Yeah, I eventually set it up that way. It's working great... it can get messy.
The best way to get more ink into the cartridges once it starts running low is to hold up the ink base to let the ink move down the tube and into the cartridges. Then, set it back at ground level. Perform a head clean, and it will work again!

I think it is supposed to go under the bridge and come out to the right of the printer rather than the left
