nobody won that CONFLICT. approximately a year after we signed an armistice similar to the Korean Conflict, the Communists as they do many times, purposely violated the treaty and stormed South Vietnam thus achieving their goal. This only happened because we let South Vietnam handle the war by themselves.

I don't deny the fact that the chinese government now is not one of the best throughout chinese history, and I don't want to sound naively defensive about the commuinist regime, though I give them credit for piecing the country together after crumbling into chaos under Western invasion and Japan. Well, let's see, millions of Chinese communist soldiers died DEFENDING the country from Japanese INVASION. As far as I know, Japan shoved people out of their homes and killed them in China. You can go check the history. China is a semi communists country with a full market economy that's booming (Give them credit for that). we obliterated japan and their currency is a remnant of that, (ex. 100 Yen to 1 dollar, etc. but their economy is strong so it doesnt matter). Anyhow Japan was in the same situation as China, except they did it the smart way and accepted personal freedom whereas communist insurgents in China fought off the republic and promised "bread, peace, and freedom" (Lenin said it but Mao would have too for propaganda) which obviously was bullshit. Japan is great now because of American influence.

The protests at Tiananmen wasn't as simple as you were told, b/c rival countries supported it and tried to use it to create a mass, again, China was trying to not have chaos in the newly formed nation just like US in that rebellion. However, whether China overdid it or mishandled it was another story. It tried what it could. I don't really like the lack of transparency of the chinese government but I disagree with people that belittle it blindly either. It's a great country in infancy

I have lots of friends back in China, and provided my 13 yrs of living there and frequent going back and forth between China and US, my answer is, it's FAR from a totalitarian government, or market economy won't exist. It's not even pure communist there anymore, lives are not bad there and I'm going back again in a few months b/c it's booming. Certainly there are negative things Chinese government did and the style of the governing might not be in line with your liking. But there are good things they did as well. I'm sure there are ugly things America did as well througout its 200+ year history. To ring a bell: Shay's Rebellion (Where government sent troops to oppress it); Slavery (Which China never done); Westward Expansion at the expense of war; Watergate Scandal etc.

1st of all, I went to Middle school, high school, and currently college at US so I'm seeing things from both sides. Yes US was brand new, so is China in a sense. The current government is just 60 yr old and before that China was in much of a feudal society. Tian'anmen's oppression happenned 35 yrs after communist took control in China. Westward expansion IS relevant b/c it showed that US was an expansionist for taking Texas from Mexico and watergate showed US gov can too be evil

k let me just add that shay's rebellion was not a massacre. we simply sent troops to deter the mad citizens from causing unrest. The rebellion was caused because a bunch of farmers were upset about taxes, whereas in China, the people wanted the right to live freely where they could type whatever they wanted into google and get results.(lol) Plus the rebellion consisted of armed personnel with firearms, while in Tiananmen, they were just unarmed students requesting the right to live freely.

Shay's rebellion wasn't a massacre but the nature of it was the same. Farmers was outraged b/c Washington and Hamilton wanted a centralized gov and feared state power, and remember "democracy" to founding fathers is "mob rule" in oppose to the democracy people prefer today and they tried to limit that as much as possible by ripping states of its powers.

Well I don't know whether history classes here are inconsistent in content but I was taught (here) Whiskey tax by Hamilton to raise taxes for federal gov is one of the major state vs fed government conflict between Jefferson and Hamilton and Jefferson renounced Hamilton for securing fed power at the expanse of having its own citizen at gun point. But I do agree to end this debate for we'll never persuade one another. Like i stated, I'm just arguing from both perspectives, but I love my country.
