It was the beginning of the end for old skool CITV when they went out-vision. But still, given today's non-choice for kids, I'd welcome it back with open arms.
god, there was so much stuff i loved on CITV. It was amazing for cartoons, tiny toons, animaniacs, reboot and dream stone. bad influence and knightmare were well mint too.
They were the days :) makes me want to be 9 again.
Steve Ryde was a great announcer and if you look carefully you'll see him in the Rolf's cartoon club trail dressed up in a suit, and hat and glasses! He went on to be a producer of Dick and Dom's Da Bungalow (hell knows why those two are crap!) and The Slammer and was in Palace Hill as Jimmy and Wizadora as Tatty Bogle.
@SergioGeorginiJacket I weren't too keen on it myself but after about a year I got use to it as I saw this as a proper cut back although I was 5 at the time.
citv was such a fail, it was all about cbbc, i never used to watch citv, just thought it was really boring lol. only remember ZAP and Bernards watch, and thats it. Born in 1993 by the way.
That's true! C5 was talked about FOREVER and when it finally came it was just underwhelming... It took the channel about 5-6 years to find it's feet because all it all when it started was old-ass American repeats, Early Prisoner Cell Block H eps and Porno! Almost like Channel 4 when it started out, only worse.
Why have you disabled embedding, you've done it for all of your videos! If you don't want your videos appearing embedding in other websites, then I strongly suggest you don't upload them here at all!
yeah I liked Glenn Kinsey. Tommy and Glenn where both decent presenters and didnt patronise or feel the need to do 'wacky' voices to introduce the shows.
I'm hoping that they release the DVDs they've bought out in America over here, but I'm not holding my breath. Same goes for Animaniacs and Pinky and The Brain. It's really frustrating when a DVD you want comes out in another country, but not here.
@2001JamesTV Well this will tick you off even more. At the moment Warner Bros. seem to be putting old cartoon shows on hold at the moment. From what I've heard the Steven Spielberg (or rather the Tom Ruegger) cartoons haven't been fully released in the States yet. There's still many old Hanna Barbera shows they haven't distributed yet. There's no news at the moment when they will. It's the same with the old Disney shows and there distribution.
The Home & Away episode is actually what was being recorded, and the whole episode is on the tape. It's wasn't my tape though, and I've given it back to who it belongs to.
Re: Your comment about Thomas the Tank Engine - CITV wouldn't have started with Scooby Doo, so I think the tape at that point picks up after Thomas the Tank Engine and its following commercial break.
So whoever taped the video recorded the announcement, paused recording, then resumed after Thomas the Tank Engine and the adverts.
It doesn't start with Scooby Doo- as you can see it starts with Porky Pig. There's definatly no break in the recording on the original tape between the announcement and the start of CITV.
All I ever taped myself (in terms of CBBC/CITV stuff) that I still have is the CBBC stuff I uploaded a couple of weeks ago. I always wish I'd taped more, but it's not something I'd thought about at the time.
It was the VCR my grandparents used to have- whenever you started a new recording it would do that around 10 seconds after it started. You can hear it on the TV-am closedown clip as well.
It was a strange VCR anyway, it was massive and had loads of buttons, knobs and inputs none of us really knew how to use.
Fair enough point there, as it can be quite tedious going through old tapes - but then it can also be quite rewarding when you find some great clips etc. Anyway, there's been some good videos from you so far, so hopefully there will be some more from you in the future sometime!...
The most interesting stuff I found was when I went through my aunt's tapes about 6 or 7 years back. When she moved about 18 months ago though, she threw about half of them away, so I don't know what she still has and what she got rid of. Though I do know she used to have a Betamax recorder, though that along with the tapes are long gone now- they'd have been really interesting to go through.
It was the beginning of the end for old skool CITV when they went out-vision. But still, given today's non-choice for kids, I'd welcome it back with open arms.

Yeah, It was insanely popular over here. The Comic was a reasonably good seller too. The last time CITV played it was Christmas '98!

It was on ITV until from 1989 until 2000. Channel 5 didn't even exist at this point in time!

@2001JamesTV It did from April 1997.

What's wrong with having them disabled? They're his uploads, and clearly he doesn't want people nicking them.
jaychristie909 2 years ago
Yeah, you do have a point there. Still, just because he has embedding disabled, I think all of the clips are worth spending my time watching. :)

So was Tiny Toons really one of CITV's most popular programmes? I didn't think it was THAT big back then.

I hated when they went to voice overs only, I think I stopped watching CITV when this guy took over. Tommy boyd was much better
