@mikel1982 No. The debt increased under Clinton every single year. What was substantially reduced were the deficits not the debt. When they talked of surplus, you have to remember it was a surplus based on a baseline of the previous years deficit. In 2000 we had the smallest deficit in 30 years at only about 18 billion dollars. This was not due to Clinton's tax hikes. It was due to a soaring tech economy and the advent of the internet and the fact that there were zero major wars under Clinton.
@babajacob Thanks for the clarification but if he was running a surplus, where did that surplus money go? Shouldn't be applied to the debt? Is there a record of where this money went? Also I disagree with tax hikes not helping out the deficit. Taxes are the government's biggest source of revenue. So raising taxes along with a booming economy exponentially raised revenue when combined. The lack of spending on war also contributed greatly.
@mikel1982 The main reason that our deficit fell dramatically in the late '90s is that we replaced a lot of old, very high-interest debt from the '70s and early '80s, with much lower interest debt. Even though the amount of debt was still increasing, the overall interest payments were reduced. When it is all replaced, our interest payments will begin to rise, reflecting the rising interest we are paying on new debt. When that happens, the deficit will rise even faster than it has been rising.

I wish Paul had answered the funding question a bit more directly. I know that he has explained before that there are many other forms of federal income that are more than enough to cover what the govt *should* be doing, but not everyone has seen those interviews. If I were part of a social group who didn't already know what RP stood for, I'd think he was avoiding the question. To the get the votes we need to put RP into office, we need to make sure that these questions get clear answers.
Clint Richardson will be coming out with a video about the Fed. I am predicting it will be a documentary about the CAFR of the Fed (which Ron Paul doesn't talk about) and I am predicting that after people watch the video, they will be asking Ron Paul why he never talks about the CAFR of the Fed.

Both have ties to the Fed. The Fed very recently bailed out with our tax dollars foreign countries, and gave a sh!@#$ of money to State Sponsored Terror countries like Libya (people who want to kill us).

I wish Paul had answered the funding question a bit more directly. I know that he has explained before that there are many other forms of federal income that are more than enough to cover what the govt *should* be doing, but not everyone has seen those interviews. If I were part of a social group who didn't already know what RP stood for, I'd think he was avoiding the question. To the get the votes we need to put RP into office, we need to make sure that these questions get clear answers.
