :D

  • well done on loosing the weight

  • Awsome !!

  • It's an inspiration watching you and your girl. I started riding when I was four yrs old and my family kept horses til I was well into my teens, so I spent a lot of time riding when I was younger. Would love to get back into it again, but I have gained quite a bit of weight and always thought I was too big to ride. Just goes to show that both rider and horse can both be just fine with the situation. Would love to own a percheron or a draft cross like yours!! Keep up the good work!! : )

  • now ur doing it right! I mean big girl on small horse=no but big girl on draft horse even if it is a cross is good! I gave a thumbs up to you and your beautiful horse!

  • @TheJubjub1310 It depends on the 'small horse' - draft ponies, halflingers and fjords can be good mounts for plus sized riders - a lot of it depends more on length of back and strong loin, as well as strong bone rather than height, etc. But yes, this mare is more than suitable for what I want to do - I have lost about 50lbs since this video - check out my most recent vlog for a little bit of video of me riding now.

  • @afatgirlafathorse 50lbs? wow! congrats! I wish You the best of luck with You riding.

  • Happy riding!

  • do you jump?

  • @noodlemonkey6 Not at this point in time. I believe I may want to pursue dressage with this horse, I am not sure. Overall, I am working now on getting lots of miles on her and getting her out and around lots of different things. She went to her first show a couple of weeks ago (just did in hand), will go for an english pleasure class on the 25th and may try out cattle penning on October 2nd. :)

  • @afatgirlafathorse dressage! rofl

  • beautiful! What a blessing for both of you to find each other. Being the mom of a plus sized rider I know how hard the equine world can be for riders that aren't stick thin....from finding show clothes to saddles. Happy riding!

  • @missy5sewing Thanks! I am really fortunate - my mom actually runs a small side business sewing beautiful showmanship tunics and other show clothing... the majority of her custom order customers are, indeed, plus sized horsewomen! They can finally get the same gorgeous intricate showmanship tunics, etc, that you can only buy elsewhere in small sizes for reasonable prices.

  • beautiful! What a blessing for both of you to find each other. Being the mom of a plus sized rider I know how hard the equine world can be for riders that aren't stick thin....from finding show clothes to saddles. Happy riding!

  • i would get off that horse because your going to crush her!!!!

  • Almost a year later and she's still not crushed...?

  • @ashley5445 okay Katie or Ashley, I'm getting really tired of your attitude. You don't seem to realize that Bronwyn is not an any discomfort or pain. Read up on how a horse distributes its weight and rider's weight on it's feet. This horse was clearly enjoying herself. Think before you comment.

  • @ashley5445 how did you become so knowledgable about horses, WOW!! Wish we could all be as clever as yourself...

  • You have a nice, comfortable seat on that horse! I have a friend that rides with us who is a plus size rider, but she can't quite center her seat and almost seems to let it throw her out of the saddle when she picks up her pace. I am sure once she has more experience she will ride as beautifully as you! Gorgeous horse too! I love the draft mix!

  • Thank you for the compliments! Some riders have a hard time breaking at the hip. That is where I find that most problems with balance and centering their weight comes from - being unable to relax enough to let their hips move with the horse instead of trying to keep themselves perfectly straight and "under control".

  • Sorry, this is me (A Fat Girl A Fat Horse) - was signed in under my sister's account and can't figure out how to delete a previous comment!

  • @AgilityPup or afatgirlafathorse Absolutely... she rides western, so she uses her hand a lot on the horn to keep herself in place. It gives her a less control over her mount, who has a bit of a hard mouth... so when her horse gets a little faster than she would like, she gets scared, then she breaks down. And to me I feel bad for her because it just seems like if she could get that balance, she wouldn't feel so insecure when her horse moves.

  • im a plus size rider as well...i have a haflinger.

  • oo what is the name of this song?

  • It is "Weightless" by See Spot Run. :)

  • well the owner is suppoosed to buy her back this sunday if she doesnt I will start the trainning process. Im limited though I know some things but not all I can do ground work with her and put a stop on her and desensitize her. she is good in the ring but hates cows! scared to death she was doing fine on our trail ride and she saw a cow and bolted infront of traffice with me. its hard doing a one rein stop on a draft hahah but I held on!!! thats not easy for a big girl like me!!!

  • that horse is better behaved than my 10 yr old percheron! ugh Im jealous haha, my horse is great in the round pen but spooks in bolts outside of the pen blah still working on it.

  • @boskox She does well outside of the pen as well - we have done a couple of trail rides both with other horses and by ourselves... she didn't used to be so easy going though!

  • aww Brinwyn looks so cute with her tail X3 lol

  • Aw thanks! I have to keep it braided up because it becomes a hot mess if I let it go loose.

  • what a nice and cute horse. I have been looking for a small draftie if possible. how big is he in hands I mean? it can be difficult when plus sized to find suitable horses that are stocky enough without be so tall that you have to kill yourself getting on/off.

you look good and he seems to be going good for you and nice weight too.

    RRR

  • Bronwyn is about 15hh. She is some kind of draft cross, we are not sure about her breeding since she was a rescue... But stock horses can also be appropriate, too. Look around my channel and find the link to my blog - I've written an article about choosing appropriate horses for plus sized riders and how they don't always have to be drafts or draft crosses. Another great breed that I recommend in the "smaller" draft type category are Canadian horses - they are light drafts usually less than 16hh
