Now I understand why Sweden scored only 52 points on the big night. The juries cast their votes based on the dress rehearsal...which was this one. So Py Bäckman received 52 points - not Tommy Körberg. He would probably have won it all...

@woodlandguy76 Actually back in 1988 juries were able to vote on the big night itself, so the juries normally voted on Tommy Körberg's performance. It's not like nowadays, where the juries vote on the final evening dress rehearsal.

Wow! I remember reading in the Swedish papers that year that Py Bäckman had to step in as a performer because of Tommy Körberg's sore throat, but I never thought I would ever see it! Thank you! :)

Py Bäckman competed in melodifestivalen (the Swedish heats for Eurovision) on her own term in 1979, 1992 - and yesterday 2010 :-)

The host says "Stad i lus" = City of louse, when he should say "Stad i ljus" = City of light. And he also says "Pi Beckman" when he should say "Py Bäckman"
