  • Dino's great, but this is Frank's greatest song...

  • Poor Craig Boone. :(

  • @ten4seven LOL what a masterful description that expresses the differences of the two !!! Yeah i lean more to Ol' Blue Eyes, I agree.

  • Where can i find this song?...it's not on itunes

  • i was born in the wrong era,the 40`s 50`s and early 60`s had style, people where nice and dressed up and had virtues,nowadays.......

  • @ww2berry Agreed.I was suppoesd to be born in the 40's to experience these awesome times...

  • @alttab7890 yeah, its a shame that i can`t turn time,otherwise......maybe we could visit these times together [ as we both love this era]grz from the netherlands...

  • @ww2berry Ofcourse, the less said the better about today. Listen to the music and that tells you how badly we have descended into crassness. People grumble about those eras as being racist. What those idiots do not realise is that people had a lot more class in those days and had morals too. If they say that today's world is better, then they need to see a doctor. I wish good old days like this come back. About dressing up, see how people dress at church. They seem to ba at the beach.

  • @calihartley2010 yep,no moral today,or common courtesy,just me,me and me-culture

  • I truly love Dean Martin, he´s fantastic! But to be honest i really prefer Sinatras version.

  • @Roni404 i normaly prefer Dinos voice to sinatras but i do prefer sinatras version of this song

  • What a song. What an era . What a guy.

  • lol he's so wasted HAHA

  • i love dean growing up in the 21st century sucks government is crooked

  • @1234clydey "21st century sucks" Amen, brother.

  • Og music videos

  • o i LOVE dino's voice!!!! RIP <3

  • Thanks for this ... My mother loved Dino and this video reminds me of her.

  • Anyone know who the bar tender is ??? He plays the part well

  • @carlmonico The bartender is Mack Gray.

  • @sally1715 Thanks, I have seen him in a few other Deans clips, and i think he is kind of a cool guy.

  • @sally1715 Yes, that's Mack Gray, Dean's longtime pal for over 35 years. They were practically inseparable, like brothers. Only one who stuck with Dean when the team of M & L broke up. Up or down, thin or flush, a true friend to Dean.

  • Amazing song AND Fallout new vegas quest :D

  • i reckon that if this song were to be written for anyone, rather than fred, it should've been Dean.. the worlds best drunken entertainer singing about love and heart ache... as a drunkard

  • When I first saw that dean Martin sang this song as well I had my doubts, but I gotta say dean Martin does a good job as well as Frank Sinatra

  • they shoulda put this song in fallout. and gutiar hero ;)

  • Even when he sings a sad song...he seems to look cool and everything is ok....

  • what a warm voice!!!

  • i love his voice, but i do think frank does a better rendition of this song.

  • Thats Vancouver B.C Canada...incase you didnt kno ;)

  • awwww...my baby made it 69 likes...how bout one for the road Dean....and for the 5 people that dislike this song...come to 1188 Howe st and buzz 135...come up to apt 1901 and knock...state your business...and ima beat you so bad your great grand children feel it.

  • @Isablader Hahahahahahaha!!!

I rate that you back your comments with you address and an open invitation to duke it out.

  • aaaaauuuuuu...to je to

  • I don't think its fair to Dean to label him as a drunk. Granted he did make it a part of his act. But Dean was much more than that. He was a great singer and surrounded himself with some of the most talented people in music and show business. He made mistakes like saying the Rolling Stones had low foreheads. Overall, he was a great singer and musician and it had nothing to do with alcohol abuse.

  • anybody know who is playing the part of joe ?

  • @carlmonico - I think that is Mack Gray.

  • if all drunks were as talented as he was i love him and the looks he had sexy man he was

  • Bartender = G

    Dean = Dr. G

    Great video, thanks Lady Knight.

  • what fucking year is this?

  • i Love Dean as much as anybody....but this particular song and arrangement just dont do it for me....its seems to brassy and big for a slow and intimate song....he should have taken it down a good bit...i still love you Dino....your TV work was the greatest.....and i liked many of your movies....your voice was great and always will be....

  • Can't figure out why anybody would "dislike" Dino. BUT I 'spose that's what makes the world go 'round, our differences. Dino, there's got to be one hell of a Band in Heaven, and I know you're pipin' 'em sweet, just like you did when you were with us. See Yas On The Flip Side, Smooth One.

    >^,,^<

  • My god, what a voice, what a song..... Was looking for it on mp3 but apparently he never recorded it, what a shame...

  • That's bs he wasn't a homo. Your nuts he was all man. Know your history pal.

  • @Hammersley1967 Huh?

  • @Hammersley1967 Wut.

  • I love Dean Martin and I'm only 2 and a 1/2 years old!

  • Check out my cover of One For My Baby at my channel! :)

  • @JsOfSweden send it to me

  • When your heart is broken and you feel so down,,,,, and it's so empty without her.....she's gone from your life, nothing just nothing but heartbreak, then these lyrics need to be sung WITHOUT smiling and looking happy, otherwise it's not convincing. The lyric writer new what love is.

  • "These aren't cufflinks, they're curb feelers."

Missya, Deano, nobody can fill your shoes or sit on your barstool, all the cool is gone.

  • Dean Martin hardly ever drank, it was all an act, but whaddan act! Miss you Deano!

  • Take a lok at Frankie Laine's version of this.

  • Frank's version is great, but this one kickasses!

  • captivating

  • How cool was he? Elvis thought he defined cool, and modeled himself in some ways, after him, that's how cool.

Great performance, and watch it again, kids: I do believe that this was live TV, in front of an audience, with a big band, including a string section, in the pit, and perfect audio mixing, for a performance that had to be flawless, in a medium of NO SECOND CHANCES.

  • Mmmmm...

  • Yeah, I know what he's got...I heard about it...kinda rare but you know it when you hear it. Ah, yeah it's COOL!!

  • afterthought on last comment: it's doubly reassuring to see 14-18s posting here. If this music is going to survive as anything more than a museum piece, like a Model T Ford, we need as many of them listening to it as we can get. And not just listening - playing, imitating, incorporating into new songs all this wealth of talent. "To you from failing hands we throw / The torch; be yours to hold it high"

And Dean Martin singing Johnny Mercer? That's a year at Juliard so far as I'm concerned.

  • @zolevokpk I know what your saying - but I find it reassuring when they do! I was *desperately* unpopular as a teenager with hundreds of 78s when Kurt Cobain and Vanilla Ice (who they?) were all the rage. It sure didn't make you cool... And while I can't say my popularity has improved (mid-30s),

    A/I got a helluva a musical heritage for not succumbing to peer pressure;

B/I'm in a few jazz bands and lots of 14-18 have to look up what I take for granted. Don't discourage them whippersnappers!

  • For all his flaws, and he had many of them, he might have been the most charming and charismatic performer in the history of show business

  • for the kids. im happy that you listen to good music but music is not for making you cooler so you dont have to write your 14-18 age there.

  • Yeah Dan !!!

  • GREAT!!!

  • i love this version but i also love Robbie Williams singing and Max Beesley on piano as a cover for his swing album, i think he did sinatra and dean justice!

  • The king of cool.

  • gotta lov the Dean!

  • I liked it when he sticks the cigarette in his mouth; I can hear the cigarette distorting his sound…Great stuff!

  • Great rendition, and nice footage accompanying it too. Where's this from?

  • Relaxing, Isn't it?

  • the bartender isn't Johnny Mercer, it's Mack Grey, who first worked for George Raft, then worked Dean.

  • i love dino but sinatra does this way better though. sorry dino

  • i thgink the bartender is johnny mercer, the man who wrote the lyrics to this song (a heavy drinker himself, by the way)

  • Really!! That's pretty intreresting. You a musician or swing afficionado. This is one of my favorite songs-Dino and Astaire's versions both cause I been in the bar at 2am feeling sorry for myself, on several continents!

  • I love this song, too, especially Dino's version because everything that Dino has done has been top :)

I know exactly how you feel. And I don't envy you 'feeling' this song on 'several continents'...

  • Nothing like the good old days. Siting back, relaxing, and watching goos old Dino.

  • Dino was the man!!!!!!

  • That, he certainly was. ;)

    *Sigh. =)

  • That, he certainly was ;).

    *Sigh =)

  • So much better, classier and talented than Frank!

  • Thanks for posting this.

    Great version from Dino.

Used to hear it with Frank.

  • This guy was too cool to get down over a broad...

  • Wonderful rendition of this classic song. THANKS a lot for sharing it with us! Frank & Dino were such awesome saloon singers. Smooth, classy & cool! I hope you have your HAPPIEST holiday season ever!

  • Johnny Mercer's version is pretty good too.

  • check out my buddy geoff gartner, he does a truly moving rendition of this classic

  • sining like hell with a cig. in his mouth and still sounds aweaome he was so cool

  • Sinatra voice is so small comparing with Dean's.

    That is the whole truth.

  • i agree.compare em and it sounds crap.Dean was awesome in so many ways...

  • bobby4255212 has a great version of this song on youtube, performed by Frank Sinatra. Check it out and compare the two versions...Dean is great. but Sinatra knew the true meaning and feel of the song!

  • I've always loved this song. Many talented performers have covered it. Even though the Sinatra version is my favorite, the late great Dino Martin does a very nice version here. This is the first time I've seen this footage....thanks so very much for sharing it with us! :)

  • The thing is, we learn ("learn", being the operative word here...!!), and when it came to the'blues' Dean hadn't done a LOT of it - just think of the style of his early recordings ( eg, "Till Then" - 1946) and then fifties then, in sixties, he does "Baby, won't you please come home"! You want "blues?!! Click on it, (the one with the picture of him and Jerry (not the other one ) - oh, boy.....that's the "blues" -as it SHOULD be done..tell me what you think!!!

  • Think you are right, he was a happy go lucky guy, and that always came out in his music in the early days. He sure could have sung the blues in his later life, what with 2 more divorces and losing his son.

  • U nailed it. Emotion makes such a huge difference from one vocalist to another. you can tell who's lived in the moment and who's just saying the words. check out my bro geoff gartner for a truly moving rendition

  • Dean

    I just love your voice!!

    That's Talent!!!

  • The smoothest drunk that ever lived.

  • Indeed ! Amy Winehouse could learn a thing or two from him on how to do it right ! Hmmm would love to hear how she'd do this song !

  • He wasn't a drunk, it was just a self-selected "trademark"!! Think about it.....do you think a drunk could have the success, and career-span (40 years...!!) that Dean had, if that was true??!!!

  • @Entropy56 you are so right a classy guy always

  • @Entropy56 from most sources, he was only a "drunk" in image, he didn't have a drinking problem that was just an image he played. He obviously had a smoking problem.

  • @Entropy56 Very true! Dean Martin drank with style...

  • @Entropy56 I read or heard somewhere that the "smooth" Cocktailing-25%-sloshed persona was an act. When he has his TV series he'd hold a glass of something but it wasn't alcohol -- just his way of looking relaxed and like he's having fun. In our era there's less tolerance for drinking sometimes: it might not "go over" as well...

  • @bluecollarlit I new them all, Frank, Dean, Sam, Joey. You're right, Dean drank apple juice when on stage. When the gang sang the last song the other boys would stay up all night drinking......But, Dean would go to his hotel room immediately and read a book. Oh, he could drink as well as the others, but not as much or as long into the night. He loved to sing and loved to play golf. I'd see many of them at the Pebble Beach Course. Dean, Eastwood, etc. were always very good to me. Love ya!

  • @Entropy56 hewas noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo drunk

  • @Entropy56

    And the coolest ...

  • Frank's Version was always number one with me, but after playing this a few times.

This IS Dean's Song! Did he ever put this on vinal?

  • No, but he should have. Especially, after he and Jeanne separated and had such a heartbreak with Kathy.

  • he could even sing with that silky voice of his while lightin a cigarette. ..love ya Dino!

Beautiful. 5 and faved tks =)

  • Dean was and still is the best! I'm only 14, but I love him til my death! I can't get enough of his smooth voice! :).

  • welcome to the club! Im just a throwback, but I wish I had lived in that time. I swear i should have been born 60 years ago

  • Im in the same boat Shawty, I'm about to turn 18 but i've liked artists like him since i was your age. Check out my videos, I sing classic songs in Talent shows and local Classy Clubhouses like the Swan Pt Clubhouse. I only have my first performance on video so far but im singing at the club in 2 weeks and will besure to record it. Till then people PLEASE CHECK MY PROFILE TO WATCH MY VIDEO. RATE/COMMENT aswell.

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007

Its good to know that the young still have taste.

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007 Who cares how old you are?

  • @revolution55125 asshole

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007 im 15 and feel the exact same way!

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007 same here just 14 and i love Dean martin's work

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007 ha im 15 and im the same

  • @ShawtyLikeMe2007 That's good man that will help you later down the with life

  • Dino è una bella cantante! Amore lui!

  • its sad how legends die and we get left idiots:'{ i love this music forever. r.i.p dean martin and frank sinatra they will bless us each day, even after their passings.

  • Greatest Closing Time Song, EVER!

  • I still cant believe how they try to replace guys and gals like that when they are not replaceable!!!!!!!

  • There's only one objective test for great artistry, and that is whether it survives its time. It means it has transcended mere contemporary taste and become immortal. In this sense, Dean Martin has passed the test, as his music is still listened to. This means others whom I don't particularly like, such as The Beatles and Rolling Stones (Ray Charles surpassed them both!) have passed the test as well. The fact we're debating this is proof enough - another artist would merely be forgotten.

  • This is what i sing every night i get to heavy to walk home :P

  • aww I Love Dino!

  • Dean was always casual. I generally like him better when when he was casual/serious as he is here rather than casual/silly as he tended to be later in his career. He had a really pleasing tone and excellent timing. Check out Frankie Laine's surprisingly good version of this song on You-tube.

  • "The amusing thing about Dino here: with that smile on his face throughout, he looks like he prefers being in the bar to being back with his baby."

That's the thing about Dean- I love him, but he can't tell a fun song from a sad one. He smiles through all of them!

  • I understand what you mean. But 'don't look at him' and you get the feeling for it :)

Soon as I listen to this song on my mp3-player it's one of the saddest torch songs ever.

  • My neighbor's brother who also happens to be my second cousin served in World War 2. And in the barracks, Dino slept in the bed right next to him. My cousin says he didn't have that perfect nose back then. HAHA!!!! But in my humble opinion, he was better than Frank. He had more style and, I think, more talent. Miss ya Dean.

  • Talk about an OLIVE OIL VOICE,...

  • that man is a dead set legand :)

  • The amusing thing about Dino here: with that smile on his face throughout, he looks like he prefers being in the bar to being back with his baby. Great version just the same--he makes it his own.

  • Very uomo!!!

  • The absolute original version of this song is by Fred Astaire - part of a dance number where Fred throws a barstool into a mirror.

  • The Main Man!

How could you not love him?

  • i love this man

  • Dean was the Man!

  • he sings it way better that Sinatra

    and it fits him better

  • What a scene.....bar room setting......cigarette smoke swirling in the background, Dino crooning with that deep and husky voice - he was indeed the real deal.

  • The bartender is Mack "KIller: Gray. I found a photo of Mack and Dean together. THey were longtime buddies

  • "So make it one for my Baby

    One more for the road."

    his words...

  • Style and class says it all!!!!

  • GO-JUSSS! lovely. 5*****

  • singing on key with a cig in his mouth...ladies and gentlemen, the king of cool.

  • you just say it....

  • I'm not sure but i Think the bartender is song writer Hoagy Carmichael. Can any one verify that? He may have wrote this tune.

  • This was written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer.

I couldn't place the bartender, though, sorry.

  • Hey SamDino, I agree, and I AM A PREJUDICED DINO FAN He is way better than FRANK always was> LOL

But seriously, later on near the end of his life, I think he could have sung this to JEANNE, and meant it with all his heart, his really true love.

  • no way in hell does Dean get hurt about losing a girl. Still sung better than any version i have heard.

  • Dean was waaaay to cool to get broke up or down over losing a woman!

  • On THAT note, All Hail the King of Cool!

  • I've heard his version, Frank's, and Sammy's live, impression-filled performance. I've got to say, with all due respect to Deano, I prefer the other cats' versions.

  • Happy? um do you know that the original included a tapdance part? I think this is the best version perhaps as a dino fan i'm not objective enough but i always found his voice much more sentimentally than sinatras for example.

  • The coolest cat! just need Sammy and Frank and you have a perfect evening. Love you Deano X

  • Gotta love Dino, forever cool, man, forever cool...

was Billie's version the original? I don't even know... =]

  • I've been coming back to this video on and off again for months now....the way he phrases the "for my baby" just KILLS. I still can't get over that...such a natural effortless voice from a natural talent.

  • I adore Dean's music but this is a very sad song and should be sung sadly like Sinatra did it so marvelous.

  • man i love billie and sinatras versions but no one can sing it cooler then Dino.

He was the coolest man ever walked in this planet!!!

  • does any one know were i can get dino on cd singing one for my baby ? im in the uk by the way ? i need it for a funerall.

  • I know it's a late response, but I think I must disappoint you... I've been looking for a recorded version, too, but I haven't found it.

  • I have the recorded version... well maybe not, enjoy!

    SPREAD DEAN LOVE!

  • Dino the charme that he had.
