As good as this is, I,ve fished from Linton through Hebden, Burnsall and Bolton Abbey and used the traditional method of Across and Down for 50 years or more with Spider Pattern flys...sure I,ve drawn blank, but I,ve had some excellent days well into double figures.
I have had a lot of success fishing across and down, funnily enough on the Wharfe lower downstream. It amazes me how I can catch using this method but it does work!
I have no doubt that this guys method is better, however!
I too have caught trout on the across and down swing method but what Mr. Edwards is saying is that the across and down is not a normal manner for insects to travel in the warter column. Casting up and across, with good line management, will put far more fishh on the hook than swinging the fly across and down.
sorry oliver but i have to disagree with you your videos are spot on and there is plenty to learn but i agree with wolvie450 every one used that method before they knew better and caught many a trout
As cast ends, current drags flies into the bank. Full DVD is over 100 mins go to essential-skills.tv to get a copy. UK and US TV format available
