How comes that the "E Phrygian scale" and "G Mixolydian Scale" is the very same scale...?

@WillyTheGuitarFreak Mixolydian and Phrygian arnt the same scale, every major mode is the major scale starting on a different step, so in your case, E phrygian is the 3rd step, and G Mixolydian is the 5th step, so the reason they look the same to you, is you have looked at each scale, within the same key, (in the case C major). So E phygian has the same notes as G Mixolydian. Just as D dorian has the same notes as C major . If you played G Mixolydian then G Phyrgian they would sound different.

@Podarias because it's the phyrgian mode of the harmonic minor scale, so the sharpened 7th degree translates into a sharpened 3rd, so a major 3rd instead of a minor 3rd

@Podarias Not exactly... Look up Phrygian Dominant - you end up with a Major 3rd in there. It's one of the Harmonic Minor modes, not your usual modes of the Major scale :)

What im trying to say is that its correct in that it literally is a phrygian scale with a major third so it seems logical to call it phrygian dominant, but MY point is that, that name doesnt reflect the function of the chord.

Do you study classical harmony?

If so its different as im studying jazz harmony. Id say we should leave it because each style views it differently, i dont want a big argument.
