  • funny

  • Wingnut4427 would be right.

during the beginning draw bridge sequenence..when you see the tentacles press Sword and then go up. The next scene should be the room with the crumbing ceiling. Wait for Dirk to shield his face away from the rubble and press RIGHT to exit the door.

  • Sega CD ... sword & the press up

  • Wow this guy sucks at dragons lair

  • you shouldnt review games you dont know shit about, like the sega cd dragons lair, which is just like the arcade....

  • Seriously, you're not and never will be the ANGRY VIDEO GAME NERD. So please, stop.

  • Well the snes version at least is better then the nes!

  • space sword, arrow keys

  • Comment removed

  • Let me help you here. I own and have beaten the Sega CD version on headphones alone.

during this drawbridge scene, your supposed to press UP the moment the tentacle eyes appear onscreen. This scene was original cut but remained locked on the true laserdisc game.

    Your welcome

    J

  • @jasondracd Hey dude, I just got this game on sega cd, and I'm just as bad as this guy. Is there anyway you could help me out with the controls and game play. I'd be in debt to you forever lol. Really though can you please help. Thanks.

  • Amstrad was not "one of the consoles of the eighties", but a quite powerful personal computer of his time. Check before you say something.

  • "Now I have a machine gun, ho ho ho".

  • the sega cd is an arcade port and if you ever played that you wouldn't hate the sega cd port.

    so yeah

the sega CD version might suck but the animated movie type of gameplay is what people were looking for from the arcade.

  • Danka for your hilarious game review bpbrother, you are very entertaining :)

  • i beat the Sega CD One it's really not that hard.

  • Really ? obviously your use to games playing themselves for you. You should do research on the Laserdisc games and learn something

  • Ich hasse Bruno?

  • he has the best accent life could give :)

  • if you took the time to learn the laserdisc game you might have enjoyed it . the other ones sucked

  • The original is a movie with timed events, that was the whole point to begin with. It was 1983 man. Back in the day was way cool.(And to me still is).

  • what country are you from brother ? Do I detect a bit of German in there ?

  • The NES version looks like it would be more frustrating than fun. Games are supposed to be FUN. Jeez!

  • Funny stuff. I liked your commentary. I tried playing a C64 version once. It was worse than all these.

  • Are you shitting me? The C64 versions had the best gameplay of the lot!

  • The NES game is hilarious in my opinion, the SNES game is rather disappointing, the Sega CD version is pretty good once you figure out what to do, but my favourite game so far is the DVD version.

  • I had the snes game and boooooy if fuckin broke my heart....pure dunglol

  • Did you try swinging your sword when you fall through the hole in the Sega CD version? You're supposed to press the 'action' button to swing your sword. That's all. Least, that's how it works on the DS version on both difficulty levels.

  • On the Amstrad, it's fucking IMPOSSIBLE to beat the game! Worst game ever.

  • well if you tried speaking like an american instead of sounging like a uropean fag thinking your hemroids we saved your asses 60 years ago peter

  • Where do you think your from anyway's? English is not the native american language anyways.

  • uropean are you kidding learn to spell faggot.

  • The pain!!! The Pain!!!

  • You need to play the original laserdisc version dude... "it's more of a movie or something..."

DAPHNE man.... play Dragon's Lair on Daphne.

  • wolfgang fritzgerald... aaa...not soo.. bad.. looks like willow... any power up stations:

  • I beat the sega cd game. You must be playing the emulator. The real game is one of my favs of all time.

  • LOL THE ASTRAMAD VERSON SUCKS

  • The title screen and music was very very cool, but I agree. And I like to know if you played that shit... It was the most frustrating video game ever.

  • I like the sega cd and 3do versions

  • i agree great accent jack cuosto haha no realy very funny

  • Amstrad is a computer, not a console. ;-)

  • all dragons lair games has fantastic graphics and sound and HORRIBLE gameplay.nice voice, by the way :D

  • not horrible just diferent me likes it alot

  • Sega CD is based on the Arcade version, but from what I noticed there is no yellow indicator to tell you when to push a button, so that is the only beef anyone can have with it, unless you say delayed controls or whatnot, maybe even making fun of the story would be okay.

  • I don't think the SNES version of Dragon's Lair is that bad of a game despite it being hard at times but the rest all just god awful (arcade version excluded).

  • one thing's for sure. the NES version was awful and frustrating. it made contra and battletoads look like child's play

  • You've never played the arcade version of Dragon's Lair before have you?

  • The snes version, is the best version of the Dragon's Lair franchise. But nonsense dominates this game.

  • I've got the Sega CD version, even though I HAVE died on the first screen (a.k.a The Drawbridge), I'm smart enough to know that this was the earliest game that actually tried to be as close to the arcade version as possible. The only problem I find is that sometimes the controls are delayed at some points, either that or the time you need to press it is different from the arcade. That said, I just think you're whining over nothing.

  • Sounds like the medic from TF2.

  • I beat the game fine on Sega CD and on DOS DVD it's a direct port of the Arcade version, which they use to have in FunLand in Long Beach WA. Are you running it on emulator or somthing? You said keyboard... Mmm...

  • He's definately german ;)

And he often sounds like the AVGN.

  • The sega cd and the dos cd rom version of this game are both very good and fairly faithful to the original. You just don't know how to play. You're not hitting the right button at the right time.

  • You have the best accent in the world

  • Way to fuckin' suck at Dragon's Lair! The only room that was missing on the Sega Cd version was the Fire room with the ropes from the arcade

  • I played the PC-CD version (which is identical to the Sega CD one) and completed it (with a lot of patience and spare time, though). On the bridge screen, it's just using the sword when those eyed tentacles approach, then up when they kneel, and the level is completed. It's the easiest of the levels (You should check out the final level, that IS the meaning of difficult).

  • This guy obviously never played the arcade version

  • man you're one big idiot. PS2 games are the kind of retarded stuff braindamaged fucks like you should play. DL is a piece of history.

  • man du verdamter deutscher was musch alles nachmache

  • Try playing the C64 version. Great graphics and music by Rob Hubbard.

  • man this game was fun when i played it on the sega cd.

  • i played this on the SNES it was hard as nails.

  • Maybe you should play Space ace? At least in Space ace, sometimes your givin hints on what button to press, although at other times you have to try and figure it out.

Also, try not to button mash, because that'll just get yourself killed.

I'm not sure if Space ace is anything like Dragon's lair, but I though SA was great fun, and would love to try Dragons lair.

Also, to dawg098, he kind of sounds german to me.

  • Excellent review. I myself have never played Dragon's Lair, and judging by the clips shown, I dont much care to now. Thanks for saving me time and money. Props.

  • you probably didnt grew up in the nes generation.. this game was amazing to me when i was a kid.. u probably where born in the ps2 era

  • Interesting review, but I can say that it made me laugh when you kept on getting pulled under by the purple snakes at the bride. I really don't know why though.

  • Sega CD. Sword, up, right if it's like the arcade

  • whatever , this guy sucks. i used to love this game when i was a kid.

  • i just kept watching for the great commentary..nice vid

  • enjoyed this video

  • I suppose maybe you had to "be there" but the Sega CD/Mega CD version is at least faithful to the arcade game. The Amstrad version is a port of the Coleco translation from '84 or '85 I'm sure, due to the are I'll give it a bit of a pass, and the NES and SNES versions are just side scrolling bastardizations.

Seriously tho, the Arcade/Sega CD/any original type version of DL isn't that hard. Look up a FAQ and it'll give you all the button presses, and you just time them right. Try it sometime.

  • are you german or a she male you sound like 1 of those 2

  • he sounds chinese

  • ok we can tell it suck's just by the game play and its many bad review by you annoying people

  • is that your voice

  • I don't know if you've watched James the Nintendo Nerd too many times and are trying to emulate him. It's not working.

  • lmao "jump, good boyy" and you die

  • space ace numbner 1

  • Even though there was no instructions I beat the game in one day

  • ok....really...Dude...you need some sort of expression with your voice....Please o more talking in your videos, no offense but i just about fell asleep trying to watch it,....

  • great job man, in depth reviews and was helpful keep it up.

  • I sometimes pull this video up to get a good laugh at the guy's retarded voice.

  • this really sucks, *sorry, just being honest :/*

  • Well, I must look on the positive side: you've a nice voice!

  • I second this :|

This is just what I thought. He's even using the same lines like "Why did they thought this would be a good idea?" etc.

  • dude u just suck at games

  • offcourse it dosent work when you have it on your pc!

  • I WANT TO PLAY THE SECOND ONE

  • Hey, how can you know about my goat farm? Oh, wait a minute... that's why they get pregnant all the time. xD

  • oh, I am not sure... But i think Sega CD game emulated on computers sometimes dont show everything

  • By the way, the sega cd game was not that hard. i used to be able to get halfway through the game using my feet!! all you have to do is tap a direction or a button at the right time!! Its fairly easy.

  • while I've to say that I love Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and this kind of games (but played by ppl able to, not me) I found this "review" really funny, I think it's the way I'd react playing them for the first time. but it's true that looking at them now it's not fair, prolly for their times they were amazing. :]

  • yo bpbrother why don't you review the original Dragon's Lair laserdisc game? And stop acting like the angry video game nerd, at least he does what he knows best: reviewing his own games. Not like you: random whinning about games that you don't even own.

And for my opinion: LaserDisc Dragon's Lair was and still is one of the best videogames in history.

  • AVGN stole his ideas from the Something Awful LP forum

  • AVGN stole his ideas from the Something Awful LP forum

  • is this his real voice? sounds like your textbook german bad guy voice. like that Hans Kruber guy from Lethal Weapon

  • bad language, but not as bad as your shitty acent

  • This guy sounds like fucking Uwe Boll. His voice is making me angry! I can't watch this.

  • actually it was annoying at first because i thoguht it was fucking jap-lish or something, but once u get used to it its a pretty good review.

  • never trusth a green cankaroo >:C

  • LOL

  • I laughed so hard at the end

    ... greeen kangaroos!!!!

anyways i played the snes and segacd dragons lair and i have to say these games are some of the worst games ive played in my life... another game by another name would fail horribly

  • This is funny as hell!

  • The Door of Death is deadlier than the Touch Of Death

  • I really dont think this guy was right about the segaCD one becuse it was probably a good arcade port.I have never played the segaCD one but I think it was good

  • it was. i have the sega cd port and its the same as the arcade. This guy was wrong about it.

  • Whoops forgot, you need to press sword on Sega CD, then press up.

  • The timing is just a little different, but I guarantee you, if you get it right you can beat the Sega CD version. I own the Sega CD version, and I remember I beat it. I remember I did think the first part was hard, though, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it can be a lot of fun. Just hit up at the first stage, and you'll get inside the castle.

  • FUCK YOU DUDE

on the sega cd version, they're just bringing back what made the game fun in the original arcade game. The POINT of the game is to memorize it.

  • MORON!STFU to memorize a game more you must enjoy it lol!

  • wow, this game is gay. Really, you hit a wall and you die...lol. But really...*sticks up middle finger* "Fuck you dragon lair"!

  • How the hell can a knight roll up into a bubble as soon as he hits the water? Isn't he supposed to drown?

  • I can agree that the 2D side-scrollers suck bad. BUT!!! I do have to say that I have played the Sega CD variation of Dragon's Lair on PC and totally pwned it. I even use to pwn the Sullivan Bluth variations (Escape From Singe's Castle on Amiga and PC and Curse of Mordread on PC) from the age of 5 and got bored once and replayed them blindfolded about 5 years later to mix it up (and beat it of course).

  • AHAH :) ur funny!

  • You know I played the PC version and beat it. I rule you all, suckers! And I love the game to death :)

  • ooooh! your hardcore

  • You reviews are hilarious.

Ignore all these stupid comments, they are just American children and they are so retarded they think you are French.

  • Don't be rude to others, just cause their opinions don't match yours. It's childish to call people names and descriminate which is what you are doing!

I'm not American, I didn't make any negative comments, and I can tell he's not French.

  • at least now with youtube game makers can be panned for making rubbish

  • Man, this guy's voice is so gay.

  • cos he's french u arse

  • He's GERMAN!

    Didn't you hear the "sinking"?

  • YOU'RE gay, his voice rocks.

    Accents = god tier.

  • kangaroos?

don't be ridicules, they're GREEN kangaroos.

  • echt ma lol red deutsch du windei ~.~

  • Speak yourself, FFS! That crappy computer-voice sucks ass.

  • That's no computer voice. That's just a very heavy German accent.

  • I have played the arcade, and I play the movie version on my PC and DVD player...

  • I like and don't like Dragon's Lair (the FMV version) because of one thing: It doesn't tell you what to do, which is annoying... but it tests your skill of making snap decisions, and common sense, what would you do if that monster under the bridge was trying to get you? Frighten it with your sword, and climb up, then run towards the door! DUH!

  • as to the 'buttons not responding' thing, once a button is pressed for an 'action' all other presses are ignored until the next 'action'. At least the arcade would gives you a visual clue early on, this version does not!!

  • Vwhat about other dragon lavirs games?

do vhey suck monkey balls az vell?

sorry dude ur accent cracks me up

  • "What are those things? Kangaroos? Why are Kangaroos out to kill me?"

    LAWL

  • dude you rock!

  • lol bashing Dragon's Lair cause it's "popular"

  • Do you wanna watch a PROPER review of this game?

Want to know how to understand and play this game?

JUST CLICK ON MY NICKNAME AND SEE!!

  • lol roms

  • "Why are kangaroos out to kill me?" LOL!

  • You don't know how to play ANY of these games. You really suck.

  • Gotta take a point there. Dragons Liar rules as a wicked animation, but the controls are just freaky. I guess all game testers defined the word playability as an own checkbox after this one.

  • yep. ^^ and besides, i've got the DVD of Dragon's Lair, and i've beaten it! o.o;; lol

  • btw, I think your sega cd emulator is f*cked..I have the original for the sega cd right here, and I CAN play it....

  • AVGN ripped me off here, lol j/k.

  • He got requests to do the review, i bet many other magazines and shows in 25 years has done a review about games.

  • Dude read when the video was posted.. 3 months ago. AVGN only did it the last few days

  • if your playing an emulated version of Dragon's Lair for the Sega Cd on your computer it makes perfect sense why the controls wouldn't work. The Sega Cd version is a port of the laserdisk version and for it's time it was pretty awesome. those other platforms tried to make games based on the laserdisk version and failed miserably. the original dragon's lair was meant to be like a movie. that was the whole concept.

  • ok, i can agree that yeah, the other versions are pretty bad, except for the Sega CD one, so please, don't diss it because it's just trying to immitate the DVD or Laserdisk versions.

  • I agree I still Have The Sega CD Version of Dragon's Lair. The Games Video Quality is Better Than Power Rangers or Bram Stokers Dracula For Sega CD

  • that prove's my point! thanks :)

  • LOL the embryo in a bubble!

  • OMFG. Okay I can sympathize with the platform versions of the game, but the SEGA CD version and all other versions like it from the original LaserDisc to the Amiga versions, PC CD-ROM, DVD and now HD DVD and Blu-Ray versions, I have finished it Blindfolded... Yeah. BLINDFOLDED.

  • Hey

    You are cool.

    Very nice performed...

greets from austria. an big DL Fan..

  • Dragon's Lair was a fave game of mine as an arcade machine in the 80's. And I owned an Amstrad with the Amstrad conversion of it.

You are absolutely correct about the gameplay on the Amstrad. I think that's one of the games that wound up having its casette tape thrown across the room in a fit of rage. That's the other thing you don't get with emulation: A 5-15 minute loading time.

  • This review rocks, man. Your commentary is fucking hilarious. No offense, but it sounds like a cross between William Hung and Arnold Schwartznegger narrating this film. Where are you from?

    Keep up the good work.

  • i can't believe they even tried to make a console version of those brilliant arcade games so early x-x

  • the amstrad one was the hardestthing ever

  • Love your accent :D

  • I agree with what some others have said... you're criticizing games for how badly their emulator roms play. I've never played all the ones you reviewed here; but I used to own the SegaCD one, and had no problems with the controls; in fact I quite enjoyed this game.

  • Also, do some research. This game was originally released as an arcade game, based off of a laserdisc. This allowed for much higher quality video than even what was on the SegaCD.

How can you even do a review on a game when you don't even know anything about the system it is on. The Amstrad CPC was an 8 bit pc originally released in 1984.

Watch some real videos based on the laserdisc game.

  • Watch closely, I did not bash the systems themselves, it's the game. I didn't knew of the Arcade version back then, you're right there. But that ashames these games even more if you ask me. Anyway, thanks for backfeeding.

  • I realize you weren't bashing the systems. I just noticed some misinformation, and lack of research. And controls on an emulator are not necessarily indicative of true gameplay.

  • I hate the fact that you are giving bad reviews partially based on unresponsive controls when you are using an emulator. An emulator often is not accurate enough for reviews. There is often a lag time for controls, or bugs in the roms. Even if there aren't those problems, there is a massive difference between playing on a keyboard, or computer gamepad and playing on the controller the programmers had in mind for their controls when creating the game.

  • I've heard several opinions and hints now on that control problem with the CD Version. Maybe I should give it a retry in the near future.

  • About the Sega CD one, there are no problems or anything, nothing wrong with the emulator. It's just that they made the timing in the game PERFECT. If you don't press the right button at the exact time, you die. Unlike other version like the gameboy color one, where you can press the button early and it will except it. That's why the sega cd one is so damn hard.

  • It was great to see one of the reviewers I like cover an Amstrad game. Yeah those green things do look like kangaroos hehe. The Amstrad by the way is an old computer like the Commodore 64 or Sinclair Spectrum.

  • Emulator lag that's totally random.

Means sometimes you'll get it right, and sometimes you'll never win. This is why you have save states!

  • is this dude in group x? lolz

  • This is strange the guy who did the reviews, looks like he never played the arcade original, the sega cd version is a conversion of that, you only either choose a direction or press the fire button. Thats all but thats what you do on the arcade version.

  • the sega cd version is the closet version to the arcade of this 3

  • Wow I love this video. There is no way I would have watched that entire video unless you had the great commentary. Good job.

  • by the way..i noticed if u try this on an emulator , some kind on lag in the controls make this game a little frustrating..its that ur problem playing this???

  • then i can see in the movie, u can figure out waths next!! the tentacules sucked the characters all the time!! so to make this movie continue, wich action the character gotta do? ...maybe... climb up?? yes!! an thats it!! just press up once..and just once. or u crew it with too much indications, thast all!! this game its not bad..its just an interactive moviewith no indications because its suposed u must figured them.

  • like u said bpbrother sega cd/mega cd DRAGON'S LAIRthis is like movie..so u just need to press the buttoms according with the action the character needs to make the movie continue. by example... in the beggining secuence when the character falls and the tnetacules coming up, just press sowrd(buttom b) once, and the character can defend himself...

  • lol.. bpbrother like u said Sega cd/ Mega cd Dragon's Lair is a different concept, like a movie. Well thtas is right!, so to play this game all u wanna need.. its think that.. wich action this character need to do to make the movie continue?? and thats it!! example: in the first secuence when the bridge broke and the charcter falls, then the tentacules coming press sword (b buttom) once!! so the character can defend himself....

  • The Sega CD version of it is just a grainy version of the original real version. Also, no, you just sucked, the bridge is the easist thing in the world to get through on even a child's first play. It was and is a playable movie that took arcades by storm in the 80's. If you don't like it, fine, but don't crit on stuff just because you suck at it.

  • the border between being good or bad at a game may not be determined by barely working controls - I sure sucked but if you can't beat the first sequence within 20 minutes (I seriously tried before making video footage). I assumeyou played the game and find it fairly easy, well... I don't think so. Nevertheless I'm sure that these games also have their consumers and legal existance

Some day if I ever manage to beat it I might add a new video :)

  • Just one thing I've noticed - all the games have the character walking, moving like a MORON. The developers are fucking idiots. Fuck the whole franchise.

  • that accent is fukin annoying, he sounds like the Rocky Horror Picture Show

  • Dude, not everyone speaks perfect English so you got to think about that before you bust someone on their accent. Its just fucked up to comment on his video to say THAT! He did a damn fine job commenting on the video. Plus, I like the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
